VSL Performance Tools

Are the VSL performance tools locked into use with VSL. Would one be able to apply them to alternate samples? I\'d like to get to work on my kazoo library and want to know if I should record all the intervals.

I asked the guy who demonstrated the lib at NAMM about this, and according to him, the performance tool is a freestanding program that could be programmed for by other developers.
