Want some dramatic strings, get Kirk Hunter. *shiver* I\'ve just about used all sustains for that.

I agree with everything Sharmy said.
Even using more SI up to about a week or so ago. They just \"work\" really well, but I still hit GOS for certain articulations and when SI doesn\'t fit.
The reason I say a week or so ago, is because I\'m working on a GOS update so obviously there\'s been a lot of GOS usage images/icons/smile.gif
BTW SI still has my favorite sul ponti string sound. And my favorite bass section sound. GOS has the primo Violin sound in the GR detache\'s, and possibly another great sustain sound in the updates I\'m doing (it\'ll be up to the users to decide that)
I\'m awaiting VSL and QLSO to see. IMO I think VSL will be the best choice since you can buy just the strings package and it will come with a bunch of features that neither SI or GOS will have. Still we\'ll ahve to wait and see.
If I had to choose betweeen SI and GOS and had to buy this moment. I\'d buy SI. that *might* change with the next GOS update.

The beauty of this library (apart from Prof. Keith O. Johnson\'s recording) is it\'s cohesive, dynamic sound, since all of the instruments and sections were recorded in the same large concert hall.
As someone else said in this forum previously, that is familiar with Keith\'s recordings - they are like \"champagne for the ears\"!
Btw, any serious composers that wish to preview the library at the 2003 NAMM convention (January 16-19), please contact me privately to make arrangements.
Take care,
Doug Rogers

JW.<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Yes!!
Here is some info about Keith -
\"Prof.\" Keith O. Johnson is a true audio legend, having designed and patented many innovative products in the professional and consumer fields. His sound comes from his singular methods and equipment, hand-built or extensively modified by him.
\"Prof.\" Keith Johnson has spent over 30 years developing a reputation for innovative thinking, technical achievement and musicianship which has elevated him to a position in the audio industry occupied by only a handful of visionaries. His intensive investigation of electronic behavior and acoustic perception have led most recently to his development (with digital engineer Michael Pflaumer) of the revolutionary High Definition Compatible Digital encoding process, produced and marketed by Pacific Microsonics (recently acquired by Microsoft). HDCD is widely considered to be the most accurate recording process ever invented.
His 90-plus recordings have long been considered the standard for high fidelity, and include two GRAMMY award-winners and eight additional GRAMMY nominations.
Here are some reviews of his recordings -
\"Its sonic quality is most impressive in stereo spread, depth, presence, and resolution of detail, with rock-solid image stability, in a spacious ambiance -- a demonstration-quality recording if there ever was one.\" --McKelvey, AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE
\"This may be some of the best sound Keith Johnson has ever gotten out of Symphony Hall in Minneapolis, and certainly Oue\'s most convincing work with the Minnesota players, who sound for all the world more like the Philadelphia than that orchestra does these days . . . how Johnson got that huge climax at the end of the Dances cleanly onto tape transcends engineering and goes into the realm of magic.\" -- Harry Pearson, TAS
\"Once again, Keith Johnson has raised the bar of excellence in the recording of a symphony orchestra. . . It\'s a fabulous recording and a super performance of the SYMPHONIC DANCES, and a testament to the brilliance of Keith Johnson and his associates.\" -- Anthony Kershaw, Audiophilia.com
\"Keith Johnson\'s engineering, mastering and production have, in this case, produced the finest orchestral recording I have ever heard. It is instantly among that handful of CDs I will carry with me to audition sound systems, or that I will play to show off my own. Listening to this recording is one of those exultant musical experiences that will remind you why you got into the audiophile game in the first place.\" -- Russell Lichter, Soundstage.com
\"I recommend it highly to those who love the sound of the symphony orchestra in all its glory, and to those who love to show off what their audio systems can do when asked to reproduce first-class orchestral showpieces.\"\" - Karl Nehring, THE SENSIBLE SOUND
\"Stunning audiophile sonics...the clarity, transparency, and firm definition of individual orchestral timbres are unequaled in my listening experience.\"
-- Lawrence A. Johnson, Fanfare
\"These people really know how to record an orchestra.\" -- Richard Freed, WETA Radio
For more reviews, go to www.referencerecordings.com (\"http://www.referencerecordings.com\") and select \"new reviews\".
I still can\'t believe he agreed to do this!!!
All the best,

Hi Doug,
I have followed Prof. Keith Johnson\'s work and recordings for the last 15 years, as I was active in the high end audio industry.
It is great to see that somebody finally seems to care about the audio quality of the samples.
Congratulations, you could not have found anybody better.
JW.

I am continually impressed by the tone these strings have in a mix. I speaking particularly of the violins, here. They are fantastic, even though all the control in the world may not be there. The sound is just great. Yet another option, when listening.
