When are we going to see some new solo strings? I was hoping that something would have been out by now.

At the risk of having this perceived as a shameless plug, I\'ll make a statement...
The solo strings I\'ve been working on will most likely be ready some time mid Dec.
A couple of solo violin demos can be heard at:
www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Vivaldi.mp3 (\"http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Vivaldi.mp3\")
www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Mendl.mp3 (\"http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Mendl.mp3\")
www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Fiddlin.mp3 (\"http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Fiddlin.mp3\")
Kirk,
I really like the sound in demos....can you tell me a bit more about Vivaldi demo, how was it done. Sounds like lots of up/down bow samples, and the sound is so good. images/icons/smile.gif
Will there be a solo cello as well?
Thanks,
Alex

Alex<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Yes, Lex...there will be a solo cello as well. The up/down strokes are no big secret. It\'s just the way the samples were recorded, and how they were later programmed into the instrument.
Thanks,

Wow, beautiful demos! I guess I\'ll have to buy it! images/icons/grin.gif
Any chance that you\'ll do an EXS version? images/icons/cool.gif

I was hoping the Kirk Hunter strings would have been released this month. That was the information that I heard in prior posts.

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Not sure about an EXS version at this point. But if so, I\'ll be sure to let everyone know.
Sorry that my release of the solo strings is so late. It\'s just that with the huge push to get the brass library done, and the increase in SIZE of the brass library, I had to put the strings on the backburner. But don\'t worry.. I\'m going to be on top of it SOON, since the brass library is slated to be released (first release)by Nov 15!
Thanks!

Will it be possible to make the string sound a a little bit harder ? Cause i find the strings in the vivaldi demo a little bit weak (too soft).

With sounds this good, your shameless plug will be overlooked ; )
What will be the street price, Kirk. Thanks.

Sorry about the above posting.
It\'s sometimes difficult after a few glasses of wine!
Please keep me informed of your release date...
I\'m a great lover of the Dan Dean solo cello(the sound of it just blows my mind), but I still have to hire a real cellist.
Your mp3 samples are doing the same thing to me again with the violin...
It\'s great to have your mind BLOWN!
Perhaps that shows my age ( or the state of my anorak ) that I prefer to have my \"MIND\" blown..!
Love the demos.
Music and tech\' getting closser.

Kirk,
Thanks for posting the demos!
Would it be possible to have an insight to the different patches featured in the library? I mean which playing techniques are there and how do th euser acces them?
The vivaldi seemed nice, but its still hard not to be annoyed of the repetition of the same notes (at certain spots, not all the time of course).. How many different variations of the same articulation is there?
Thanks in advance!

However, it could be later since I have so much to do concerning the upcoming NAMM show. At any rate, I have a recording session to finish it all up next week, so after that, it\'s only programming. Don\'t worry...the solo string library is a BIG priority now that the Brass library is done.
Additionally, for those of you who have really needed the violin solo NOW, I\'ve made it available with the understanding that it\'s only the first version, and additional instrument patches and samples will be in the full version.
Thanks for all the questions and comments.

Do you have a listing of all the articulations, size, and price yet?

How do those slides work? Are they interval-based? Also, how long are the average sustains? I heard an obvious \"re-bowing\" on the last note of the 2nd demo.

Therefore, the interval is usually about a major second. The use is mainly for sliding to a targe note whether up or down.
The sustains as they exist right now, are a long single bow about 3 seconds. However, longer bowings will be added to the library soon. What you heard was not a re-bowing, but an actual repeat of the note via MIDI. The duration of each bow will vary depending on the dynamics. FF will obviously have shorter bow changes than pp.
Does that help?
Thanks,
Kirk Hunter

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">As far as the disk space....
It\'s a bit early for that kind of projection. However, I would estimate that it will be no more than 10GB. However, that could easily change. Just as an example, only a month before completing the brass library, the estimated final size was 20GB. Then when it was all done, it exceeded 30GB. The set price is 249 for the entire solo string library. If there is any price reduction, anyone who\'s already ordered the library will get the rebate, obviously.
Thanks!

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Well, I\'ve got about 17GB free on that drive, so it should fit.. If not, I work at a computer place, guess I could buy another 80GB drive and yank out a 40GB.
$249.. or less.. FANTASTIC. Seriously, you\'re gonna kill the competition with prices like that. I just wish other developers would realize that they could make the same amount of money (or more) with lower prices enabling more people to get more libraries. I know we had a discussion on this about 6-8 months ago, maybe you\'re the one that will raise (lower? ) the bar. images/icons/smile.gif

like an excellent deal, and the demos sound like exactly what I\'ve been needing for solo violin.

Kirk, the demos sound very, very promissing. Nice job!
As to the price, is it for one instrument (eg. violin) or for the set?

Thanks, Kirk! Well, the big issue about programming with giga is that the gradual filtering which should permit a smoother transition between velocities is virtually impossible to make... And I won\'t even speak about attack control, because if there wasn\'t any, it would make no difference at all...
From what I read about your library, the attack issue could be minimized through your multiple attack styles samples. I said minimized, but not solved... As for the smooth transition (gradual filtering) between a ff and f sample, for instance, which is the most sensitive zone imo, unless a miracle happens with giga 3, we would have to reprogram the whole library on another sampler to get it right. And this means months of hard work...
Does that make sense to you? I just wanted to share my thoughts and ask you if you are aware about the issues involved in refining and polishing a library like this one. Do you know if many people are actually interested in working with an enhanced version of sample banks?
By this I mean gradually filtered (tone and attack) layers which make the jumps between velocities much less obvious. And this also make same velocity notes sound different depending of the velocity value.
Anyway, we\'ll see what happens with GS 3 and if things are not fixed, I\'ll probably have to refine and program on Kontakt... I didn\'t try the latest exs-24 tho, which is supposed to be upgraded...
Thanks for reading, God bless you.

Eliam, FWIW, I have evolved a macro I call Filt82, because it applies a lowpass using CC82, which I otherwise use for nothing.
When a new lkib arrives, it takes about a minute per GIG file to add to the lib. I may tweak later, but it really quite simple.
