Please share more about your utility, I use gigastudio with cakewalk, like a few others around here. Will your utility help us? What about running under Windows 95/98?, thanks in advance for sharing.
Program work on Win98 and Win98ME with GigaStudio 160/96 and GigaSampler (any version).
- sequencer not problem
- program is not resident
- don\'t need installation/deinstallation
- programing in C++
- does not contain virus or any negative affect for your PC (YOU HAVE MY GUARANTEE FOR THIS)

- If you run GS on other computer than you don\'t need this program.
- I\'m not from NemeSys
May be in future version of GS ( I HOPE ) you will not need my program.
In hopes that gsfix will help you

What do you mean by \"not resident\"? Does it tweak the GS executable or the endless wave driver somehow?
WHEN GSFIX HELP:
- when run GS and sequencer in the same computer
- when you have trouble with timing in sequencer (tempo not precise, audio stop playing)
- when you have small polyphony
- when you have PC with mininmum Requirements for GS
CPU PIII or ATHLON>=500,600, HD (ATA 66,100), memory >=256 etc.
- when you have one sound card for GS (GSIF) and other for sequencer or
ONE MULTICLIENT CARD (GSIF,ASIO) --> http://www.nemesysmusic.com/support/hardware.html (\"http://www.nemesysmusic.com/support/hardware.html\")
- IMPORTANT - WHEN YOUR HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE WORKS FINE (WINDOWS, DRIVERS etc)
IN THIS CASE, GSFIX DECIDELY HELP.

Hi Neno,
I must say that I greatly appreciate your generousity in sending me a copy of your GSFIX utility.
However, I\'ve so far spent an embarrasing amount of money and time getting the PC/GSt/Logic setup to the (slightly underwhelming)point it\'s now at, and I\'m paranoid that your executable may do something other than optimise Gigastudio\'s environment - (maybe open a portal to the Underworld right here in my studio!)
When I told the guys who set up and sold me the system that I was considering using this mystery executable the response was \"NOOOOOooooooo!\" (I have a feeling that they don\'t want to pick up the pieces if I need to reinstall everything.)
What you offer is almost too fabulous to be true.
How can I feel safe to run it?
It\'s a very frustrating position to be in - a single click away from Nirvana or Chaos!
Maybe other Gigastudio users have had the balls to apply your fix?
Thanks again for your generosity in sharing what is obviously the result of a lot of hard work.
Regards
Rick

I\'m sorry to say this, but until proven otherwise, I think you\'re a load of bull http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif It doesn\'t run resident, it doesn\'t change drivers or program code. I can\'t see how this would do any difference to anything. Either you\'re spreading a virus or you\'re spreading a piece of code that does nothing..

Yes, it helps in my case too - thanks!
I figured out what it does - no disassembly required! But don\'t worry, I won\'t give away your secret (though it\'s not that hard to figure out). What\'s a little hard to figure out is *why* it improves polyphony; I\'ll have to think about that one. I do notice some timing problems at higher polyphony; but then, I only see this when the number of voices goes well above what I could get before. And I don\'t think I\'ve noticed timing problems at the polyphony levels I was getting before. Interesting. I\'d be interested to know what the Nemesys programmers think about this.

I noticed in your post you have the same ASUS CUSL2 motherboard that I\'m using. I have used ASUS boards for a while now without problems. I work at Intel with a few of the developers of the 815e chipset used on CUSL2 board. They warned me to use high quality CAS2 PC133 memory as the timings are quite tight and warned me not to use generic memory for PC133 memory. PC100 generic memory works fine at PC100 memory speed. Thanks.

However, I would like everyone who submit to this thread also to write what pc configuration he/she has.

My setup is:
Gigastudio
Logic Platinum 4.5
PIII800e, Asus CUBX mobo,
256mb ram,
1 x IBM 15gb UDMA drive for programs,
1 x IBM 30gb UDMA drive for audio,
Creamware Pulsar 2 audio card,
eMagic Unitor II midi inteface (serial), Matrox DH video card,
Intellimouse (serial).
1x15gb & 1x30gb backup HDs,
CD rom,
CDR/W burner.
Because I kept getting ASIO errors (even when only running midi and Giga) I\'ve disabled the audio part of Logic.
Currently, before noticeable latency or slowing the PC to a crawl, I can only achieve between 50 and 120 polyphony - depending on the sample set used. I have a hunch that humongous sounds like Gigapiano etc., load the PC more than your average 8mg Akai sound, resulting in latency problems being noticed sooner.
If Neno\'s fix helps me to run a few tracks of audio and/or those fantastic VST plugins like the B4 or Prophet 52 I\'ll be a VERY happy chappy!

Right you are - I\'m painfully aware that my pc could use more horsepower. I\'m waiting till end of year to see what prices do. (BTW I use Cakewalk.) As it is, though, I have a useable setup; I can get around 120 voices if the planets are lined up right. With Neno\'s fix, it got up to 156 voices before it choked. (The piece I\'m working on at the moment would easily use 280 voices if I had them.)

Hello Neno: I would very much appreciate the patch you made for
Gigasampler as I am not rich(can\'t afford 2 computers)and don\'t want to wait
until I am an old man when Nemysis decides to use and post your work if in
fact they do.I very much appreciate the work you and others are starting to
do such as the EMU APS cracked drivers for the Soundblaster(even though I
don\'t own that card).I like the spirit of if the company\'s gonna drag their
*** we\'ll do it ourselves.Question: is it possible to write GSIF drivers for
a card that is not compliant if you have limited knowledge in C? Also if
there are any special instructions for installing the patch please include
them.Thanks much, Alan Alndln@juno.com

Hi all !
Long time no see...
Neno, thanx for the gsfix...
I\'ve tested it but it doesn\'t enhance much things in my case.
My setup is :
Nec PII 300mhz + 128 mg ram
1X 4,5 Gb UW Seagate Barraccuda HD for 2 systems and soundfonts
1X4,5 Gb U2W IBM Hd for Cubase VST 5 files
1X 8,5 Gb UW Quantum external Hd for gigs
Yamaha 8424 scsi Externl burner
1 Sb Live (with APS driver)
2 Matrox vdo cards + 2 X 15\" Sony 100sf monitor
Win 98 (without internet explorer...)
I get 60 notes polyphony together with a few cubase tracks (usually a premix of audio tracks) with or without the gsfix.
I know it\'s a weak horse but :
1- It\'s really well configured and tweaked for audio.
2- I constantly switch from in line/ off line. Whenever I need more \"on line\" midi voices, I use some good 2.1 soundfonts converted from my Akai Cd\'s for sounds up to 32 meg.
3- I like to use what I\'ve got for a while to stay productive... It\'s good to work within boundaries sometimes (so you don\'t use 120 tracks just because it\'s possible...) I have been very productive and creative with it those days. :-))
4- Constant system update is an expensive and non productive business... By the time you get the new system w/ new Os + the latest software version working together, there is something twice faster and half cheaper out... which of course you need for the next revision of your favorite GigaSeLogic...:-)
5- The longer you wait, the bigger your joy when you see the number of plug in/Eq/poly you can add with the new machine compared to the (infamous) old one.
This said, there is a time when the screen redraw is so slow, you know you\'ll have to spend some cash to keep on going...
Like Ursatz, I wait for the end of the year to get a super fast Mobo/Ram/Cpu together with a nice Gsif card (I\'m thinking of the Wamirack but it seems a lot users experience \"rice crispies\" with it...).
I\'ll go for at least 1 gigahertz Chip w/512 Mb of ram + and 3 screens.
In the studio I work with, I\'ve installed a dedicated PIII 450Mhz Gigasampler 1.6 machine with a Gina aside a PIII 550Mhz with the Sonorus card and the Audiowerk 8 for Logic Audio (interfaced with 3 Adats). I\'ve urged the manager to buy Gigastudio while it was cheap, but now I won\'t install the upgrade as I can\'t garanty him a reliable Gigastudio operation for this machine...
I still can\'t get why Nemesys doesn\'t implement a \"Cpu fuse\" or a \"maximum Cpu load\" feature in Gigastudio. Total system crash doesn\'t look good (especially when you just finished an hour talk about the advantage of going computer instead of hardware... ;-)
Anyway thanks Neno for your effort. I\'ll try it on my Christmas new toy ;-).
By the way, I\'ve met Dave Govett here in Paris while he was on the Nemesys European Tour. I must say the guy is quite friendly, knowledgeable and a pretty talented orchestral composer.
I\'ve been very impressed by Donnie\'s percussion library as well. One more on the \"to buy\" list.
I\'m weak.
Back to music.
Best regards to all

How about to un-install the GSFIX program, what need to be done? it\'s not pretty cool question, but I\'d like to know if it\'s possible? any registry or system initialization are related?
Thanks,

Hi,
GSFIX uninstall is very hard operation.
You must delete GSFIX.EXE, and
JOKE,JOKE,JOKE,
only delete GSFIX.EXE.
It\'s all.

Neno,
You asked me to comment on your little fix.
Unfortunately, it did not help in my case. I sometimes get a pop or two at approximately 50 notes polyphony with a current project, but I am quite sure this is because of the current arrangement, and how the current instruments I use are distributed on the HD. In other projects I could reach higher polyphonies with less complex instruments.
I am however very curious what your little fix does in order to improve performance. I can\'t think of anything that is simple and Nemesys haven\'t thought of. If you don\'t want to reveal it, it\'s fine, but I still am curious http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
I think you have underpowered pc for gs and vst working alltogether.
Please write what pc configuration you have.

Hello Neno,
I tried your patch, but in my case I didn\'t see an improvement.
PIII 733 EB Coppermine
Asus P3V4x MB, 128 MB PC133 CAS2
Soundblaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.03
Gigastudio 160
Thanks for letting me try it, though.
For those of you who are interested, this fix is NOT free. There is a $25 registration fee. But at least you\'ll get to see if it improves your system before you pay.

Very interesting.
I tested successfuly GSFIX on the same motherboard (P3V4X,933,256MB (133),SbLive,Yamaha DS2416).
You have good configuration but without enough memory.
I don\'t know which disk (ATA33,66?) you use?
SbLive doesn\'t have MULTICLIENT drivers.
You must have another card for audio in sequencer.
In your case,
- disable audio in CakeWalk
- try with more complicated arr (more channels, more poly)
Anyway thank you for your tried.
Neno
