Inestability after installing Giga and Nuendo

Hello,
My system looks to be not as stable as I wanted. Some times system hangs up suddenly, but the biggest problem comes after installing GigaStudio and Nuendo soft. After that, system crashs without following any rule, appearing the famous blue window, or just RESETING by itself when for example I make a double click on a file!!!!
My configuration is:
-Abit VP6
-Two PIII850
-RAM: dimm1=128Mb;dimm2=128Mb;dimm3=256Mb All of them PC133.
-AGP: Geforce 256 MX Pro (dual head)
-PCI-1: ADAPTEC 29160
-PCI-2: Miro DC30+ Video capture card.
-PCI-3: BestBuy TV-Tunner (BT878)
-PCI-4: RME Hammerfall 9636 sound card
-PCI-5: SBLive Value
-One IBM ATA-100 45Gbin first IDE (Master)(Boot disk particioned in two for OSne for winME and one for win2k)
-One DVD Pionner in second IDE port (Master)
-Two IBM ATA-100 45Gb in RAID.
-One Seagate LVD 19Gb HD attached to Adaptec 29160
-Plextor SCSI CD, attached to Adaptec 29160
-Ricoh SCSI CD-RW, attached to Adaptec 29160
-External Modem attached to COM2
-Keyboard and mouse attached to PS/2

You may not want to hear this but I\'m running giga 96 with logic audio gold...
I\'ve since reformatted my C:/ drive to eliminate Giga studio..
From alot of the posts here I\'m building another system to run giga by itself..
I too had either logic or giga by itself running fine but together it just dyed..
I think it\'s too much to run on one system..

Someone posted that they have it running together but they had to fight it tooth and nail...
For $2500 Can I\'m gonna build a 24 track sampler that really sounds awesome..

Those are bad news.. I have a dual system with RAM enough.. But anyway. What processor and how many RAM should be enough for running just GigaStudio and with what soundcard?

There is a post active right now on what works.. Something about resisance is futile..
it has like 30 posts or so..
I\'m going for a P3 256 ram ata100 drives with a cubx asus motherboard..
I have a motu 2408 for my other system I sorta wonder if I\'ll go with that or a Hammerfall one..
Just make sure it\'s giga comp..

Most people seem to have a system this big running 160 poly give or take.
I think it\'s worth the investment..

You have too many stuffs in your system, man! I think you have some system-conflicted problems.
As for me I would remove and re-arrange the hardwares as follows:
1> Remove form the systems:
-PCI-1: ADAPTEC 29160
-PCI-2: Miro DC30+ Video capture card.
-PCI-3: BestBuy TV-Tunner (BT878)
-PCI-5: SBLive Value
2> Swapping card between PCI-1/2/3/5:
Important NOTE: You must add the PCI hardware one-by-one for easy debugging. First you only need SCSI-controller + AGP video then soundcard and so on. Don\'t forget to disable USB ports (see the (3)).
Here are new PCI assignment:
- ADAPTEC 29160 into the PCI-3
- BestBuy TV-Tunner (BT878) into PCI-1
- Miro DC30+ Video capture card into PCI-5
- SBLive Value into PCI-2.
3> Disable USB ports from BIOS or system-property, to free-up more PCI bus processed and more IRQs as well (USB must uses PCI).

Reason for these:
1> Shared IRQs on the PCI-1 and PCI-5 are bad placements for realtime apps such SCSI-Controllers and soundcards which are highly recommended to have own IRQs due for best taking realtime performances (reduced latency) and more reliable processing.

2> Solution for Ext-MIDI ports:
In case you want an \"external MIDIMAN Midisport midi-interface\", try it on the serial-port. I don\'t own the MIDI-Sport but I\'m having the biport 2x4s, it\'s working fine on the serial interface protocol. You might check with MIDIMAN tech-support for better ideas (get serial drivers).

Suggestion on PC performance:
a> Adding more DRAM up to 512MB or more, faster CPU like 933~1000Mhz, would helps a lot (Please note that, dual CPU has no advantage in win9x/Me platform)
b> Reducing No. of soundcards or/and other Video/Tuner/modem hardware to have better performance. Since you have multi-boot, you might have other win9x/Me boot partion on it or having multiple inviroment setups (windows) would also helps.
c> Reducing No. of software application like games, internets, video-ultilities, etc, which might be not relative audio-apps.
d> As for me that I wouldn\'t place any cards into PCI-1 and PCI-5 (due to avoid IRQ-Shared/Conflicted) or just disable form windows setup when I want doing some realtime recording applications.
e> About soundcards: We see many user\'s post about their systems and soundcards on this forum, it\'s great to learn more!

Other comments:
Ideally you can have all-in-one system (like your setup now) but you need to spend a lot time to organize how they work sequencially. You must know which hardwares and softwares must be required realtime processing (described above) like Video/audio/SCSI, they would not being shared-IRQ/DMA. Well, today\'s PCs have very narrow limited based CPU on M/GigaHezt, Memory on M/Gigabyte and the IRQ/DMA resources. So we must know when/where it hit to that limit, that\'s all. Conclusion is you will need future system and OS which has 32/64-IRQs and must be supported multiple-CPU operation. I see by my own eyes about eight-CPU on same mother board it runs on the Windows-NT-Server platform with about 8/12 PCI-slot.

Anyway, you will have wonderful time on your setup environment! (just kidding) Of course the setup would works under some certain conditions. That\'s all I know!

I´ve changed all my cards but just keeping ADAPTEC in the same place, and taking out my SBLive.
PCI-1: Adaptec 29160
PCI-2: Best-Buy TV-Tunner
PCI-3: Hammerfall 9656
PCI-4: DC30+

Why this configuration looks to be more stable?
Because PCI-5 IRQ y shared with HPT370 and it´s better to let it empty.
PCI-2 and PCI-3 share the same IRQ so it´s better to install two cards that is not usual that work together.And also, because Hammerfall is able to share its IRQ without giving problems.
PCI-4 shares its IRQ with USB port, so you must install there a card like Dc30+ (not used when you need to work with midisport).
Why to take out SBlive? Because it´s not necesary for working with any program. I have 2 ADAT in/out in Hammerfall and analog in/out in DC30+, and External Yamaha 01V...so why to keep it inside?
I´m still testing the system, but after the first contact, I have good forecasts about it...

You may want to disable any com ports usb ports that aren\'t needed on your system.
Do that in your Bios..

My system it´s still unstable. I´ve read that another guys found the same problem. After installing Giga, their system came unstable. Right now I only have pluggled my adaptec card and Hammerfall... And the problem is still there. Could it be a WinME problem? or it´s just a GigaStudio\'s bug?
Could anyone from Nemesys give me a solution or an answer please?

Make a new partition,
Install Win98SE instead of ME, and when you set it up from the floppy disk, type

setup /p i

which will install windows without ACPI (number one problem causer)

then install directx 7 then your audio software only, and try to get the system going without the other software like the dc30 etc.

the blue screen is a bug that is common in winME.

your athlon based via board can cause problems too, make sure you have via 4in1 4.28va installed.

nuendo isn\'t particularly stable either. Try gigastudio without nuendo first, maybe with VST or Logic if you have them.

Another thing, you could try Hubi as your midi driver instead of the nemesys driver. If you do this, make sure to disable the nemesys ports in cubase as outputs, so that they are not loaded in your sequencer, and disable hubi as a possible input port on the sequencer or you will get feedback midi problems.


Try some of these things, they might fix it for you.

sorry just reread your post and noticed the vp6, so it\'s intel not athlon. still the via chipset though....

I set up a machine with 98 and winme both identical hardware, identical software and drivers etc, dual booting basically, and the winme one had random blue screens with audio software. so i concluded there was something funny in Winme.

Another thing thats a strong contender for your problem is the sblive in the same machine. try taking it out and see if the problem goes away. if so you need another cheap soundcard instead.
