View Full Version : Only 64 Voice Polyphony in GigaStudio160

I need some help from the experts on this forum. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I am only getting 64 voice polyphony in my newly installed GigaSampler160.

Also, after rebooting, GigaStudio resets max. number of voices to 64.

I have tried applying the RAM x 256 vcache settings. No luck.

When playing there are clicks when getting close to 64 voices.

When I installed GigaStudio, I let some \"shared\" files remain on the hard drive, to maintain functionality of other programs.

My setup:
Pentium III 1GHz
512 Mb RAM
Maxtor 7200rpm Hard drives
Aark 20/20+

I include some info from diagnostics below:

Try turning off USB in the CMOS setup. Let me know what happens.

Have you registered GS?

I registered it over the internet when I installed it today. I haven\'t been able to update to the latest version (this a year old version that has been sitting on a shelf) because it takes 24 hours before you can update after registering.
Does it take 24 hours to get full polyphony?

I never had any problems with clicks in GigaSampler, but now it starts clicking when I reach 64 voices. I had USB enabled with GigaSampler and I have it now. Do you think USB could have anything to do with it, when it maxes out exactly at the limitation of my previous GigaSampler version - 64?

Thanks,
Hans

Hans,

I had a similar problem - in fact, I still have it. Gst on my \"normal\" Win98 installation (with internet, Office, games etc.) still will not go over 64 voices, no matter what. The only way I\'ve been able to get >64 was by installing Gst over a pristine Win98 install.

I posted a message about a week ago with the same issue. Mine peaks out at about 68-70 voices and then notes get cutoff. I\'m not getting any pops and clicks. It always defaults to 64 voices on startup. I registered my program by calling Nemesys directly. They sent me an email and I did enter the key they sent. I verified that in the Help Menu.

I am suspecting that it might be an old .dll that is causing the problem. All files connected with GigaSampler were not deleted when I upgraded to GigaStudio.

Haydn and Ursatz, did you leave \"shared files\" on the computer when you upgraded?

Hans,
It was so long ago that I don\'t remember for sure, but I probably did leave the old files around since that\'s what I usually do. It makes sense that the problem would be an incomplete cleanup of the old Gigasampler files - that\'s definitely a difference between the setup that works vs. the one that doesn\'t.

Clueless,

I have now tried your advice. No difference. I had the option \"Assign IRQ for USB\" in my BIOS. I set it to \"disable\". I am still getting clicks at 64 voices. Max. voices = 64.

I could live temporarily with only 64 voices, even though I purchased the 160 voice version. What I do mind is the clicking.

Thanks Horst,

I will certainly try it!

Horst,

I have tried your remedy all day without any improvement. I believe you are right that there is a bug. It has something to do with the advice Nemesys gives, that you have to reboot to get full polyphony.

Do you think you possibly may have done anything in addition to save performance and reboot, over and over, to overcome the problem?

Hi,

I think there is some stupid bug in Gigastudio. It has nothing to do with old .dll because I had the same problem when installing GSt from scratch.

Try a couple of times to: Set polyphony to 160 voices, save performance, quit GSt, reboot, start GS, load performance. After some trying I manged to reach high polyphony.

Good luck.

Hans,

I´ve got a highly effective advice for you, but you do it on your own risk. If you have Windows 98 or 95 you do the following:

GStudio stores settings in the Windows-Registry. At least you can find out, what it has stored concerning polyphony. But you may also alter the value if refuses to change itself.

Close down all apllication, especially GStudio!

Go to DOS-Prompt or \"Ausführen\" (I assume you speak German) in Start-Menue.

Type in \"regedit\". The Registry-Editor will pop up. Select \"Bearbeiten>Suchen\" from the menue. Type in \"Polyphony\".
Assume you haven´t got another application that is using the word \"Polyphony\" this will lead you directly to the Nemesys-Entries. If not go find your way through the follwing tree:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Conexant>EndlessWave>Settings

The decimal-value in brackets behind the hex-string shows you the current no of voices.

Is it 64 ? Click on Polyphony and press RIGHT mouse-button. Select decimal-value in the popup and enter the value you wish (160 maximum of course).

There is no need to save the registry. Changes are valid when entered.

Start GStudio and see what happens.

Let me know what you experienced.

Be careful with registry changes. Your OS might be damaged.

Horst.

Hans,

just to add: I tried it out again and found that you first have to REBOOT after changing the registry, before you start GSt.

I found out that GSt reads the registry setting at boot time.

After I rebooted I could see the altered polyphony value also in the GSt settings.

If - after reboot - your registry still shows the old polyphony value (64), then there is probably something wrong with you boot-sequence.

Horst,

That\'s a highly qualified advice. I am going to try it over the weekend. I have used regedit before. I am always careful...

Thanks,

Hans,

When I do these three things I get 160 voices. I barely get 64 unless I do these things:

1. Clean custom install of Win98SE with zero accesories/options.

2. Under the Run menu type msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck everything except Scan Registry and Systray. Do not uncheck those!

3. In Device manager select the properties of all CD/CDR\'s go to the Settings tab and uncheck Auto Insert Notification.

Finally, as a general rule I go into the Advanced settings menu of the Dispay Properties into the Performance tab and set Hardware acceleration to None.

Running a Tascam PCI-822 I get 160 clean voices on a PIII/750.

Horst,

I have checked the register with Regedit.exe.
I have the correct 160 voice polyphony value.

Thanks Stig,

I will try your recipe and let you know what happened. Are you Swedish?

Cool. No, Stig is short for something else... I hope those things work for you.
