It adds to the desire of many people to have sampling integrated into their sequencing and is compared to hardware very low in cost. (Does not need SCSI CDR & HD Media) We welcome all it\'s users into the fine world of sampled sounds!
Also HALION from Steinberg looks cool and is much promising. (Takes only a little while to be released)
Eric Persing from Spectrasonic has good report with developers from both programs so compatibility will be there in advance and not in the upgrade.
However........both companies announced Audio Streaming @NAMM.
(I.E. taking a buffer of the sample into the RAM memory and streaming the rest of the sample while playing) Already this capability was denounced @Frankfurt.
Halion and EXS will NOT be able to do what NEMESYS GIGA sampler and studio do.
The invention (Endless Wave) was patented by a company called Rockwell and licensed to Nemesys only.

I can still only find the basic Halion announcement:

Direct streaming from disk allows the use of very large sample sets with no memory problem. Standard RAM streaming is
still availible as an option.

What\'s there to say about METAMORPHIS?

also combine analog and acoustic modules to create very innovative
hybrid constructions.
The TassmanTM generates sound by simulating the different modules
through physical modeling. This technology uses the laws of physics to
reproduce the behavior of an object. In other words the TassmanTM solves
mathematical equations describing how an object functions. It uses no
sampling or wave table synthesis, it simply calculates the sound as you
play in accordance to the controls it receives.
The TassmanTM is comprised of two applications. Instruments are
constructed in the Tassbuilder by patching together different modules
selected from the library. Modules are simply building blocks, with
inputs and outputs connected by virtual wires. The modular architecture
also allows you to define patches you make as new library modules for
inclusion in later patches. Instruments created in the Tassbuilder are
saved as very short text files making it incredibly easy to exchange
instruments with other users... it\'s as simple as sending an email !
Once an instrument has been created, the Tassplayer is called to play
the synth. It interprets the file generated by the builder, and
automatically generates the playing interface corresponding to the newly
created instrument. The front panel display of the TassmanTM was
inspired by classic analog hardware making it easy to understand and
use.
All the controls on the player interface can been moved with the mouse
or mapped to external MIDI controllers giving you complete creative
control over every aspect of your newly created instrument.
Both the full version of the TassmanTM and the demo version come
complete with over 100 prepatched synths and instruments, with over 300
presets sounds. Rest assured, these constructions do not even begin to
scratch the surface of the full potential of the software.

that\'s bull****.
If nemesys could write a program that wasn\'t FILLED with bugs, then it wouldn\'t matter...we shouldn\'t be punished for this! I don\'t understand how you can patent something like that? Maybe the actual method or code but not the idea of streaming media from a disk...what the hell is that?
