I had 5 stars yesterday, now I\'ve been voted down to 3. Big frigg\'n deal.
But what I can\'t stand about THIS forum is how pussy people can be here, if you got a problem with something I said just be a man and tell me about it. Jeeze, wimpy composers... hiding behind some stupid star system. Every other forum I\'m on people have the guts to tell people how they feel...
I know what this is about, It\'s cause I said my wife is an agent and that I\'ll ride her coat tails. That\'s life... Deal with it....
Please feel free to vote all may stars away... big deal. Get a life.
Have a good day the rest of you /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Guess I\'m one that feels that there should be no anonymity with this star thing. You should be able to see who votes for you or against. Not cause I\'m gonna start crap, just that it\'ll stop people from being so childish....
What is this, 3rd grade?

I was five stars for a long time...Later , three people voted me one star , and I know who they are...
...After this terrible happening I could not sleep for one week and I needed to begin a intensive psychiatric treatment but the doctors told me \"itīs a so terrible problem not having five stars on NS that no one will be able to help you , only the heaven\"...Than , some days later I tried to kill myself , but I couldnīt because when I was about to explode my head with a gun a angel appeared in front of me , and told me \"Hey , thereīs so many important thing in your life for you to worry , why do you give so much importance on the image others have about you???Enjoy you and your talent!!!

Hey, I\'ve been getting 1 star pretty much since I joined here! I might be controversial at times, and even alarmistic, but at some point I guess I really pissed someone off!
Anyway, who cares? I really thought they did away with the whole start system with the new software, I guess not.
Truly, I think the most fair start system I\'ve seen is the one based on your number of posts. That way, the people that contribute the most messages receive higher rankings.

Kid, don\'t expect this place to be any different than the real world. There\'s always going to be a certain number of great, good, ok, so-so, bad, awful people here. You\'d be naive to expect anything else. And, IMV, you shouldn\'t expect more honesty here than anywhere else. I don\'t think composers are particularly wimpier than any other artists. Under normal circumstances, that would make a lot of sense mid, except... There are always a handful of members who puke out posts at the rate of a dozen a day... Look at some of the \"date joined\" figures versus their post counts. There are a couple that have been here for two months and have already racked up half as many posts as you ( and you\'ve been here for two years) What does that say to all of us??? ... not really sure... but it does concern me when folks have that kind of time on their hands /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I have found quantity doesn\'t necessarily equate to great wisdom or profound thoughts... often, just copious amounts of... puke. Personally I think it should just all be settled with a winner take all arm wrestling contest. Or maybe a dance off.

I think the first day the new board was up, I asked the first question about stars. I had a couple of people who voted me for two stars upon me asking the question. At first I was wishing I could have kept my 5 from the old NS, then I was told that it was an honor to wear the low badge rating since nobody else had the lower rating (at the time I think it was 2 stars). Kinda humorous, but I felt it was more entertaining to wear my 2 star badge with a big smile and a lot of pride /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif than to worry about it. I decided I liked my 2 star rating.
NOW WHAT THE HECK?!? I DON\'T FEEL SO *SPECIAL* ANYMORE FOR MY LOW RATING. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Someone voting you down is like someone keying your ride.... it\'s just something a coward does. Unless! You send them a note and tell them that it was \"you\". But still, why bother???
Hopefully the moderators just turn this star thing off. I don\'t know if there\'s a way to turn it off myself, but I\'ll leave it up so they culprits can giggle about their clever handy work! If it can help I can\'t care less about the star system neither and luckly most of you seem to agree on this point. If there was a possibility to switch it down in the software I would also ask for this to moderators.
That said it looks from some messages that some of the posters, while they\'re saying they don\'t care about the voting system, look like they\'ve anyway the need for some kind of evaluation system, like if they felt the necessity to *compete* with others.
As far as I\'m concerned, in my mind I\'ve a subjective image for most of the posters here, as I\'ve been regularly reading these threads almost from beginning. And that counts, the image about the others each of us constructs over the years.
I\'ve hardly the time to contribute as much as some of you because of my activities(where the hell do you find all this time???) and I try to share my opinion every time I feel I can really be of some help with my advices, or I feel deeply concerned with a given question.
On the other side, I\'d been given 5 stars on the old forum and I\'ve NEVER given any stars to any of you - just to be fair.

The star system doesn\'t mean anything, any more than any other popularity contest. Sometimes a bad rating means a person is rude. Sometimes it means they\'ve got strong opinions that others don\'t like. They can mean anything, and therefore, mean nothing.
That said, I wish the moderators would turn it off, because it is clearly distracting to many and takes focus off of the important thing--the value of our words and relationships.

Extremely well put Bruce.
Being a newcomer on this Forum, I always wondered what the heck those stars meant anyways. Now that it is explained to me I\'m amazed that they even exist. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
For what it\'s worth, I agree 100% with Bruce...take the darn things away (provided it\'s technically possible of course)...they obviously lack any form of substantial meaning anyways.
What\'s good to know, is purely practical stuff...like who is moderator etc...that\'s about it. I assume we are all adult enough to make up our own minds about the people we meet...otherwise we would need to have some sort of personal rating system...right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Stars are ok if you feel the need for superficial glamour and showing yourself off...but I\'d suggest calling Fab 5 for a complete makeover instead...they are guaranteed to make you look hotter than these stars ever will...

The massive amounts of nutsness and drama that goes on here really has the stars misrepresenting that they \"should\", so its jsut like Bruce said. its a popula\\rity contest, AND its totally not representative of the whole user/reader base. Since not everyone votes.

I only like parts of signs (but I like those parts alot), alot of people ahte the dialog, I actually kidn of dig it. The closet/pantry scene....completely and utterly absurd, and his biggest flaw, which is why its made fun of so much /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
6th sense, I figured out after seeing the trailer even (actually I wen home after seeing the trailer saying..... oh man it would be so cool if Willis\' character was ...well you know...and thought \"I should write that...then saw the movie...and after the first 10 minutes spent the whole movie watching other peoples reactions), its still a good movie to watch tho. Pacing is nice and slow, but never totally boring.
Unbreakable. Slow......slow.....slow.... but so many comic references, even in the shots, so I like it, and I like the idea/concept and some of the dialog.
I think Shamalyan\'s got definite talent, but he\'s not the next speilberg like he\'s being touted as. Especially as a director. he doesnt like to have as much fun as the old skool Speilberg (and sometimes better) speilberg had
Kaufman now.....that guy is light years beyond any screenwriter today. Witty, but Brilliant. I mean lightyears, There\'s such a HUUUGE gap between what he does and everyone else does.
Keopp\'s just got a way with tension, and diolog that doesnt always come out terrible. You never lose interest in whats going on (unless theres gratuitous camera work....and unless you\'re a genious with that crap like Zemeckis or Fincher its gonna take away from the characters)

Adaptation-
Well the back story (for those that don\'t know) is this:
It was never \"supposed\" to be titled \"Adaptation\", simply because that\'s not the name of the book --The Orchid Thief-- it was based on. [I remember my wife getting a copy from Susan about 6-7 years ago]. So yeah, I remember my wife receiving an early copy of the script way back, she was told \"you gotta read this and tell me what you think!!!\". My wife had read the book so she knew the story. Well obviously this was NOT an adaptation after all. You see Kaufman wasn\'t hired to do \"this\" version, he was hired to do a \"straight adaptation\" with his spin on it, which is far from what the film ended up becoming. Imagine the studio receiving that script. They had to be like \"WTF is this?????\". They get a script about how he can\'t finish the script, AND HE\'S A CHARACTER IN THE FILM???, A CHARACTER MASTURBATING WHILE THINKING OF THE AUTHOR WHOSE BOOK THIS ADAPTATION WAS BASED ON! What????? So basically it\'s a true story about his process. I remember people in the industry (still talking about the script, this is years ago) thought it was friggn insane, quite a buzz on it, but still, everyone seemed to really like it. I forget who, but they convinced the studio to make \"his\" version, simply cause it was so friggn great! So Kaufman totally changed the direction of the film.... pretty friggn ballsy! And pretty friggn ballsy of the studio (Columbia? can\'t remember) to make it.
And remember this was before he was \"that\" well known. I mean know for being \"out there\"... so far \"out there\".
But anyway. People were a bit concerned how Susan [the author] would feel about his take, how he portrayed himself masturbating thinking about her and what not. And the fact that it\'s hardly even about her book........ She loved it!
It got the green light...
Fast forward a few years and here we are at the premiere. The head of the studio walks on stage and proclaims how proud of this film they are. And if you\'ve been to a premiere you know this kinda thing NEVER happens.
------------------
Honestly I was surprised that anyone outside the industry \"got\" this film. And more specifically \"got the ending\". Yeah he basically \"sold out\" [the ending]. Most of the people that didn\'t like the film didn\'t know the back story or that the crap ending was intentional. And that is what makes that film so great IMO. His films are for people who pay attention. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

tho in my mind Koepp and Shamalyan are very close in many talents, Shamalyan just got the lucky break that KILLED Koepp\'s almost as good and incredibly similar flick

I\'ve heard this before and I don\'t agree that Stir of Echoes was all that similar to Sixth Sense. In fact, the ONLY similarity is a kid who sees the dead, but the kid seeing the dead in Echoes is a minor part of the movie. The movie is more about Kevin Bacon\'s journey in trying to solve the mystery.
Echoes is more of a traditional scary ghost story. Sixth Sense is much different in tone.
Not the same at all.

duh kid, thats teh story of the movie /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif hehee
what I mean is that they ar both ghost stories with twists.
and that 6th killed echos at the box office, not that they showcase the similar feelings I get between their movies (I\'d go more with Panic Room to compare to 6th or signs)

Well just to make you feel better, Koepp is a client of the company, although his agents are the partners of the company I\'m pretty sure. So it\'s \"all in the family\". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
