Well, everybody is busy with christmas, bless you
all... still I am stucked with my problem.
Nothing to do with effects, voices or CPU load...
No matter what I enable or disable...
A song can run smoothly (IF I PRAY HARD ENOUGH)
or, suddenly
I get after one or two minutes
MSG32 caused an invalid page fault
in wstrm32.dll etc....
I wish somebody could give me an idea....
For example what sections exactly I have to check in my system.ini?
What shouldnt be there?
I suspect an installation of a Sound Blaster Live software caused some changes in
the ini files...
(I have Aardvark ark24 + SB LIVE as a second sound card which I disable when I make music)
Thanks for any suggestion
Eilam
p.s. I have pentium III, 1 GHz, 512MB RAM,
Giga Studio 160 V2.2

Are you sure it is not a hardware problem? Are you overclocking? Adjusting core voltage or something? Does stressing your PC with other programs, like 3D games or such, cause crashes too?

Certainly not.
I did not want to give all details but...
I use Partition magic, so actually I have two seperate windows 98 systems.
The one for Audio is completely clean.
Moreover, the crash is a very funny one.
I can still close both Sonar (sequencer) and GigaStudio.
Then I reboot, and strat (and pray) all over again.
On the Audio system I have no games, not even MS office.
No program is running in the background, zero!
It could be something with the system.ini configurations?
Maybe the [386enh] section.
No idea what.

If you have a VIA chipset motherboard, check out the info on this page about problems with it and sound cards: http://www.networking.tzo.com/net/software/ (\"http://www.networking.tzo.com/net/software/\") Grab the PCI Latency patch and see if that solves your problem.

No VIA
Just Intel
Still faults all the time
Helpless

Well, one curious bug I\'ve found on my Aark 20/20 is that if it\'s sharing an IRQ with another sound card, unless I force the IRQ to be set to 9 in the BIOS, it will crash on shutdown if I have used GS. Mind you, everything works fine if I go through the MME interface with an audio program (Cakewalk, Cooledit). For some reason, going through the GSIF interface will cause a lockup when it\'s time to turn the computer off. Weird.

Go into your BIOS settings and force the IRQ for the PCI slot your Aark card is in to be set to 9. See if that alleviates your problem.

Strange
Aark 24 does not use any interrupts
even if it shows as if it does,
it does not.
Thats what AArdvark told me EXPLICITLY.
No, Its not the sound card, it is something in my
.ini files, but I need an idea fortracing it.

Yah, the Motorola 56C301 has a glueless interface to the PCI bus which, even though Aardvark does not use the IRQ line on it, still has an electrical connection and gets reserved an IRQ in the BIOS. What you describe as your problem indicates less an INI problem and more a hardware configuration problem. Pop out your SB card entirely and see if you can run without faulting.

I spent 10 hours last nightg trying to isolate the problem.
I might have found the problem.
One of my guitars played lots of chords
and theere was too muxh sustained pedal
which required too much effort from Giga.
When I took away the pedal I did not have the crash.
Also when I increases the transition voices to steal from blocked chords (what the hell does it mean)
from the min of 6 to 32 the crashes were less frequent.
So I strat to think it is still a Giga tunning problem.
By the way, in order to isolate the problem I installed Sonar on my laptop and ran Giga from a sequencer on my laptop, so Giga was alone on the computer, and I still had the cash.
Then I isolated each command in the 386 enh and finally I isolated the instruments and ran into the problematic one.
thank you all for your help, I hope I traced it.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Eilam

Okay, now I\'m starting to get a little more clear on what you are experiencing. What\'s happening when GS crashes is that it\'s trying to stream more than 160 voices. This is a bug in GS. When you hold down that sustain pedal and start peaking at 160 voices, the note stealing algorithm doesn\'t cleanly let go of notes and GS ends up actually playing more than the 160 wave streams that are hardcoded into the program. Set your maximum voices to 158 or 156 and then try pounding those chords with the sustain pedal again.
