I was intro'ed to Garritan's product line through an ad in Electronic Musician...
Just wondering how you guys heard about GPO?

I found it thru a link, but I wish I could remember where I how I got there. Late last September, I was surfing for orchestra samples, and boom there it was. It seemed too good to be true, but Gary delivered the goods!

I first heard about it when somebody mentioned it on the Finale forum last year.

I was reading some article online about orchestration, and the guy mentioned some of the different sample sets he used, one of which was GOS. I did a search for that on Google and suddenly came upon this incredible product called Garritan Personal Orchestra, which had just been released but hadn't quite shipped out yet. The drool immediately began to drop from my mouth... :p I had just talked to my wife about taking the time to go through all of the orchestral soundfonts I had collected and making a soundfont bank of an entire orchestra. But of course that wouldn't have been very cohesive sounding and some of the samples weren't too great. One listen to the Beethoven's 5th demo and I knew I had to have GPO!

Wow! Such pretty colors on the graph. I'm such a sucker for pretty graph colors. Of course I still like to play with crayons. :D
Last September I heard about GPO from someone on the Unicorn Nation forum. I must have looked over Gary's site for an hour looking at the pictures of all those instruments, and imagining how I might use them. IÕm such a sucker for musical colors also. Then, I linked over to this forum. The anticipation was rampant here, and I have to say it was the longest 2 months I've ever spent while waiting for GPO to hatch. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my dad would place fertile eggs in the incubator. The wait seemed like forever when I was 10. Oh yeh, we raised chickens for a while when I was a kid. :) And now GPO has been here for more than 6 months. It's play time for Karl.
Whoopee....

Reading posts on Gary's site.
First of all, full GOS was too expensive for me. Second of all, my GigaStudio-96 refused to work on a new PC with XP on it. So from time to time I checked news and finally found what really works. I would buy, without any doubt, full GOS adapted to NI player, not GIGA.

I was looking for some sound fonts and found a forum thread that mentioned GPO. I later decided to buy it.

I was just getting back into music. I had bought some cheap samples (first time) to try to roll my own orchestra package (didn't know you could buy one for less than a few grand) and I found I sounded exactly like the real thing - a person playing orchestra samples on a keyboard.
I was hanging out at kvr-vst forum and saw a post about GPO. I was still bummed about my last purchase, but decided to have a little look. I went to the web site and never looked back.

I was frustrated with the Sibelius Kontakt Silver player and read about GPO on the Sibelius forum.

Found Garritan site googling for orchestral samples. GOS/GOS lite too expensive but GPO affordable and quite good.

It looks as if most are hearing about it online, which is very cheap advertising when compared to magazines...
I wonder if this is BECAUSE the poll was done on the web, or if this is actually representative of how everyone heard about it.

I was looking for soundfonts on various websites and prostudiomusic.com had a page offering GPO and I followed the link to the GPO site.

This one will help your survey.... : Gary told me about it about three or four months before it was released.
I waited with baited breath to get may hands on it and was not disappointed.

I was looking at the Giga Studios stuff and this was way more affordable to get started with and now that I realize GOS is only sectional sounds and only strings, it looks like I will be staying here for a while.
BTW Alan,
in the selection of places we discovered GPO, you mispelled Norhtern
tisk tisk tisk huh? :)

You mean, you haven't been to NorhternSounds.com? oh MAN! that's where it's really at - this NorthernSounds is just a nice little front... the real stuff goes on in the back, at NorhternSounds... man, we've been using GPO Pro there for like, the last two months... hehehe ;)
Thanks... I'm still the first to get booted from a fifth grade spelling-bee...

Alan, no big deal, :)
What are the exact dates for the NAMM show in Nashville? Are you and Gary going to be there? If you are, I will make a trip and meet you all.

I read a glowing review of GOS a long time ago at www.prorec.com, so I have been interested in checking out the Garritan products for awhile. I started checking out the Garritan website. Then when I saw the non-giga GPO there for $249, well WOW -- it seemed like the perfect product for me -- a must-have. Turns out, I was right!
