tech support told me I should get a drive with the largest buffer available...which is not always made abunduntly clear with hard drive specs.

I\'m planning on using an OWC 400 mbps firewire drive.

Anyone else using firewire drives to read their samples with DFD???

Chris,,

I use two drives...80 gigs (Applications and OS only-Win XP Prof.) and 200 gigs for the libraries..both 8 mb cache - Maxtor drives..
My Gear is a 3.2ghz PIV HT with 2 Gigs Ram PC3200)...Maotherboard is Intel

thanks for the info alan. Not sure how the 3.2 ghz relates to a 1.25 ghz dual processor G4...I experience some crackling when I have a bunch of samples loaded. Perhaps I should up my RAM as well, I\'ve got a gig right now.

How do you keep your 200 gig sample drive defragmented?

Chris,

I would definately up the RAM as high as possible for your Mac. When Ram is low, the drive sees the traffic and with so many samples loaded, the crackling is self evident of the shortfall.
I hope you are using a decent soundcard here..
