I wouldn't mind having a CD of your pieces. Maybe we can talk Gary into making a CD of the very best of GPO with full 16 bit recordings and not MP3's. I'd pay $10 at least for it! Plus it be a great marketing tool.
A CD of the GPO Community! I would be happy to produce such a CD. What do you think of this idea?http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

What pieces would you recommend for such a CD?

How about a 5 CD set. :D

I think this is a great idea as I've tried my best to support everyone in the forum before in their ventures. I'd be happy to purchase CD's with these songs on them.

So far I've burned 3 CDs full, and that's not everything. I'd be glad to buy anything Gary has for sale. Well on second thought... :D

I would be willing to contribute to a CD! That would be cool.

Me too!
What a wonderful idea. Though i think it would be hard to choose which ones would go onto a single CD. I am sure everyone has their favorites.

I like the idea though. There are so many wonderful pieces of music here.

Sounds like we should roll with it Gary ;) - we could even resurrect the old late-night infomercial spots for it... hehehe

Seriously, I have 4 CD-Rs of GPO music in my car - they find their way into my car deck between Floyd and, well, Floyd... and I enjoy listening to them very much. Having a professionally pressed CD, mastered to sound consistent and in wav, not swishy .mp3, would be really cool!

Simple!

It should be just my music. :D

No... just joking. :D :D

What, CDezz? I don't CDezz. Do you CDezz? I want CDezz! Give me CDezz!
I have also burned four CDezz so far and that's not all. I would gladly pay for a CD set of GPO.
Go for it Gary!

I would be glad to pay for a CD, or even multiple CDs. I only have a dial-up connection and limited patience, so I'm sure I'm missing a lot of really interesting pieces.

very intersting idea.
it should be a compilation of all the tracks around here.
I would like to hear all this beautiful music professionaly mastered.

So garry, let the series begin.

A GPO Demo CD would be great. It will be hard picking what to put on it. So much good music in many different styles have been posted here. A vote might not be good because I, for one, don't remember half of the deserving pieces from even as little as a month ago.

I was under the impression that a 44100 Hz, 192 kbps MP3 is CD quality...

I'm new here! I've been reading for a few days and have ordered GPO, looking forward to it arriving very much so! :D I'm composing for an online RPG, and over the past few days I've very much enjoyed listening to lots of demos and songs on here made with GPO! I look forward to it very much so - and also wish I was around longer with some material that might make the CD, but oh well... :o I'm only sixteen anyway so I feel slightly small around here, but I'm very impressed with lots of these compositions and also the quality of GPO. Anyway, sorry, that was a sort of 'plee' for the CD and an introduction!

Bodweiser,

Welcome. I donŐt think you will find a more varied group of people anywhere than on this forum. You may be the youngest. Things like age gender and all the other reasons for discrimination donŐt seem to matter much here. As soon as you get your GPO chops cranked up a little, It will be nice to here something you have done with it. In the meantime, relax and join in. Feel free to ask questions or comment on all things GPO.

Again welcome,

Karl

Yes! Please make a GPO CD! I'd order one immediately.

I don't really know how you'd go about deciding what pieces to include. Maybe it could be mostly chronological, and you could release a new CD every couple of months? Or go by number of downloads from garritan.com?

Fifteen here, and that is really cool that you're composing for an online RPG (any more details?). Don't worry too much about the age thing...it is pretty easy to blend in. I find it amazing how people from absolute opposite ends of the age spectrum often post in roughly the same manner here. [Insert adage about music being timeless.]

I'm as happy as man who thought a cat had done its business on his pie but it turned out to be an extra large blackberry! :D ... or so the quote from Blackadder goes, I love Howard Goodall (spelling?) who composed the music for many of the BBCs shows. My copy arrived this morning, which I'm quite pleased about! :) And thank you for the warm welcomes.

RPG stands for Role Playing Game, and if I want to be really clever it's a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). At first I was lucky to find it, and I began to think the thing would never happen. But it's steaming along very quickly, although not much has been added to the website in a long time, so it's probably not much help giving the address. Basically it's sort of "Futuristic Medieval" which is fun because then you can play around with Medieval musical regs. and make them sound different - there's quite a lot of license!

Well, I should certainly hope Eriskay revisited is on there, it still is a favorite of mine.

And hello as well, Bodweiser, and a hearty welcome to the forum. As a huge fan of MMORPG's and RPG's in general I'll have to check out that project of yours. Don't worry about the age thing, I don't think anyone here notices. There is a wide range of ages on this forum. I'm just glad I know there's someone younger than me (I'm 23) hanging around the joint.

Bodweiser,
Sorry, that was my dog. I'll send over a scupper ASAP!
Welcome young buddy to the show that never ends! Hope you post a GPO piece soon so all can get acquainted with you and your work. This is a great place forum to be a member. No ranks or age garbage here! Just plain old respect, admiration, understanding and a heck of a lot of excellent help when you need it!!
Nice to have you...
(Only one warning...watch out for that Styxx character. We think he's about to go off the deep end any moment.) :D

I think that Styxx character was born off the deep end. :D Although he desperately tries, he has never been able to swim to the top but only a few times in his life. He struggles to the top, manages to catch a breath of sanity, then sinks back into the deeps of nonsense, humor and depravity. :D Really, watch out for him., for I donŐt think there is any hope of him ever becoming truly normal. :D

Naw, we know what's up here. We just tend to travel a bit but always manage to get back on track. You'll get used to it. That's the beauty of this forum. We all have grown to respect, admire and understand why we are all here!
SO GIVE IN CAUSE IT AIN'T NO USE IN FIGHTING IT! WE GOT YOU KNOW BOY! :D :D
I told you he was crazy!

Karl, then you agee with me that a real classical guitar would complete the song?

Oh yeh, the CD thing. Hope Allen can do the cover, and Styxx should write the liner notes. Oh no, what did I just say. Someone please catch me IŐm about to fall into that murky mess where Styxx's brain lives. Nooooooo!!!!!!!É :D:D:D

Aside... Styxx, Sure. Let me have my way with it. She may never dance again. :D

MP3's do not sound as good as 16-bit wave files! 192 Khz MP3's are definitely not CD quality. Even 320 Khz are not quite the same although much better. MP3's can alter the tonal quality depending on the decoder. This is why it would be best to make CD's from the original wave files.

Also, this CD would make a great demo for pushing GPO into universities, colleges, etc.

My ears must be broken or something, I can't tell the difference between 192 kbps MP3 and CDA.

Sounds like a winner to me, except that perhaps a set of 2 or three CD's might be more appropriate, considering the great variety of music produced with GPO.

Welcome Bodweiser! Great to have another forum member from the SW of England! Devon places you that bit closer to Time&Space - did that mean your copy of GPO got through to you quicker than mine? ;-)

a gpo cd is a cool idea - although I have no idea how the tracks would be chosen. But what a showcase for global compositional talent it would be! Or maybe we should go straight for iTunes...

Cheers!

Andy
