View Full Version : Demo Request Gabriel's oboe
Hey I'm in the market for an Oboe sound found in the movie the Mission and the sound I'm looking for is a majestic pure sound like that. If anyone could do a short mock up of that to give me an idea, I may put my order in for GPO by this weekend :) I love the stuff I've heard so far you all are wonderfly talented people and I just enjoy everything you do!

Seth,
In this thread:
http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23384
you can hear the GPO Oboe D'Amore and solo bassoon, and also a live recording of a symphonic oboe and bassoon player on the same piece.

Seth,
I don't know if this will help, But I did a little lullaby with the oboe.
This might give you a decent example of the sound of just one of the sampled Oboes in the GPO

I just found a link and listened to this song; gorgeous! If nobody has attempted by tonight, I'll try my hand at doing a mockup.

I was sneaky sneaky and was able to figure a way to listen to the file early and you did do a great job. I'm going on vacation next week , funny enough I'll be very close to Orcas Island:) I wonder if Gary has a store there Maybe I can pick up a copy from him in person :)

I thought it would be interesting to sample the other 4 (!) oboes that GPO has to offer (I used "oboe modern solo 2" for the inital piece). Below listed are renditions of Gabriel's oboe (w/o the intro) that allow you to do just that:
Oboe Modern #2 (full piece, go to 0:35 for oboe to start):

Oboe D'Amore:

Oboe Classical:

Oboe Modern #1:

Oboe Modern #3:

Happy sampling!

Pianoman,
Thank you for posting these. No one has taken an oboe solo and performed it with the 5 different oboes in GPO.
It's interesting to hear the differences in tone color among the different oboes. This is what you would get in a real orchestra with the various oboe players. Each has its own distinctive character. One oboe (say classical) may work better on one type of piece, whereas one of the moderns on another, or the oboe d'amoure on another.
What does everyone else thing about the different oboes? Does this type of piece lend itself best to one or more of the oboes? If so, which ones?
Thanks again Pianoman!
