Timpani Ex?

Hello,

there's an instrument "timpani ex" in GPO that sounds quite similar to the normal "timpani". I didn't find a reference to it in the manual - what's the purpose of this variation (i.e. in which way does it differ from the other timp)?

The original Timpani has a range of D1 to G2, the EX version has a range of C1 to A3.
