Hopefully I have all of the major sequencers here. If your sequencer is not listed please choose other.

Logic Audio Pro. I have Cubase SX 2 also but Logic just fits me like a glove (since 1996).
p.s. - I hope you're right about Logic 7 Lee. :)

OVERTURE 3 - Very intuitive, visual and simple to use - great flexibility in shifting individual note starts and finishes even in chords as well as controller changes from mod wheel to tempo visually. Has 8 voices per staff which gives a simple way of assigning eight different articulations per instrument.

Hey Houston,
I'm intrigued, how do you divide your operations between Nuendo and Cubase. Is Nuendo strictly for audio and Cubase midi?.

When I'm on a PC, Cubase SX. When I'm on a Mac, Logic Pro. With Logic, I do sometimes find myself frustrated without Cubase's Time Warp.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Jared.... SONAR is awesome. :D
I have Cakewalk's SONAR 3 Producers Edition... and it works extremely well with GigaStudio................ Gary

Actually, you left out Nuendo, which is the top-end version of Cubase nowadays (I believe they used to be different programs, but not any more).
I don't use Nuendo - and not for religious reasons, but because it doesn't support my Pro Tools hardware - but it should probably be on the list.

Logic and DP depending on the type of session and sometimes both.
Just out of curiosity, what factors determine your sequencer of choice?

I use Cakewalk Sonar 3 SE.
Have anyone of you changed from Cakewalk to Cubase, or from Cubase to Cakewalk, or from Logic to Cubase or something like that.
I have a feeling that when you first start using a sequencer, you stick with that one. Am I right?

Logic & Mac G5 - a match made in heaven :)
I used to use DP however and miss the step recording thing - it was a great way to quickly sequence scales with all of the midi events intact. I would even consider getting another Mac just to have that option and slave Logic to DP and vice versa.

I agree. It takes some patience to learn a new sequencer and the buzz words with it.
I tried Cubase and didn't like it since I've been using Cakewalk products.
My 1st sequencer was Voyetra Digital Orchestra. I really liked it but had to be dumped because you need a net connection for registration.
I'll stay Cakewalk and PC for a long time.

It seems like there's some pretty good "competition" going on here... Not to be too orn'ry, but do you think Cubase is "winning" because it's cross-platform? (Having chosen DP in this poll, I'm trying to decide if I'm a loser, or a member of the "elite"...?) ;-)
SONAR.....Would never use anything else. Once Sonar 4 Drops this month, you will all want switch!!

switched from CAkewalk 9 to Logic.
Liked Cwalk 9 a lot (easy to learn and ample features). Had nothing against going to Sonar at some point (once Score features got up to par).
But ultimately went with Apple and Logic. I love Logic more and more!! And I love the fact that i can have music apps and internet on the same machine with Apple. What a time saver.
And EXS-24 is proving to be a painless transition for me from Giga (though I loved GS from the get go). NOthing like opening my work and it's all there.
Also with Logic, I can apply efx to my sampled midi parts. No more capturing to audio then applying efx as i had to do in CW 9 (perhaps that has changed with Sonar with better bussing system). This alone saves so much time and disk space.

From the late 80's until the mid 90's: Peformer then Digital Peformer on a variety of Macs, starting with one of those old Macs where everything was built into the 9 inch screen casing. :-) Ah, the good old days!
From the mid 90's until just a while ago: I didn't have a professional level computer music system, just an acoustic piano.
Now: Cubase SX2 (soon to be SX3) running on a PC from VisionDAW.
I think I could get used to just about any computer and sequencer though. I don't have a really strong opinion about which tool to use, except when it comes to notation programs. I've used them all, and I much prefer Sibelius to any others.

So which is best for midi?, ignoring audio and notation.
I use "other", but don't use it for audio. I have not found any limitations for midi so am loathe to change it. (I tried it for audio when I first got it 10yrs ago, found crap, and have used samplitude for audio since). I flirted with Logic two yrs ago, but went back to my old one. However, I seem to be the only one in the world using it. (Actually, that's not true, I heard about another guy who used it once, a couple of years back)

not weird, I've tried PT MIDI on a couple of things, like to do more of it, biggest complaint is that neither PT or SONAR do MIDI event/note mute...so SX frequently gets the nod.

Why isn't Nuendo on the list? Do we just lump it in with Cubase?
It's definitely the best.

Sonar - it keeps getting better. I use Samplitude sometimes for audio & mastering. It's great for that but useless for midi.

I do not agree at all. I´ve used them all, either at work or at home, and I found that all of them have their strongs and weaknesses. I started with Cakewalk, then went to Logic, and finally to Cubase. I stay with Cubase over all the others.

We conducted a similar poll on the GPO Forum a short while ago with somewhat similar results. Here are the results:

It is interesting to see the trends that are developing in the industry.
