View Full Version : How to get stereo mixer channels in rewire mode?

I'm using Nuendo but in rewire mode i can only get mono rewire channels, if i want to use plug-ins i need to copy [plugins for getting stereo effects?
Is there a way to get stereo channels in rewiremode for Nuendo?
The mixer in Gigastudio is fine for me but my powercore plug-ins do not function within it, so i'm looking for a way to route the outs towards Nuendo via rewire and use the powercore plug-ins
Thanks in advance..

Resident,
What did you find out?
In SONAR the first two Rewire channels are a stereo pair (1,2), but the rest are mono. I can use two audio channels to bring back the GS3 audio, but it's a bit of a hassle.

...same thing in Cubase. If there is a way around this, I'd be interested as well. Reading the GS3 manual I was under the impression there was no alternative.

It is not that straight method but, you can make a Group channel in Cubase/Nuendo (for sonar i don't know if possible but i think it is) and then left channel (giga) put pan completly to the left (really!) and for the right giga channel to the ..........! Now route the left and right channel from rewire Gigastudio to the stereo Group channel and here you can mix down in stereo. I know it is a little complicated, but it helps me for the moment. In the mean time i hoope the people from Tascam will overcome this problem with the next update.
Does anybody have better ideas?
Goodluck.

Good plan - that will work fine. The idea of one stereo pair and a pile of mono Rewire channels seems odd...however, the intent seems to be to have you mix everything in GS and then run into the single stereo pair in the host app. I think that would be less CPU-intensive than having a pile of Rewire channels. Either way, it sure isn't as clean and simple as a VSTi.

Ah i forgot to tell you that with FX-max Gigastudio VST adapter it is also possible to route all of your channels in Nuendo. It didn't worked well for me but a lot of people are loving it!

That's what I've been doing in SONAR. It's not so bad once you've set up a template. But it still seems as if we should be able to pick stereo pairs OR mono channels.

In version 3.02 it is for sure not possible! Bad enough, or i'm missing something.

Has anyone figured out if Giga 3 can send stereo rewire channels to Nuendo withouit having to use groups? If not, will this be addressed? Moderators?

Beatpete: no answers i think nobody is missing the stereo outputs. I hope there will come an upgrade very soon where you can choose out of how many number Rewire mono channels, and more important how may Rewire stereo channels i would like to see in Cubase/Nuendo mixer or whatever sequencer.

I do miss the stereo Outputs. (using GS3.01)
Me too I get only one stereo pair in Nuendo 2.2, then only mono Rewire channels...
So this is the same with 3.02...
As the problem occur in Sonar too, it seems to be a pure GS issue, doesn’t it ?...

I actually doubt it. If I remember well you can find some posts about it in the Cubase SX official forum at cubase.net (do a search on 'rewire' & 'stereo').
It seems a PropellerHead Rewire internal limitation. We just can hope an upgrade to the Rewire 2 protocol ...

With Ableton live, and Rebirth i have no problems getting stereo channels in the Cubase/nuendo mixer! :) With Rebirth i even get mono and steroe channels.

After searching a bit in the propellerhead forum, there is some discussion there too about this limited use.
In fact the Rewire protocol provides audio channels "as is" and it is the duty of the host application to glue those channels as stereo tracks or leave it as mono. Ableton Live seems to be able to do that quite easily. People there suggest that Sonar, Nuendo, Cubase are faulty in their implementation of this protocol.
Due to a restrictive access of the developper kit, the only useful comment should be from a Tascam rep to confirm that it is not a GS3 bug ... ;)
Resident, you should be able to get all stereo tracks from GS3 in Ableton Live. Could you confirm that ?

I'm sorry i can not get Gigastudio to work in Ableton live as an Rewire slave. But i'm absolutely sure that Gigastudio is the problem for not giving stereo channels in (Nuendo,Cubase or Sonar). All other rewire apps are giving stereo channels.

Weird enough i had stereomixer channels when i upgraded to GS 3.03 i am also not able to select only one mono channel in GS that looked good. I switched too Hypertreading and there the sterochannels were in the Nuendo mixer!
But a lot of crackles and drop outs because of hyperthreading i guess so i switched back to hyperthreading off>>>>>>> result nomore sterochannels available in Nuendo.
Anybody having goodluck!

Yes i have now, simply buy gigastudio adapter from FX-max and use it as an VST wrapper! No more rewire issues anymore. I had problems with the wrapper because i was running my audiocard on 384 samples latency and the wrapper got confused by this setting since it only knows 256 or 512 samples. Now it works fine with a 256 setting! The latency of the wrapper itself can go down to 32 samples and this will be compensated in Nuendo. All tracks in stereo now! And no need for GSIF compatible audiocard!
