This is a recreation of the Bing Crosby holiday tune from the early 50's. The PDF file is an arrangement for solo and male chorus.
Ho, ho, ho, begorrah...
The MP3 file (http://www.mindspring.com/~davidmaddux/Christmas_In_Killarney.mp3) and the PDF file (http://www.mindspring.com/~davidmaddux/Christmas_In_Killarney.pdf) .
Hi David,
I typically quit listening to Christmas music in February and then pick back up with it again in August. I drive my wife crazy listening to it in 90 degree weather in August. :-)
I loved the arrangement...my foot is still tapping!

David, it's not even Halloween and now I'm looking for the mistletoe!
Your recreation of "Christmas in Killarney" so darned fun and infectious.
Fantastic job you did. I almost did an Irish Christmas jig.
Thanks for posting this. This is going to be enjoyed by many people this holiday season!

Christmas In Killarney
The holly green, the ivy green
The prettiest picture you've ever seen
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home
It's nice, you know, to kiss your beau
While cuddling under the mistletoe
And Santa Claus you know, of course
Is one of the boys from home
The door is always open
The neighbors pay a call
And Father John before he's gone
Will bless the house and all
How grand it feels to click your heels
And join in the fun of the jigs and reels
I'm handing you no blarney
The likes you've never known
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home

My father played this quite often when I was little. I can hear Bing singing the words. What a fantastic job you did!

David this is absolutely wonderful! I can't wait for the evening when my family decorates the house and the tree. A fire burning brightly and possibly a nice snowfall out side as we listen to the sounds of the season. This will be a nice happy piece to play during that time.
Thanks for sharing.

David,
Very nice. As one of those that is old enough to actually remember (first-hand) Bing doing this Christmas song, you did a great job David.
Now if only there was a "virtual" Bing to add the vocal........ ;)

"Buh Buh Buh Boo…"
Oh no that's the wrong Bing song. :)
David, your arrangements are lovely. I sure would love to hear them with the vocals. Thanks for sharing your GPO explorations with us.

Okay....REALLY going out on a limb with this...buuuut...I need a good excuse to play with my M-Audio Firewire 410 and my M-Audio Nova condenser microphone, so I am going to TRY to pull Mr. Maddux's .mp3 into Sonar and actually sing this thing. It won't be Bing (or Bobby Vinton either!), but it should at least be listenable.
I LOVE his orchestration on this (especially when I compare it to the Bing and Vinton renditions that I just now bought off iTunes). Nice wide stereo separation and just gorgeous to listen to.
If it DOESN'T turn out well, then I won't post it, but if somehow it works..then you'll hear it.
If you DON'T want me to try this, then simply say so and I won't be offended!
Wish me luck!

As long as you're enthused about this, could you post a higher bit-rate .mp3 file (I'm thinking at LEAST 192, however, 256, or even 320 would be great, but probably overkill).
I don't want to get too far into this and then wish I had a higher quality file, and as long as I'm going to attempt it, I don't want the 128 bit version to hurt your beautiful arrangement (man, the more I listen to it, you NAILED it...it will be an absolute pleasure to sing to...still thinking about the background harmonies/chorus parts, but I think I have an answer for those too).
Either post it, or email it directly to me.
Thanks!

Okay, one more HUGE request. In singing along to your wonderful arrangement, I've found that it is 1 whole step too low for my singing voice.
I know this is WAY too much for me to ask, but the only way I can sing it is if you could possibly transpose the melodic instruments up one whole step.
I will totally understand if you can't or don't want to do this, so you're not gonna hurt my feelings.
Still...it IS a cute song, and I KNOW I could nail a pretty good vocal track for it if I could just get it up one step.
Pretty please....with celeste on top??

Wow. Very nice mix BTW. I love the brightness of it. Very clean too. It really shines. GPO sounds amazing and you are a master David.

Helloooo?? Did I offend (hope not?)...did I ask for too much?
I'll just bump this little gem in hopes that something will happen.
Maybe Mr. Maddux has gone on holiday or something??
Just curious. I would love to sing this puppy...I just need it raised one whole step.

Kevin: As appealing as your offer may be, I'm swamped with projects at the moment, and have to pay attention to them first. Perhaps when I've finished...

Okay! Whewww! I thought I'd gone and made somebody mad!
Whenever you get a chance, even if you don't get a chance this year, maybe for next year.
Joseph, the problem isn't that it's too high (or I would have definitely pitched it down myself), it's that my low singing notes don't have any diaphragm support and therefore lack the oomph that they need (I'm certainly no Bing!).
I MIGHT pitch the .mp3 up a whole step (and then it will be faster though...but maybe not too fast), sing it, and then either leave it as is and see what people think, or pitch it back down and hope the "formants" (or whatever they're called) don't get too whacked.
I think I need that Roland gizmo (can't remember its make/model) that allows you to change times and pitches without hurting the overall nuances of the song.
David, I know this too is a huge lot to ask (and here I go again!), but if you recorded it in Sonar and wouldn't mind "loaning" me the file, I could transpose it and give it a shot.
Either way, I certainly don't want to bug you (very much anyway!!), so feel free to ignore until you have more time.
I really appreciate y'all's patience with me...I just wanna give back to this forum in a big way because I have received a literal "shot in the arm" from this whole GPO thing!
