I just received the Black Grand and loaded the number 1 patch of the Close Perspective into Halion.
I can barely contain myself. It plays like a piano, not a sample. It is an order of magnitude better than anything else I've tried.
THANK YOU for making this thing!!!

Congrats on the grand. I just got mine for giga 3 and I can't get anything to load. I have one gig of memory. Just curious, does your system have one or less gig of memory, and if it does, how did you get it to work? thanks
Hola A.S.
Sorry I can't help, but just for a point of reference I play the black grand on a win98 GS 2.5 box with 512 megs o ram. Maybe you need to downgrade. (Kidding!)

Hey, that's my system! Can you play it without problems? What's your "indicator" saying? My memory read-out in Gigastudio 2.5 is already 31% with only the Black Grand demo loaded.

Hey, on the subject of these pianos, this may be a dumb question but- how do they load (on GS3)?? I gather they use 4 ports - how does that work from a single MIDI channel?? What if I only have one port active? Actually, in my case I have two, but not four.

How do you mean? Can't you load the .gsi files? What happens?

The GS3 version uses one port.

Thanks for asking Worra,
I get the same message I get when I load too many samples into memory. Even before I try to lead the samples the little bar after the black grand heading reads 100 percent. Outside of the black grand I can load about 80 percent of samples into memory before I get the error message. Thanks for any advice.

ps the error message I get with the black grand is dsll unknown system error. The grand begins loading and just before it completes the message pops up. thanks

I've got two gigs of RAM, but I'm using Halion in Cubase.

Yah, it plays with no problems at all. The memory reads 66% with the close or ambient loaded, 68% with just the mid perspective loaded. This is GSt96 2.5 on win98, 512 megs of memory. I keep my systems pretty stripped down so this is a lean mean machine.
Fred asked about the port usage. Worra programs these for GSt 160 using 4 ports, and GSt96 supposedly only has 2 ports, but it plays all 4 ports fine, you just can't see the last 2 ports in the UI. Essentially I couldn't build his (simple) .gsp file, but I can play it fine (and I can build an equivalent performance environment using other tools like midiox).

Thanks, but I just remembered that I can't load DVDs, so it's no use. It's time for a new computer anyway. My old Carillon P III is way too noisy and isn't up for Giga 3.0.

Try loading a patch that's smaller, try either one of the patches that have a "6" in the name.
Does that load?

Thanks Worra,
That was the first thing I tried. I assumed the patches with 9 would consume the least memory so I tried them as I did all the others. Thanks again

Ok, let me explain how it works. Even if a sampler, like GS3, can stream from the harddisk, it always loads a part of each sample into RAM. This means that if you have a lot of samples, like in BG, it will use up a lot of RAM.
Now, the minimum requirement for the 24 bit version of BG are 1.5Gb of RAM, so you are actually under that, but you could try to make a 16 bit version of the piano and try that. It’s very simple:
Just open one of the perspectives, say Black Grand Close.gig in the Instrument Editor, under “Edit”, choose “Covert Wave pool format” and in the drop-down box, choose 16-bit integer.
Then press convert and resave the gig.
16 bit samples takes less space then 24 bit, so it should work for you.
You always have the original 24 bit samples on your DVD if and when you buy more RAM.
You should also check that you don’t have any programs that runs in the background that steals a lot of RAM. Have you checked with a spyware program like Adware or similar?
Let me know how it works!

Thanks much for the advice worra. I followed all the instructions to convert to 16 bit. There is some very strange behavior in the velocity switching now. If I play anything louder than a ppp It plays either a low C note or it makes a thud like sound. While it was in the process of converting I got a message that some samples were missing. a moment later another message came up that said the samples were fixed. Either way the piano is not playable. Is it worth me trying to delete the library and try it all over again from scratch? Thanks again for any advice.

Well, I just installed my Black Grand G3 and realized that my Medium Ambient Disk 1 is incorrectly labeled and is actually a duplicate of Ambient Disk 1. Close mics work, but I’ve been having so much fun with that so I haven’t tried the others yet:D . $10 says my medium ambient is hosed ‘till I grab Worra.:p :D (You might check this Antirocket)

I can't seem to get past the #1 patch on the Close Perspective. I love this thing.

Me too....great for jazz playing :) I just love the full bodied sound.
My only small criticism is that the highest 2 octaves seem a little loud in comparison to the rest of the library.
What is the easiest way to lower the volume on these particular notes?
