Hello all!

For some time now, ive been a huge fan of Koji Kondo's work on the Zelda Series, but alas, it's only been heard through GM on the Gamecube or worse.

(Ok, yeah and the hyrule symphony, but those were all remixes)

I'm proposing a project to take the songs from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, and recompose them using high-quality sample libraries. Here's a few examples I've done already:

http://www.firegamestudios.net/lvso/Market.mp3
http://www.firegamestudios.net/lvso/Deku.mp3

I'm only looking for a dedicated core team of about 5 or 6, but hey, more help the better. Those songs above are the only ones I have finished as of yet, and heres what I have yet to do:

Title Theme
Enter Ganondorf
Deku Tree - done

Those marked "done" are obviously, done. LOL, yes, I have quite a way to go, but i think somethign like this could be fun to do, and hey, maybe something to put on a resume? "Recomposed the Entire Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Soundtrack" Heck, I'm putting it on mine ;)

So if you're interested, post back, email me @ aixsyd@gmail.com , or AIM via the screen names c0vet or AegisOfPyros. Hope someones willing to step up to the plate and help out! :D

Hello FireGS,

This is an awesome idea! You have also done a great job with those 3 tracks! :).

I do own many orginal Zelda soundtracks and i'm with you that GM just doesn't do the music justice. I was also disapointed with the GM in Wind Waker. I really enjoy listening to Hyrule Symphony. It's a must have for any Koji Kondo fan.

Below is a link to some original music I made for a 2D Zelda fan game. Although the music is orginal, it's written with Zelda in mind. I hope all the Zelda fans like it. I should also note that this was made for a 2D game, so it may not be as perfect as it could have been. But overall I was very pleased with it. (6 tracks, 12mb download)
http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~peterwayne/BluetoneStudios/Zelda%20Music.zip (link is now working :))

On a side note: I also just saw your post on GameDev.net. I'm not sure what type of responce you will get there as most users have very very basic sample libraries. I'm sure many ppl will want to help, but well the sound quailty may not be the best. I'm sorry if i'm generalizing. But that has been my experince with gamedev. I only bring this up becasue I and i'm sure many others really want to hear these songs in full quailty. I personally dont what to hear anything less that VSL, EWQL, GPO, etc... I'm sure everyone here understands :).

I would love to help out. Although I'm really busy for at least the next few weeks. So I cant commit to anything at this stage. But i'll let you know if and when i can. I mean this cant be too hard as the midi is already written. It's just a matter of editing it. Maybe you should also think about getting the entire soundtrack in midi format and upload it somewhere for ppl to download and try out. I know I did have it... But i'm sure it's on the net somewhere.

Can't wait to hear the entire soundtrack :). Keep up the great work!

Hey there!

Thank you for the support! Hah, yeah, i also posted on the vgmusic.com forum, and they tend to use free soundfonts (*hiss*), and ditto to gamedev, but hopefully somone like me will be hangin' around those forums too and would be able to join up.

If you do get a chance to help out, by all means do so, more the better, but i can understand you being busy, as we all are, hehe, so if you decide to lend a hand, great!

*hiss @ soundfonts again*

Kakariko Village
Lost Woods
Gerudo Valley
Hyrule Field Main Theme

I want these if someone hasn't taken them yet. Like I said to you privately, if I have the time, I'll get em done, if not I'll have to fold. I'll let you know my progress every once in a while, but what type of time frame are we looking at? I hope its pretty casual. If its measureable in months then I should be alright.

That sounds fine for now, hehe

im taking Lon Lon ranch, Title theme, and temple of time for now.

Also, i had a few new ideas for the project, like a name, Z.R.E.O, "Zelda REOrchestrated, pronounced zee-rio, like cerial, but..yeah) just an idea, and also, when a song is done, have it available for mp3 download, and when its finally finished, offer all the mp3's but also an iso of the discs for those of us that love Isos, hehe.

NooOOo .... I worked on Kotake-Kume for a little while and then i checked back to the forum , saw the new link and it was already done.

This is what i came up with until i stopped -> It's not worked a lot but it's a shame not to share it even for the fun of it :)

*( please rename file extension to Mp3 )

Oh no, theodor, that just meant that you were working on it so no one else would take it, so feel free to continue. Unless it says "done", then its still open for work.

EDIT: jeez im dumb, i copied and pasted the wrong name as being worked on, fixed it now, am @ school and cant listen but definatly will when i get home.

Sorry about the misconception!

~FireGS

P.S., links on the other page ARE WORKING so those marked done w/ a hyperlink are finished products, as of now.

This seems like a fun project. I may try a few (I'd have to get my hands on a copy of the soundtrack first though...), but first I'm working on a piano arrangement of a FFT songs for another project. I'm really liking what I'm hearing so far though.

hey there guys,
I just made an ftp account so that you can upload your finished MP3's to the zreo temp site.

NOTE about the MP3's, have the Album title be, "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", the artist be, "Z.R.E.O. Team", and the title be the given title on the list. the filename should go at track number - name, ex. 01-TitleTheme.mp3 no spaces in the title, and use title caps.

Im not picky, i swear...

the ftp acount info is:
User: zreo@firegamestudios.net
pass: zreo

just upload it to there, and notify me here, so i can change the list.

I am glad you liked it FireGs :)

I use an orchestral set made of three old Roland sample Cd's . Even though very old, they have some very expressive samples :

Orchestral Family Vol.1 Strings
Roland Winds Vl 1
Orhestral Percussion Vol.1

Back to work, i'll try and get this ready today and Windmill Hut tommorow if nothing weird occurs ;)

Edit : Kotake-Kume is ready and uploaded. I might do a minor fix on the bassoon volume later on .

Hahaha, this thread is cracking me (in a good way). I have a particularly large soft spot for Ocarina of Time, so I may give it a shot. :)

Just in case anyone wants to hear the original -ripped- from 64 score :

http://www.zophar.net/usf/
( download the "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" USF pack, it has some other stuff too )

and

http://hcs.freeshell.org/usf.html
( scroll to bottom of page and download "64th Note v0.08" installer )

Now you can listen to all Nintendo64 USF rips on Winamp :)

Very interesting project guys! :)

I've always loved the "Ocarina of time" soundtrack. It shouldn't be a problem if someone reorchestrated the same track or what? You would get different interpretations plus someone would get to do their favourite song! On the other hand, if this project is to be completed, I guess one could do with some structure and organisation like you've already done. ;)

Has anyone considered making their mockups a bit bigger and orchestral sounding than the original music. I mean, adding a simple counterpoint melody or a cello-line perhaps to fatten up the sound, and maybe some percussion here and there to add some variations? I believe that these small alterations would improve the overall orchestral sound. Just my opinion though...

I might just see if I can squeeze myself into this project after my new rig has taken its place into my humble home-studio.

Until then,

Chris

Hey chris!

That would sound great! I'd love to hear what you could do with these songs. I think that dumplicates would be alright, especially to hear others ponts of view!

hey...

After christmas I'm going to start working on the music for a splatter-film, but I'll see if I can't find any room for the Zelda project. ;)

First of all I have to upgrade my computer, it is quite old now. I was going to buy GS3 Orchestra but I see now that I can't afford it since I would also have to buy Chickensys to translate my roland-archives...

However, I have decided to put the Giga-purchase on a hold for a while and instead I am going to buy GPO. I should also mention that you've got something to do with it, FireGS.
After hearing your "Return of the King"-mockup I was completely sold. D*mn GPO is a good library and has an rediculusly low price. And the free updates also gets me drawn towards GPO. Unfortunatly, I will have to wait a couple of weeks for it (I am not a patient guy) :( There are no copies left in Norway right now, and being Christmas and all I wouldn't trust any foreign post-service to deliver it in time before I go back to the city where I study.

Anyway, I'll keep you informed FireGS!

Merry Christmas, and a happy new year!

Chris

Just wanted to say....well done :) It's all sounding great to my ears.
It's the game series that got me hooked on games in the first place.

I know this is a little off topic but here is a little sample remix I did awhile back using soundfonts i got off the net. It's a dance freestyle version I did. I'll upload the final if you guys want it. A little sample wont hurt for now.
