ASIO Swapping, Virtual I/O, etc.

“Multi-client” usually means that the driver can be used by multiple apps, not necessarily the same outputs. The SBLive is the only card I know of that really shares the same outputs.

I don’t personally know of a way to do what you’re asking. Perhaps someone else does though.

Suppose you wished to use your PC in a live performance, and you wished to be able to \"hot swap\" the stereo analog outputs between proggies like GigaStudio, a VST Host, and stand-alone synth software, all ASIO compliant.

Is the a way to do this instantly, without loading and unloading applications? Perhaps some software exists that creates virtual ASIO outputs that mixdown to the audio card\'s analog outs.

I know Echo cards have virtual outputs, but I don\'t have Echo, I have M-Audio Delta 44.

You can\'t really share the outputs, at least not with Giga, because Giga starts to choke right away when another app grabs the same outputs. Also, some applications simply won\'t load the ASIO drivers when they detect another app using them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you had a sound card with more outputs, you could dedicate a stereo pair for each app.

BTW, Giga does not use ASIO.

Thanks for the reply. Let me clarify.

I\'ve got 4 ao\'s on the delta 44. I\'ve got Giga using all four for one particular \"custom\" instrument I use(I realize they are GSIF drivers, but still same hardware outs).

I wish to \"shutdown\" the giga outputs and reroute another app\'s ASIO outputs to the four ao\'s \"on the fly\" without having to unload giga.

Using more hardware outputs would require lots more hardware (external mixer, etc).

Even if you forget about giga for a sec...suppose it\'s a VST host (SIO) and a stand-alone (ASIO). Same problem...can\'t share. WDM supposedly offers multi-client, but ASIO seems to be the standard now.

Make sense? Any ideas?
