View Full Version : ?? GS 3 warned me that "Registration # has been updated".... ??

Did this happen to somebody else :
I changed absolutely nothing in my GS PC from day x to day y.
Yet, when I launched GS on day y, it stopped during boot-up and displayed a message like "warning : registration # has been updated. please re-register".
---
I had then to send my data to the online registration center, and to wait for the reply.
Even worse, in the meantime, GS refused to start even when I chose "cancel" in the registration process page, while it did say that I should be able to use it anyway : I actually had to wait for the new registration data and to feed GS with it for it to start working again....)
Needless to say, the "restore" data was useless, and, when trying this, I was once again politely invited to re-register.
---
I'm a bit puzzled, and worried : why in the world did this happen, why was'nt it possible to use GS during the time I expected Tascam's reply ?
---
Any information on this ?
Thanks in advance !

Strange. I had this message too, but after reinstalling my DAW.
I only removed my OS harddrive and moved it to my other computer, then installed it back in my daw in order to do a clean install. No new hardware was installed, so I'm also alittle bit puzzled.
As I did the license backup after registering the first time I had to install Gs3 several times and it worked, but now?

I had this happen one day without making any changes on my system. Giga hung when loading. After 15 minutes of nothing happening, I rebooted the machine. When I launched Giga the next time I had this message. Could not get into the program again until after I authorized it again. This issue is pretty scary if you have clients paying!

I've had this multiple times. I reregistered 3 times. Tascam even got suspicious, saying that "this isn't typical behavior for our customers".

What? Are they crazy !??!! This is ridiculous. What does a legit user do when he want to built a DAW and has to test if every component he bought is ok ?
I sometimes do some tests if I have time, so I try some new hardware ( DVD burner, Ram and so on..),therefore I have to reregister, but if TASCAM believes that this is not a typical behaviour, then they got a problem.
How does it come that a legit user is F....d yet again??? It's not surprising that
so many peoply outthere use pirated versions in order to avoid such things....

Thanks to all for your replies.
Well, it seems that this is not totally uncommon after all... I guess we might live with it,
AS LONG AS :
- Tascam are aware of the problem, and work to fix it (I'll send a support message about this to them, although I heard that support is almost non-existing)
- AND, most important, do not "get suspicious" because of a flaw in their software's protection scheme, which, for some reason, leaves us no other choice than re-registering....

I haven't had this problem, but I have NEVER been able to get the backup registration to work. . .it always tells me I have to re-register, even if I install in the same machine and have made no changes.

FWIW, I haven't had the problem, and my backup registration worked fine. I've no idea what might cause this problem.

These are the sort of things that make me hesitant about upgrading or even continuing with GS.
Kontact 2 is looking better all the time.

I tried to use the backup when I had the issue and it didn't work. Giga acted like I had change some hardware on my system and need a totally new authorization. They really need to fix this - major bug! Authorization issues are just another bug in this piece of software that seems to have way too many bugs.
Giga has been working decent for me after working around a couple bugs in it although Quicksound has become a problem since upgrading to 3.03 version. It only sees some libraries when I add them. Why it detects some and not others that were added the same day is very puzzling!
Talked to quite a few folks at NAMM who were very disappointed and gave up because of all the bugs. Also, talked to quite a few folks that said they wouldn't upgrade from 2.54 until the bugs were worked out.

I posted on this a while back and the responses were "it works fine for me...", so I'm at least glad to know I'm not alone with this problem.
G3 is about on par with other audio apps I have as far as bugs go. And granted many of the "bugs" are not bugs at all, but imcompatibilites with various things. Still, with the huge delay in the release of G3 and statements saying the delay was due to making sure everything worked correctly, you'd think it would be rock solid.
I am encouraged that they have already released a few updates, and seem to be chipping away at some issues. Let's just hope we continue seeing them.

I totally agree, it is true that software developers are making their friends (legitimate users) turn into enemies (read crack users) because of their impossible registration issues!

GS3 locked onme today. When I rebooted it now wants me to re-register. The back-up won't work, and they are closed for President's Day. So, my deadline is shot. Thanks again TASCAM!!!!

While it said 48 hours...I did get a new key in 10 minutes via email. Along with a message the I was registering a suspicious amount of times.
So I can't blame them...my project will get finished. Still screwy program issues though.

It happened many times on my Giga PC which... is not yet registered !
Absurd !
I still make some tests on it so I don’t register it yet, but it happened several times in the « 15 days for registering » period. So I’ve no choice, I restore a clear ghost and reinstall it quickly. (It takes 10 min with settings ready to work...)
I give my hardware :
CPU : Athlon 2800+
Mother Board : A7N8X-E Deluxe
OS drive : WD 80Go (8Mo)
Audio drive : Maxtor ATA 133 120Go DM+9 (8Mo) and SATA WD 37Go 10000rpm
RAM : 2x512 DDR400 Dual Channel chip Samsung
Sound card : Creamware Pulsar 2 (Master)
NIC : Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit LAN (on motherboard)
OS : XP Home ACPI SP1
GS : GS3
Others : HyperOS 2004 / MoL
LAN Switch Box : Netgear 5-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch 10/100/1000 Mbps GS105
XP optimizations
Colors : 16bit
System restoration : deactivated
Performances, visual effects : best performances checked
Performances, applications : background services checked only for Samp.
No web connections.

This is unacceptable in a productive environment.
It’s not serious for a professional use.
It’s a major bug. (And that’s why I prefer dongles...)

I started to surf this forum and found out that all issues I noted on GS3 are quite often so:
1. During registration it IS VERY EASY to turn GS 3 to un-registerable state by pushing one of two offered button. STOOPIDNESS!
2. When successfully registered GS3 for unknown reason might ask for re-registration. More STOOPIDNESS!
3. In case of any minor change on PC and especially after re-installation (example-you wish to optimize your HDD structure and move GS3 from one HDD in your PC to another HDD in same PC), functionality and stability becomes very awfull.
Common crashes and errors after re-installation:
-QuickSound crashes GS3 during initialization
-loading GIGA instruments crash GS3
-loading some VST's crash GS3
-strange error messages when installation finishes (you understand that something is wrong, but what???)
4. You are neglected by Tascam's support with no-reply or unclear replies or suspicious messages.
TASCAM IS NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY COMPANY.
They are so focused to protect their $$$ that users are pissed off completely.
And GS3 is piece of ~~~~, providing no confidence to user.
2.54 was definitely more polished product.
How to get my money back?
Dissapointed!

It simply makes Gigastudio unusable in Live.
It wasn’t necessary to lose there time to develop GSIF 2, really...
(It’s the same now with XP if we change the hardware a bit. But I don’t remember if there is a grace period before a new registering request, to make the soft still usable though...)
(Anyway those strategies are totally unacceptable... Dongles please ! Dongles !)

I thought it was outrageous as well, and I emailed them about that. They replied me with some kind of "are you experiencing problems with installing blablabla email".

Last week after not using GS3 for about a month (it installed and worked fine up until then), i went to go use it, Double-clicked the desktop icon , the spashscreen came up and then the whole thing disapeared!!! It took me about 2 hours to reinstal and get it working again. This is on a PC that has dozens of VSTi`s running though forte and v-stack all day long. I swear, if VSL was ported properly to Kontakt or some other sampler i would kiss GS goodbye. Its such a tempermental, dicey program. I`ve lost too many hours of my life keeping it stable.. Rich

Last week I got for the first time the "Registration number has been updateted, you have to register bla bla" thing, of course right under a deadline. A reinstallation didn't work, but luckily the registration process did work pretty quickly. Wasted only about one hour. This time. Who knows what/when will it happen next time??!
It's been a while since the last fix, time for a major update fixing all these remaining issues!
Cheers,
Chris

Funny...about 2 weeks ago I built a new DAW ( sold the older Daw ) so of course I had to reregister GS3.
On the old DAW Gs3 once asked me to reregister again, although I had not changed ANY bit of hardware.
Guess what did TASCAM emailed me after I wanted a new Serial number for my new DAW?
"Thank you for using GigaStudioV3-Orchestra
Your Registration Key is:
---------------------
Warning:
We notice that you have Registered a number of times.
This is not typical of our users.
Please contact our free technical support line if you are having technical problems: put email here-----"
Rant ON:
Man I really freaked out. Really at this moment I thought that if I would live nearby TASCAM I would go inside and beat the crap out of them, though I am a pacifist.
I mean, what for ,for gods sake, did I pay 419 Euro ???
Now I have to worry that if I add another sticks of ram ( which of course is my right to do) TASCAM will not give me another serialnumber.
Surely I can e-mail them...but how long have I to wait? one week, 3 weeks?
Ok I could call them but as I live in europe this could cost me to much money.
This is one of the " WORST COSTOMER SERVICE " I ve encountered yet.
A " CUSTOMER SERVICE " who lets you feel like a " CRIMINAL" !!!!!!!!
Alone this sentence "This is not typical of our users" gives me the creeps.
I hate this feeling, I paid for the software, for f.... sake.
Rant OFF
I hope TASCAM reads this thread in order to reconsider what they are doing.

Regarding the "This is not typical of our users" sentence.
What IS typical behaviour for TASCAM?
I know this is a philosohpical question, but it could be discussed.
What do you fellow GS3 users think about it?
