... but I finally plunked down the cash for GPO. The Beethoven sonatas and some of Jess Hendricks' pieces made me do it. :)

Now, how to placate the missus? I'm thinking I'll re-orchestrate a song I wrote for her when she turned 21 (and no, I'm NOT saying how long ago that was... I'm not stupid).

Anyway, here's hoping I'll have something to contribute sooner rather than later.

Since I'm a wife myself, I can tell you that it's a great idea. If it doesn't work though, you can try to play the "well look at all of the money that we spend on your hair/nails/shoes" card, and go for the guilt... you deserve it! :D

Just show her the price of the "competition". ;)

That is a good one, Alan. I only have one thing to say - "It is easier to receive forgiveness than permission!"

;) JK.

My wife is not very tech or music stuff savvy, She doesn't understand my affinity of computers, gadgets and gizmos and orchestral libraries - THOUGH - once she heard GPO in action, she started coming up with a list of my older compositions which she felt would be great to re-do with GPO. She is a musician herself, but it isn't her passion. She usually rolls her eyes at me - I am a nut.

Better still, compose something brand new for her, telling her how much better she is now than when she was merely 21. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

We shipped it out today. Thanks for supporting TCC, man - we all really appreciate it, and we're looking forward to getting you on the air!

Just tell her that this will allow the two of you to spend more quality time together... Wait. On second thought, avoid that topic completely! ;)

I Asked most of the forum members to Convince my wife about getting GPO. She gave in and seems impressed by what it has to offer. I've just mow received GPO and installing as I type. Can't wait to get started and learn this impressive program. Looking forward to give some demos when I have the time.

Hey, I'll just tell her I was quoting it from one of your earlier threads. Solidarity, brother! :)

Problem is, that wouldn't work in my case because she'd just ask me what the heck was wrong with how she was when she was 21. LOL

Yeah, I learned a long time ago that I'm just never going to be smart enough to keep up with women. Life got a lot less complicated once I resigned myself to that particular fate... http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

The secret to a happy marriage is those three little words. When she hears them, she just melts inside.

Those three magic words...

Acxtually, the way to justify GPO is very simple - show her the price of VSL and Platinum. GPO suddenly becomes a great bargain...

Same here. That's one of the biggest reasons I asked her to do the narration for Peter and the Wolf. Now she's hooked. She's so excited that she goes around telling all her friends, "We made a CD. It's going to be released in about a month." She comes up to me and says, "You know, there's this great children's story. I could read and you could write the music for…" And here I thought next I was going to do Ravel’s Raposadie Espagnole.

Be careful what you wish for. :D

Yeah, my wife comes home from shopping once and a while and after shopping sales, and I cringe when she exclaims "David, I saved us $500 today!"

Zach! Glad you have joined the musical world too (beyond the 3d world). You will love GPO.

Wow, Thanks! I guess the subliminal message Gary had me put in those pieces worked! ;)

Good luck with the wife.

My wife told me that if I bought one more musical instrument, or one more piece of software , that she was going to leave me ......I sure do miss her !.

Hi ZachBG,

Hard time to get new things on the computer as a husband. Same in "Old Europe" I got my GPO as a birthday present when I turned 40. (FROM MY WIFE). Now I got it and it seems I´m not able to work on projects more than 5,6 hours per week and live peaceful!

From Frankfurt, Germany,

Horch,

I know how you feel - sort of. Ever since I got my first computer 9 years ago, my wife (of 11 years) has been a "computer widow". :) She was very critical of the time I spent on it at first. She loved it when i could help her with school assignments and the sort, but felt a little jealous of the time I spent vs. time spent with her. And when I got music software, it just got worse! Any money I spent on musical stuffl (or ANY computer equipment, for that matter) always got me into hot water.

But - I try to make it up to her when I can. She has grown more understanding of it over the years. She knows (and knew from the beginning of our relationship) that creating music brings a deep joy to my life. And she knows that I still love her with all my heart, so I guess she has accepted or, at least, has given up trying to change me in this matter. After my musical exploits have begun to yield some monetary gain, in addition to the joy one feels when creating music, she has been even more understanding. ;) She really does like the things that GPO can do. She doesn't understand my passion for this stuff, but she doesn't have to. Acceptance for who and what we are is paramount for any successful relationship.

Jerry :)
