Hard Drive Compatability/Performance Forum

Hey,

I currently am using two Quantum Viking II\'s ULtra Wide SCSI and four Fireball 9.1 gig drives with 7200rpm and 8.5ms access time---I am looking to add some cheaper drives to the mix---does anybody have any experience using Maxtor or Fujitsu drives that clock at 5400 RPM and 9ms access time? They are a lot cheaper if they do work--any other alternatives??

Maxtor 17 Gig U-ATA works fine on my system. Sometimes slight clicks on long piano releases, but i am shure this is not a drive problem.

I have a couple of Maxtor 27 gig 5400 rpm drives. I can\'t say enough about them! They are lightning fast, have extremely low CPU usage, and at under $300 a piece are dirt cheap. I\'ve even read that with their higher data density, they transfer data just as quickly as the 7200 rpm drives. I know that they work great in my system.

I have several Western Digital drives...13 & 20.4 gigs. 5400Rpms. They work perfect and are very cheap.
