Thanks to whoever posted the link to Jamstix. I bought it and I've gotta say it's a godsend. Seriously, I HATE building drum tracks, but this thing has saved me.
The onboard sounds are okay, but working in conjunction with BFD it sounds great!

Can you get a realistic jazz swing feel? Nothing in the demo version impressed me pattern-wise (though I admit I haven't gone through many of the options...)

...2112 (the Drummer);)It plays in sync with your sequencer, whatever time signature you have set. It JAMS with you. Changes based on how you play. It ain't perfect, but it's pretty cool.
And, most importantly, it does exactly what I need it to do.

Heehee! "Like a real drummer".
Last Saturday night at my (Catholic) Church we had 13 baptisms, 12 receptions, and 25 confirmations... plus 50 first communions as a result. One of our choir members is a music major at Southeast Missouri (SEMO). And we had to do this song to cover the activity of the confirmations, so of course we did layering.
Sarah plays trumpet, french horn, just about everything. But for this song she had no set part. And so each repetition of the chorus she kept hopping between percussion instruments. Bongos. Triangle. The wood block thingies (probably called Wood Blocks). And so on ...
She finally got back next to me (on Bass Guitar), we were all done. And I leaned over and said "I thought you were a music major... why are you trying to be a drummer now?" :)

Rob,
can you post some audio traxk (Mp3) with some Jazz Grooves. Add some EQ if allows.
Dasher And I are most curious. Maybe play a blues with a swing ride Cymbal or a soft rock in 8ths on the hi-hats.

Alan RussellWill do, if I get the chance. Although it might be easier for you to download the demo and see for yourself.

Rob,
are you using Jamstix With Sonar? If so, how did you set it up to get it going in a mix.

Alan RussellSorry for the late response, I've been out of town. Unfortunately, I've been using jamstix with Nuendo. I haven't touched Sonar in a year....

Rob,
Ralph the author of Jamstix informed me that there are no facilities for Jazz grooves in program. One would have to create them in the program. He might consider it at a future date. I am still ion search of a sizzle ride cymbal for slower swing ballads. I for one will hold off in buying this Vsti for now. This also should answer Dasher's question too.

Hi Mark,
I hope to speak to a sound developer in the not too distant future about putting together a drum library a bit more focussed on Jazz (swing) which shall include a sizzle cymbal. Give it time..
