So I'm getting a tax refund... :D and I want to spend some of it on new toys.

I tend to write rather percussion-oriented stuff, and stormdrum looks to be very nice. Is anybody here running that alongside GPO? What's the cpu usage on SD compared to GPO (say, per instrument).

I'm probably gonna need to upgrade from my 1GB of memory though.

Or, I could just be sensible and put that money in savings or toward installing my hardwood floors.

I use stormdrum. It works well in tandem with GPO. You will probably need to get more RAM though. :)p.s. - Hardwood floors are nice though...:D

I like the natural maple finish. It's nice an light. Not too dark and depressing.

Although that depends on the room's style. A library might be good with a deep oak finish giving it a more warm cozy feel.

The natural maple might just be better for bedrooms and living rooms.

What do y'all think?

My cherry floors really add warmth to my space. Nice and pretty and cozy :)

I kind of like the look of bamboo actually.

Hmmm, upgrade the house, or feed my expensive hobbies... tough decisions....

From what I've heard with moviemaestro's music, stormdrum is an excellent source and mixes well with GPO. It's priced very competitively as well. Although I prefer to play in the parts live I've decided to look into it myself.

EDIT: Ooops, wrong product... ;)

But isn't it premade lines/sequences that you time stretch to your needed application? This kind of turns me off of it.

Hmm, not into that at all. I didn't know this!

I could be wrong, but that's what I thought from reading about it.

I love UNGODLY percussion, but I really don't know about premade loops.

You have a point there. But from what I gather it's is as you say. Take some loops and glue them together into a percussion/drum sequence. Regardless of my abilities at my age I think I'll stick to playing the parts in live.

Especially with the entry-level version! I've been tempted buy it, considering I've used a lot of the free SAM Giga files from their site on various projects.Argh, just realised that I'm talking about ProjectSAM True Strike! :D Great stuff.

You can have your Stormdrum. :p

ProjectSAM can take their dongle and, well, keep it. ;)

JB,
Stormdrum has both a loop library and a sample library, using Kompakt and Intakt players included. You can indeed create your own patterns via midi just as you would nay other program. All of the sounds that are incorporated in their loops are also available individually.
I got Stormdrum just last month for a project I'm working on and I couldn't be happier. Great sounds, lots o stuff!\

Good to know. Would you describe the percussion as ungodly? If not, then it aint for me. :p

Thanks Styxx you just made my day :)

About Stormdrum, for my songs, I played in all of the notes and didn't use any loops. You have the choice of each drum individually, (which is what I like to do) or you can use the loops. It's lots of fun :)

No problem and this is good information! I was afraid it was nothing but loops. Thank YOU for the update.;)

Personally speaking, It's satanic. and you don't even have to give up your first child.

I do play in some parts live... but Stormdrum can really add some, ehh, depth on top of it. I don't own a ton of percussion instruments, but I do play some unusual instruments like frame drum and berimbau, etc.

Having some big, meaty drums to back things up would be nice too.

Also, Stormdrum has some loops but that's only half of it. The other half are basically a ton of multi-velocity samples played through the included Kompakt player.

Hmmm, that reminds me... maybe Gary can come up with something like:
Garritan Personal Stomp. :D
