View Full Version : A Pat on my own Back - Composition selected for...

I recently submitted an orchestral compositon to ERM Media in a call for scores. My score, Nightwinds, was 1 of 5 selected out of over 400 scores to be on the 8th CD of their Masterworks of the New Era recording project.
I did a complete rendering of the piece this past November using GPO and submitted to a "Composers Showcase" contest in Colorado. Nightwinds was one of two selected for performance in the 2005-2006 concert series.
I wanted to submit Nightwinds in the GPO contest, but it is 12:30 long and I couldn't figure where to cut it down in time.
Thanks to GPO, I was able to produce a very good recording to present with my score. Thanks Gary for bringing this capability to us composers that don't have the big bucks!
EMR Media produces CD's of new works. They record in Kiev with the Kiev Philharmonic and the CD I heard is fantastic. Very clean recording and playing by the orchestra.

Many congratulations ChoralBoss,
and welcome to board. ;) :)
Even if my music has never been selected neither for film scoring nor for somethingelse, I think GPO is a great thing for all Musicians, starting from an amateur (like me) to professionist (as many members here and you).
If you look at its quality/price ratio, there is no other libraries.
Also I have to thanks Gary Garritan for what he has done for us.
(and we don't forget the new libraries that will be lunched from Gary -
GPO advanced - Solo Stradivari - Jazz & Big Band Collection) :) :)
I hope to hear you music very soon. I think it doesn't matter the duration.
If you ask to Mr.Gary he will know what to do. ;)
So a lot of congratulation again and best of luck for your career, ;)
just a wonderful world this....GPO world...
best Roberto

Congratulations, Ron!
It's great to hear stories like this -- not only because "one of our own done good"... but also because it speaks to just how valuable and effective a composers' tool GPO is.
Is that piece posted anywhere, Ron? Would love to hear it.

Congratulations Ron:
I'm with the rest of the group that wants to hear the GPO version of your award-winning composition. Post when you can.
I'm sure you feel like the rest of us that all the hard work that goes into producing some really good music is really worth the effort.

Congratulations, Ron!
Now your avitar is all dressed up... and has someplace important to go!
Like many of us here, I'd be interested to hear and compare the GPO version and the live recording.
Best wishes for your continued success!

Thanks for all the kind words and congrats! I am having foot surgery tomorrow and will be laid up next week. During that time I'll make an MP3 and upload it to my web site and post a URL to Nightwinds.

Congratulations Ron!
This is great news. The ERM Media Competition is a very well-known and prestigious competition.
I remember some time ago you posted your first GPO attempt with an excerpt Nightwinds and I thought it was excellent. Thanks for offering to upload an mp3 for us to hear.
You deserve more than a pat on the back. You get a free Jazz & Big Band Library when it is released.
All the best with your foot surgery. Well wishes from your forum family for a speedy recovery.

Wow! Thanks Gary. I'm speechless. Thanks for your response and kind words, but mostly THANKS for bringing the GPO capabilities to those of us that can't afford the expensive libraries!
I use GPO every week. My full time job is as a church musician. I have an ensemble of 2 flutes, oboe, 3 clarinets, french horn, trombone, piano, handbells, percussion, timpani and organ. Each week I write new hymn arrangements from the Methodist Hymnal. Eventually, I hope to publish these arrangements.
Thanks again. Gotta go get ready for the foot surgery.
