Nope, drop the "ed" and you have a word. "Fourth" ;)

Now that's a thought. ;)

Well now you've gone and spilled the beans. At this point in the market place I think it would a great idea to put GOS2 into GPO adv. because I am not so sure the market place needs just another string library. Having it in GPO adv makes for an incredible value.

I'd say that is very exciting. :)
But at this point I must insist upon a GS3 version of Advanced! ;)

This is what I predicted in my last email to Terry Dwyer. I'd love it...
I still would like that gb though.. :D
Though this gets me thinking actually - what will become of GOS once Advanced is released (which we now know is also it's successor, GOS2)? The whole of Advanced will actually be less expensive!
Does GOS2/Advanced consist of newly recorded string ensemble samples?

I think it will be a cold day you know where when Gary Garritan produces another product for a sampler/player that provides absolutley no protection from copying, such is the case with the Giga platform. Personally, I think Giga is not long for the world unless a bunch of library developers still don't are about their libraries being copied so easily. Don't hear me wrong, I really like GS3 Orchestra, but times are a changin' and they are a changin' fast.
This is just my gut feeling, but I too wish the GPO Advanced library was going to be available in a number of platforms like some libraries. We will just have to wait and see.
I wouldn't hold my breath though.
But I can't wait.... :)

Yeah buddy. If I can't use it in GS3 I'm going to organize a mob and storm the castle like they did in Frankenstein :D :D

Indeed Dan, we shall have to wait and see. :)
Regarding copy protection though, its all an illusion - cracks abound for everything. Even the dreaded dongle (or should I say especially?) protected stuff is cracked wide open - and in many cases being used by legitimate customers who refuse to deal with the bother.
But this leads into another discussion, which doesn't belong here so I've deleted the rest of this post. ;)
In the end a quality product at a fair price will always have buyers.
And Giga works in a way that nothing else does - a way that I know is necessary to get the most done in large scale projects.
So here's to the Giga version - or I'll have to join Fred and his angry mob. :n:

Hi I'm new, can someone please define "Sonar," "GOS," and "Giga."
Thank you.

Hi I'm new, can someone please define "Sonar," "GOS," and "Giga."
Thank you.
Sure!
Sonar= Cakewalk Sonar (a sequencing package)
GOS= Garritan Orchestral Strings, a precursor and somewhat big brother to GPO
Giga= Gigastudio, formerly Gigasampler, a computer based sampler, the current version being ver. 3 so you will generally see it referred to as GS3 (Gigastudio 3)
As for copy protection on a library, the very best copy protection right now IMO is sheer brute size. Trying to download a 40 Gb library on a P2P is no piece of cake. I haven't checked but I bet there are very few versions of Drumkit From Hell Superior showing up on Kazaa. Another is that esoteric things don't generally get cracked. Like GPO or Synful. And the very best copy protection is good value. Someone might be tempted to steal a $1,000 lib they couldn't afford if an opportunity arose but I think the utterly reasonable price of libs like GPO and, say, Lyrical Distortion motivate people to stay on the morally right side of things- especially when actually pirating them would be a major pain in the butt.
Beyond that I think the software industry has to face facts the way that the cable industray does- a certain degree of theft is just gonna happen; you figure out a percentage and factor it into the bottom line and the rest of us pick up the slack as a penalty for being honest. Oh well, that's life.

Please let me clean up my keyboard, working table, floor and clothes before I write my final answer. Which will of course be something along the lines of "OMFGWTHthatwouldbesogreatyesyesyesyesyesIneeditnow pleaseletitcomesoon", followed by yells of "My precioussssssss! My preciousssssss it will be!"
Gary, I am sitting here, with my credit card ready. Counting the seconds... :D

Thanks Gary!

Gary,
you have one more customer. Just tell us when...
It's like that parody of Oprah on SNL where she keeps giving away more stuff and the audience gets crazier and crazier and eventually one lady's head blows up. I can feel the gelignite stirring in my skull...

Am I the only one that thinks that will make it *too* big?
Gotta think about price-points and whatnot, and I personally like the idea of being able to pick your favorite instrument sections from different vendors... which is also a reason why I dislike libraries with the performance space acoustics "imprinted" on them!

Having purchased melodyne, I'm having a renewed love affair with GOS in gigastudio --- it's very important, imho, to be able to modify the samples, and with time and improving tools a user can get better and better at it. So, putting it under lock and key with kompakt would be unappealing for this user.
