GPO, unfortunately, does not support GigaStudio 3.0.

Dumb beginners question:

Is there a need to do this, given that it comes with the player?

giga has a very good way of tweaking the sounds....and if your used to it it can makes things easier...less new interfaces and tips tricks and compatible issues to sort out !!!

What kind of stupid ~~~ answer is that? Dumb rookie post.. This isn't a gaming forum, and if you're used to that kind of flaming get lost!!! Besides, It wasn't a DUMB question, It was a perfectly valid question, which makes you look even more stupid Ernie!

I gather you didn't see the colon signifying that the "dumb beginner" was me.

I wish that I could port GPO to Giga. I'd use it more, as I like to mix and match sounds. But... it ain't gonna happen. What I really need is a stronger second computer with a good soundcard. With Giga on one and GPO and other synths on the other, I'd be set. It's only money! :)

Have you run them both at the same time?

Yes, but once GPO is loaded, GS3 wasn't able to get much more memory for additional samples. It worked, but not all that well. Things got sloppy and unstable.

When I need an instrument that I don't have on Giga, I capture, reboot and load up GPO. It's a pain, but it's predictable. It's sad to say, but I avoid GPO simply because of the workflow interruption.

My experience has been similar. And I'm convinced that having 2 sample streaming engines on one machine running at the same time without coordinating with each other can't be a good idea. Multiple dedicated machines would be my solution too if money were no object. Only problem is I'd probably want to run GS3 on both of them... one for samples and one for GPulse. OK, 3 machines. But wouldn't 2 GPulse machines be nice? Where does it end?

Its a bloody shame - especially with the Advanced version that is going to have no end of unusual instruments, it would be wonderful to be able to incorporate those into one's work. (hint hint!)

Jon, you are far more patient than I! ;)

GPO doesn't stream to disk unless you want it too. When I use Gigastudio, it's the only thing I run. I don't have it scan the VST plugin folder.

Well, just to confuse myself more, I have a question.

If I had EWQLSO Gold Edition and GPO both on one machine and I had Kontact 2 could I mix and match those libraries so that I could use a Gold instrument on one track and a GPO instrument on another track, etc. any way I wanted to?

Also, could I have an instance of the GPO NI player and an instance of the EWQL NI player both up at the same time and assign various midi tracks to either one of them so that I could use the strings out of one and the flute out of the other, etc., etc.?

Thanks,
Tom

You can have multiple instances of GPO, QLSO and Kontakt open at the same time. I usually configure GPO to not use DFD in the player. I'll open up Kontakt and use DFD and load various instruments from GPO, QLSO, ProjectSAM, etc.

GPO does have some problems with Kontakt 2 as it was programmed in Kontakt 1.5.3. So I recommend to wait until NI has fixes for these couple issues. You can use Kontakt 2, Kontakt 1.5.3 and the players all at the same time though.

Thanks Hayden, that's really good news.

It's going to be a PITA to go from Gigastudio to Konakt ( learning curve, etc.) but it's beginning to look like that's the way to go, at least for the foreseeable future. The libraries I'm interested in are simply not going to be available in Gigastudio format. Oh well.......
