Beautiful idea! But be ready for an onslaught of posters saying things like "aren't those the types of things that producers go to great pains to avoid having in their recordings?"

I like it, though.

Thanks Bela D Media,
Perhaps producers want to minimize these sounds traditionally but, they really can breath life and realism into a faux orchestral mix. The breath sounds from your first scoring noise have come in handy when doing flute solos and the misc. ambience noise adds a great depth when used very low in the mix. Thanks for providing these tools for free. I had to get applause from Leotyne Price though... .

It is our pleasure of course.

Here is a little experiment for you to try. Play your favorite score CD and use headphones. Wait for a softer passage. Do you hear it? Do you hear all the little noises? That is what Scoring Noise is designed to achieve. Scoring Noise is the breath before the flute or the shuffle of feet on the sound stage.

Do you have a sample of the second trumpet player whispering to the first that the conductor is an idiot?

Yesterday was the first time i used these noises. I only used one of the "Bed Floor" files. Well.. i don't think i am ever making an orchestral song without these scoring noises again, especially the floor beds, i can't believe how realisting it sounds.

Not only it sounds real, it also helps composition because just playing a couple of notes here and there does not give the impression of a few samples out of digital silence . It gives the feeling that a solo instrument is playing while the rest of the orchestra is preparing or trying to stay silent. Sometimes you don't even need PPP samples, you just play FF samples in very low volume and it sounds real because it smudges with all the soft noise.

It's kinda silly how i am going so crazy just for recordings of noise, but when you drag it in a song you will know why :)

Thumbs up Frank. Thanks for these man

Well, on most instruments you would still need some kind of filter to simulate the timbre change of the instrument when being played softer. Imagine a crunchy violin part played forte but played back at a really low volume. You can still hear that the violinist is playing loud.

http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Terrific..... and 100% free... Thank you so much.

I use the "original" Scoring Noise quite often in my midi compositions... to add a "realistic" feeling to them. I'm looking forward to the new Scoring Noise 2 very much.

I have found that, when mixed into the background, it really does add to the "authenticity" of orchestral midi mock-ups. Thanks again, Frank

.Rar can compress much more efficiently, so less bandwidth and webspace. However, there are some incompatibilities with older Macs, so I've heard.

Btw - thanks for offering these Frank!

Francis, I'd suggest using bit torrent as well, or possibly instad of setting up server space.

this will allow users to "Seed" the file and could give more efficient Dload speeds. Its just another option sand mght save you bandwidth.

If the community is nice enough, and I think in this case it might be, they would seed endlessly, and requests to reseed could be posted to this board.

Hi Francis,

You can find an explanation of how bittorrent works here:

http://www.bittorrent.com/introduction.html

I think they are suggesting you look at how G-town was distrubuted and you'll probably be quite impressed - its very fast:

http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34388&highlight=g-town

Here's where they distributed it:
http://www.legaltorrents.com/index.htm

Only problem is, everyone needs to know what bittorrent is and how to use it - might requires some extra explaining (specially to the kids - no, actually to the older guys).

Do us decrepit ancients get a "How To Use Bit Torrent" lesson?

By the way, since this is Scoring Noise 2, where can you get Scoring Noise 1?

And thank you for providing this, Bela D Media. Much appreciated.

Kind regards.

Can your score noise do this:??? :D

http://cptexas0.tripod.com/id3.html

click on 'score noise'

It's just within the first 20 seconds. I wasn't able to just isolate the noise as I don't have any audio editing software or an MP3 encoder. It's a good peice, maybe worth the listen. I'm in there on cello!! :D

I hope that "Bit Torrent" won't be the only way to download the new "Scoring Noises 2."

I have never had much success with "Bit Torrent" myself.....

Of course, it might just be that I am not as "familiar" with it's operating procedures as others are. :o

You can start by downloading the bittorrent for Mac (your Mac right?)
Not sure where you PC guys get your stuff but one of the other 97% will know.

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18286

Then you download the bittorent link such as Tob's G-Town samples:
http://www.legaltorrents.com/bit/g-town-church-samples-wav.torrent

Now just open this link with the bittorent app.

That's all folks!

Isn't bittorrent what the pirates are using to download ilegal DVD's? Not that that makes the technology bad, but wouldn't it be overkill for relatively small files like we see around here?

Ok, I'm outed-- I'm an old fogey that has a hard time keeping up with new things!

Anxiously awaiting Scoring Noise 2. I am still wringing subtle nuances of expression and emotion from Scoring Noise 1! Thanks Frank!

Thank you very much in anticipation Francis.:) BTW I happened to notice that creek is used a number of times, in the pdf, as in 'chair creek' . Shouldn't all the 'creeks' be 'creaks'? As a freak I ought to know.

I think you should credit the performers of the various 'instruments'...... especially the wonderful heavy breather.

Pretty little demo Aaron. Gorgeous piece which I wasn't familiar with. Thanks.

I believe that piece is from Rachmaninoff's 3rd Concerto... . I think that scoring noise could perhaps be a product that could benefit from a with/without demo... .

I'm a huge fan of Rachmaninoff!
Ever since I was a young boy and I seen my uncle playing the C#min prelude, I've been mesmerized by Rach ever since.
The 1st mov of the 3rd Concerto is my favorite too, I prefer the bolder cadenza version, it's like a nightmare within:)

I find it really funny that-
Francis is a huge Rush fan and produces a childrens choir library,
and I'm a huge Rach fan and produces a electric guitar library

I loved the first Scoring Noise. It added such a nice touch of realism. I was really happy to see there was Scoring Noise 2. SN2 has alot more cool noises to play with and is 24bit. Fans of the first won't be disappointed

Hey G.,

Thanks for this information and the links.

I see that BitTorrent is not now going to be used for the Scoring Noise 2 downloads, but I've been trying to get hold of G-Town stuff for ages, so thanks a million for putting wheels on that :-)

I came across the G-Town website when I was still on dial-up and bookmarked it. But after I got DSL installed and went back to it, the site had closed down :-(

No doubt it is ;). Thought the first one might have some more orchestra specific sounds though (you know, instrument noises and such), since the second was recorded during a choir session. Is that right?

Sorry if this seems a bit frivolous, I've been hankering for this stuff for ages.

Many thanks Bela D!

I have said this before (and will again ;)) SN2 will have the same agreement as our Gothik Musik Box (http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35012) but SN1 is free and without restrictions. This means that a kind someone could post a link to the full SN1 and offer said link to NSS people for downloading. We cant host SN1 right now but the user may.
