hard drive cache buffer

Does anybody has any ideas on the influence of the HD buffer (typically 1, 2, or 4 MB, sometimes 16MB for so called AV drives) as an \'intermediair\' between HD and PC-ram memory?

I can buy some fast scsi drives, but they only have 1 MB buffer. Does it make a difference?
