Thanks DPDan and Brasspig for the report in a separate thread. I wanted to post last night but thunderstorms and tornado warnings brought the wi-fi down. Spectacular lightning show in Indianapolis.

New for the show - As DPDan and Brasspig point out, the impending Jazz and Big Band library is being featured. Tom has done some great demos and added new features. The response has been very positive and people seem to be very impressed.

In other news, we are demonstrating GPO working in Muse Research's "Receptor". Receptor is a dedicated rackmountable hardware unit designed to run plug-ins. As such, Receptor is the perfect platform on which to run GPO. With massive polyphony, super low latency, and with MIDI I/O and super-high-grade audio inputs and outputs built in, Receptor makes using GPO as simple as “plug in and play”. Just turn on the unit, dial up your patches and you're making music. This is great if you want to take GPO with you to a gig. You can also integrate Receptor with your computer system through an Ethernet connection.

Overture 4 is also being shown at our booth. Joseph Burrell is showing some amazing things that can be done. Incredible features and tight VST integration in Overture 4.

Finale 2006 integration with GPO is also being shown. There are also some excellent demos being show with Finale 2006 and GPO at the Finale booth.

I'll post more about these things when I return.

It was also good to meet with the industry folks- Pete and Jim from Tascam, Al and Jason from Sonic Implants, the people at Finale, Thinkware, Roland, Notion and Sweetwater. We also met with some press people.

And the greatest thing about the show- IT IS SO WONDERFUL TO MEET MANY OF THE FORUM FOLKS!!

Snorlax, Styxx, DPDan, Karl Garret, Jonny Lost and his wife Lauri, Joseph Burrell, Jerry_W, Tom Hopkins and his wife Amy, Garth, Brasspig, Bruce Smith, Kristopher and others. What an fun bunch of people. We've been eating well and laughing a lot (what do you expect when you get Styxx and DPDan in the same place?) I am looking forward to meeting more members who will be arriving tomorrow and for the GPO Indie Chowdown tomorrow night.

Having a great time. I haven't had a chance to walk the show and check out what's new. If I get a chance I'll let you know. The forum members here all say hello to the rest of our online family. More later.

Awesome news! I can't wait to hear those demos! I'll bet those saxes are going to be sweet, after all this time of trying to find expressive jazz saxophone sounds I think that this new Jazz package may possibly destroy everything else out there. The sopranino, mezzo soprano, bass, contrabass and subcontrabass saxes are going to be something completely new to me. I'm always daydreaming of how they'd sound when I'm at my job, but I guess we'll all find out soon enough. I think I'll find I have a soft spot for that mezzo soprano sax. I know it's between the alto and soprano ranges, I've been told it's a bit like the soprano but with a deeper richer lusher tone like an alto. I can't wait to hear a demo of that sax sound :D

I'm itching to know more about Advanced GPO too, always been wondering if it will be out by December...I'm sure it's a huge undertaking, but I'm really rooting for it!

Double...er...whoops make that a TRIPLE Kudos to Garritan!

As Brian_2112 once said "Set your credit cards to stun!".

Guess I'll have to put off retirement for a few more years so I can afford all this stuff.

Just took a look at Receptor and it does look interesting...we'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the update Gary!

Gary, you ARE going to post those demos, aren't you? Now that everybody at the show has heard them, isn't it only fair to let your forum participants have a taste? Please?

BTW, Gary said "Thanks DPDan and Brasspig for the report in a separate thread." I've spent quite a time looking for this but can't find anything that reads like a NAMM report. Any pointers?

If I managed to screw up the link, I think it's the one called "Hi from NAMM" by brasspig. Not sure it reads like a NAMM report yet, more like a "check-in" call saying "we're here"!

...but I'm sure BrassPig and DPDan will add more as they go along.

The 2005 Summer NAMM show ended this afternoon. Had a good show and enjoyed meeting many of the forum members.

Last night about twenty of us had a GPO get-together and dinner at the "Pope Room" at Buca di Beppo. The food was marvelous. Getting Styxx and DPDan in the same room was just nonstop entertainment. I have not laughed so hard in a long time. Everyone there was in stitches.http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Thanks Snorlax for making this happen!

The best part of the show was getting to spend time with the forum members. We have some really incredible people and getting to know them better was the highlight of my trip.

Hi folks!

WOW! That was fun!

I'm bushed. I just got back from Indianapolis. The drive home was four hours, and not bad at all.
I can't wait for this Jazz & Big Band library to hit the streets WOOT!
OK, where to start?

First, I want to thank Gary for EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE FOR US!
He is everything and more in person, as he is emailing and on the phone.
He is totally a class act! I love his hat too.

Tom Hopkins,,,,, what a gem! Your talent and gifts are nothing short of excellent. Experience is so valuable in this industry, and we are so fortunate and blessed to have you working on all of these Garritan products. It was so nice to meet your wife too.

Karl Garrett, what a treat to finally meet you. Your love of life is so vibrant. Thanks for the lesson on music theory, even though all we had time to go over was time signatures, whole notes, half notes, stems and moonbeams http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif
Maybe someday I'll get it. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Jim Williams, thank you so much for your awesome hospitality. Indianapolis' Chamber of Commerce would be so proud! Your recommendations for restaurants was great! Thanks for meeting us at the airport and showing us around. I am so happy for you that you got your new Euphonium!

Johnny Lost and your bride,...... what a fun couple you are. You are both so talented and fun to be with. Thanks for putting up with my accent. Well, actually, if you are dinking wudIam dinking, passta hotsauce!!!!!! http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Jerry Wickham, holy cow, what blast!
Dude, you can play! Thanks for sharing some of your family stories and notes with me. I wish you all the best in your bright future. What a bundle of fun you are!

Markelford, Thanks for hanging out with me checking out microphones,
keyboards and all the other goodies. You are so sharp! Thanks for all you do
for the folks in this community!

Don, (brasspig) you are too cool! Thanks for all the DP chatting.
Now I wish we would have had that cheesecake http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
It's just as well we didn't.http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Please tell your friends how nice it was for me to meet them.

Joseph Burrell, man... you are almost too humble to believe.
I wish we would have spent more time talking shop. What we did discuss was fun, and I hope you know how much I admire and respect you and your abilities. Like Gary said, "there is so much great talent among you all"
and you are a huge part of it, keep pressin' on!

Michael Styxx Salamone, OH MY WORD!
A great big smile in your general direction. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
You are hilarious and what a blessing you are with the work you do. I have much admiration and respect for you. You are a very special person!
Thank you for making me laugh, and by the way, you never did finish your bartender joke.
Grab em!

Garth,
You are so full of energy. Thanks for hanging out with all of us!
You're a good neighbor too! http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
I gotta get some sleep.
Thank you everyone for your friendship, and all the fun that you caused me to have this past weekend at NAMM. What a big family this is.

There were two other guys at the dinner on Saturday night too, but I can't remember their names, I'm sorry, but thank you guys for being with us to celebrate this Garritan family reunion!

As Red Skelton would always say....

Good Night, and may God Bless!

I second EVERY bit of what DPDAN said above! :D I wish I could have remembered everyone's name in my post in another thread Here (http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36648)

But as Gary said - it really was the highlight of the weekend!

I said this in the other post, but this seemed more like a FAMILY REUNION than just a bunch of music-related people getting together for a trade show. :)

I am totally humbled by all of you. It was just incredible to finally meet you.

Thanks so much Gary! Thanks so much EVERYONE! :)

Jerry Wickham :)

Joseph Burrell

Humble? Me? Riiiiiigggggghhhhhht...

Thanks for a tremendous time Gary, Tom, Dan (DPDan), Jerry W., Mike (Styxx), Johnny, Karl, Jim (snorlax), and others... (sorry I'm bad with names.) It was a slow show, but we made up for it by having a hell of a time and getting to know each other (which was perfect since the show was so relaxed.)

I had such a wonderful time. It was nice to finally meet everyone. It was also nice to be humbled by such talent. I felt kind of awkard since I'm probably the least musically trained out of all the people there at the show. What I know about music you could put on the head of a pin and still have room. But everyone made me feel ignorant and stupid *cough *cough, I mean welcome, so it all worked out okay in the end. :D

But whatever you do, don't get DPDan started on Monty Python.

Hi Folks - Thanks for the informative report Gary.

Wow, I am really intrigued with the RECEPTOR but its price may be prohibitive to the GPO users here. List is something like $1599 or similar.

I'm pretty sure that most of the computer-knowledgeable folk here could build a GPO-worthy PC for about ˝ that price including MIDI interfaces and soundcard. Any chance of a GPO-only model, sorta like GPO's marriage-lite to NI?

MAN'S NUT'S ... GRAB 'EM! :D

Where the heck do I begin? How's about the beginninz? First, I would like to thank Snorlax for picking me up and tiring me out trying to keep up with him out the airport terminal Friday! I mean, this guy has to be about 6'2" and legs longer than the state of Florida and here I am 5' 6" trying to keep pace! Wholly molly I was sweating 3 minuets before we even got out of the terminal! Ha! Ya know I'm only joking Professor Jim! Thanks for being so thoughtful and helping me out. (Are you sure you live there?);)
There is so much I would like to tell about my experience and I will in parts to come.
In a nut shell (OK, so there's a lot to be said there) all the people from the forum I met over this wonderful weekend have made me one of the happiest people around! It was as if we knew each other all our life's! Like friends who grew up together suddenly met for the first time in years! I cannot believe how absolutely wonderful every one is and how genuinely from the heart it was. We laughed, reminisced about movies we loved, sang together and just had the best time ever! I'm rambling sorry, yes the NAMM show being my first was quite an experience. I am looking forward to the next and the possibility of meeting more people from this forum!
I will close for now with a big thank you to the greatest person I am sure who is at the top of everyone's list, Mr. Garritan. Whom without his dream of a Orchestral Library, I would have never known anyone of you. Yes, the NAMM show was interesting but it would have been just another place to spend a few moments walking around if it hadn't been for all the forum people Gary brought together this weekend.
Now, if you'll excuse me I am running a bit of a temperature and need my Theraflu medicine thank you vewy muchsk! Yeah, got sick on the way home. Must have been that big huge lady who sat next to me on the express flight from Indi! My god! The plane was going around in circles for 20 minutes until the flight attendant asked her to sit in the middle seat! :D
What a weekend ('ey guys and girls?)

Thought I'd do a quick post about just now arriving home from Indianapolis. We had a fine time meeting and talking with all of you. Hope we can do it again sometime soon. As an aside: These guys did more than just visit, they actually ran the booth much of the time (and did a better job of it!) In the future, I think Gary should turn everything over to them and he and I will just clean up candy wrappers and soda cans.

Tom

P.S. I'll try to check threads from the last few days and see if any of the usual technical questions require replies, but I'm running on about 2 hours sleep right now so the answers will come later.

Here's my $0.02...

I'm glad everyone had a good time in Indianapolis.
It's very sad, though, that Styxx's legs stop at his knees and prevent him from walking at a normal pace!!

These few days really hammered home to me the PERSONAL part of "Garritan Personal Orchestra." The ladies and gentlemen there were incredibly talented and their talent was matched only by their modesty and their interest in, and support of, everyone else's activity...

I sat in awe as Gary asked everyone at our table at Buca to give their "GPO History."
The computer and music skills of these people are beyond belief !

I sat in awe at the "never ending joke" of Styxx. The punchline never did arrive, did it?

DPDan...Do you divide or multiply?
Tom...What about the squawks and growls?
Styxx...Hope you grow some...just WHAT do you do with those finger drumsticks, anyway? What IS the punchline?
Laura...did you get your analysis done?
Jerry...how 'bout that degree? Great lookin' kid!
Gary...Now you LOVE thunderstorms, eh?...
JB...Where did you hide the bodies of the Finale guys??

I'll end as I started...now I really see the PERSONAL part of GPO...it was a great 4 days...

PYXX OF STYXX AND THE OTHERS WILL FOLLOW SOON...

The kids' nuts. .. .. .

Once again I have to thank Gary for getting us to NAMM and to he and Jim (Snorlax) for the fantastic choice for dinner Saturday night. The atmosphere was great (where we could be our LOUD-selves). The food was scrumptious. Somehow I managed to survive the Italian restuarant without ruining my South Beach diet. The folks. . . well . . . hard to describe. I will just have to echo everyone else's posts and say that it felt like we had been close friends for years. Even though I'm a relatively new member (here since November I believe), I was treated as one of the crowd. I definitely feel like there's such great support here for all of us and a superb panel of musicians/computer technicians that we can and do use as resources when we need help. The optimistic tone of our forum, I believe, inspires us to work harder and develop our skills to a further degree than what me might have otherwise without the forum.

Thank you all for such a great trip!

I do have a few photos (even though they were taken with my smaller digital camera.) They were dark, but I've tried to rescue them the best I can. I'm hoping to see more photos at least from Karl, Snorlax, and Tom, who I remember seeing with cameras! I'm not sure how to post the photos here, so I'll send a link to a separate site. If anyone can help me and get those up here, I sure would appreciate it.
www.pbase.com/brasspig - then click on the GPO at Indy NAMM folder. Not too much there. . . .just 10 photos.

On the way home, we stopped in Louisville (for Rick's son Todd to see the Louisville Slugger Factory/Museum and took a little detour to Morehead State University (where I received my BME and MM degrees.) It's exciting to see the old campus. Nonetheless, we (Rick, Todd, and I made it home safely Sunday evening.

Brasspig

P.S. Gotta gotsta getsta my hands on that Jazz Library. Wowzahs! Keyclicks on the saxes, so many options on the vibrato. I can abandon my quest for the holy triple C (on trumpet) now! I'll take the oath to try not to be too obnoxious with the Scream Trumpet. But . . . . it sounds so good. . . and I don't get a hernia when I play those parts on GPO. :)

Well, I just got back from California this morning. (We were supposed to get back last night, but our flight was delayed because of those pesky thunderstorms  )

We had a great time in California, including a couple of days in the Napa and Sonoma valleys where we bought some great wine!

Still, I'm sorry I missed the get-together at Buca Di Beppo, one of my favorite places to eat in Indy. I'll definitely be there for the next one!

From out of nowhere, Gary pulls out a puppet.

When we arrived at the show, he also had party favors for us all, a kazoo and a really good candy bar for everyone. What a guy! :)

Here's some un-captured folks thus far, though I forgot their names and forum identities! (heck, I'm bad with names *and* faces...)

And sorry for the crapulent photo, but my camera wasn't coping well in that environment (wrong flash/shutter settings: oops!).

Looks like you guys all had a great time! Too bad I had to miss it. JB man, those bags under the eyes, you have to get some sleep!

It was fun seeing a few people wearing the GPO t-shirt. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Tom, looks like you and Amy had a lot of fun, I can't wait to hear some stories next time I call.

Oh and Garth, how many flashlights do you have left? ;)

Good seeing Gary and Tom (both of whom I've met before, of course) and meeting Joseph.

And what a thunderstorm that was Thursday night!

Still reminiscing over the fabulous time we had at NAMM.

Thanks again to all of you who made the trek and weathered the heat. This will be a time to remember.

Gary
