should orchestra samples be in stereo

when doing a arrangement and panning the samples to try and simulate a real orcestra should the samples be in stereo or mono, what about say just strings,

It depends on the nature of the sample library. If the samples are recorded in stereo, stick with the mix that preserves the stereo richness of the samples. Otherwise, the samples may sound anemic.

You may have to be more attentive to panning your samples with a library like VSL than with EWQLSO.

If the samples are mono, then you will have to use panning creatively.
