Just in case you\'re upgrading/building a GigaDAW:
An article at www.storagerevoew.com (\"http://www.storagerevoew.com\") shows that disabling AAM on the Western Digital Caviar WD1000BB-SE makes it the fastest ATA HD ever, and this by a LARGE margin.

For kicks I thought I\'d run the IBM feature tool on my IBM 60GXP drives to see what mode they were in. I have one of these drives on the mainboard controller, and one on a Promise ATA100 controller (non raid).

The feature tool locked up my system hard (couldn\'t cntl alt del). No damage done, but caveat emptor if you\'re thinking of trying the tool...
