I had this CRAZY dream last night that a thread was started here on NS where you would post a picture of the gas station signs to watch the prices go up. Well, on the thread the highest price was lower than the local prices, so I went off with a digital camera and found a gas station and took a picture. Then I took a few others of closed gas stations and stuff like that. Then I started noticing that because of gas shortages, it was found that pigeons can be used just like gas, so all these gas stations had pigeon tanks filled with pigeons. Except, each pigeon was a penny, so you can fill up your tank for very cheap!! Then I went to my friend's house and somebody bombed the living room when nobody was in it.

Weird, huh? :D

Today was the first day back to school for my 13-year-old son, who dreamt that he was working at a desk next to an elevator. His job was to turn on the elevator switch, when people arrived.

After a while a whole mob of people came, he turned on the switch, and the elevator alarm bell sounded. He couldn't turn off the switch because of all the people gathering, but he couldn't figure out why the elevator alarm was buzzing either.

Finally, he woke up - and turned off his alarm clock. It had been buzzing for ten minutes. ;)

:D Dreams are so strange! I hate those dreams when the alarm clock becomes part of the dream . . . it doesn't help wake you up! My favorite dreams have got to be the ones in which there is beautiful music playing, unfortunately I can never remember it when I wake up. :( During the summer, I woke up in the middle of the night and found out that I had left my Star Wars CD playing, but the music helped me fall back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, I discovered none of my music had been turned on, and the music I heard during the night was definitely not Star Wars. It was a dream! Oh, if only I could have recorded that beautiful music. Argh!! I also love those dreams in which I can fly, and nobody else can seem to fly as well as I can. :D Up, up, and away!

Lately I've been having these terrible anxiety-based dreams (probably because college just started), in which one of my siblings becomes evil and makes me really mad. Those are so annoying! I don't want to be mad when I wake up, especially at something that never happened!

During the summer, I had a terrible dream in which I somehow acquired a violin, and was magically quite the virtuoso on it, but it broke, and I kept trying to play it, but it never sounded right. It was horrible!

I used to think that I occasionally dreamed finished, original pieces, until I heard a recording that was exactly what I'd dreamed. My musical memory is far better when asleep, which is kinda cool, but not like having a first-class composer on the staff.

Why do I have them? Am I weird to have them? Or not to have them?

Are you especially creative? Do you have an imaginative personality? People with these characteristics (poets, writers, musicians, painters, graphic designers, etc.) are more likely to have flying dreams than the average population.

And also this.

Whatever the flying dream, the timing of the dream is likely to signify mental recovery and the realization of a learning experience. They usually follow episodes of depression or intense periods in your life. Even when the dream flight is to escape danger it shows that your psychological state is on the way up, you have found a solution and you are dealing with a change in yourself or a change in your life!. It is all good!

You did say school was starting again!

Tom
Wow! That's pretty cool! http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I haven't had a good flight dream in a while . . . I wonder if that's a bad sign . . . I'm losing control! http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I remember one night, either after college or high school had ended, I did fly to escape danger. And it was a beautiful night to fly over the landscape, and see the reflection of the sky in the lake, and hide in the trees from people that were chasing me for no reason . . . http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Who knows, maybe I'll get another one tonight! :D

I have had Monkey Island music play in my dreams, but usually I can't tell if it's original or not since I can't remember it. I can remember the texture of it, how it flowed, the mood of it, but the specific melodies always escape me. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif Perhaps if I ear-trained more, it would be easier. But music of my dreams is more beautiful than anything I have ever written. It's kind of nice like that . . . it gives it a sense of mystery and wonder. It comes and goes, and when it's gone, you'll forget all about it, and it seems unreal. http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Of course, you could always try that "lucid dreaming" thing, where your brain becomes aware that it is dreaming, and then you can do whatever you want in your dream. That always seemed like fun, but I could never get it to work. I got it once, but woke up immediately. Might be fun to try to write (and remember) music in that state :D

Ok, well since we're on the topic of weird dreams, maybe someone can help me figure out what this one meant...It was 2 nights ago and had to do with a white bat (the animal kind) that kept following me everywhere...it was a little creepy... Any ideas?

That's easy. The bat was obviously anemic and needed a pick me up. Did you check your neck? :D

You want to hear creepy?
For several months in 2001, I had a reoccurring dream for four nights that puzzled me to no end. I was back in my old house (of which we need not elaborate right now) and woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of whinnying overhead. I would find myself looking out the back dinning room window to the back yard when from overhead a jet airliner smashed into the field. I would awake at the moment of impact. Still to this day I can see it in my minds eye and hear the sounds of the impact.
Since after that year it has been a memory and nothing else. I think I would have rather had the white bat! ;)

Yikes, that is creepy! I had a similar dream in which I was looking out the window and saw car flying through the air (from nowhere, it was just floating through the air like it had flubber in it) and crash into a building.

I've also had "big sky" dreams, in which the sky is filled with some giant planet, like Jupiter, or the moon is just really big, or there are multiple moons. And the sky changes really fast, as if Jupiter was headed directly for impact with the earth, or the moons were about to crash with each other. Really weird. Perhaps I've been watching too much Star Wars.

Although yours is more creepy, because it was recurring . . . that doesn't happen often . . . at least not to me. Those things are really weird.

YIKES! Styxx, you definately have me beat in the creepy department!! I guess that I'll count my blessings...my scary creepy white bat is in no way as disturbing as those recurring dreams that you were having  If I were having dreams as scary as those, I'd probably need therapy!! :)

I had a dream that Hilary Clinton and I were going to make love(YUK!!). She was leading me around by the hand in a neighborhood of old houses looking for the right spot. We went into a house and there was Newt Gingrich dressed up in a tutu. He was being very friendly.

Snakes for me.
About once a year, I would dream it was "snake day", a day set aside, of course, to host hundreds of snakes in our house. Let me tell you, that was quite tense.
We accepted the fact that we had snakes on snake day, but it was hell getting down the hall.

Many years ago I used to have dreams about seeing the space shuttle blow up or crash. Then, on February 28th, 1986, I met the woman who soon became my wife. That was the same day that the shuttle blew up after launch. I've never had that dream since...

Let's see...I've had SOOOO many reoccuring dreams. Which one sticks out?

OK got one

I'm playing in the front yard with my friends kicking a soccer ball or something around back at my dad's house in TX when suddenly this red car (looks like a sports car, maybe a camero?) jumps the curb and tries to run me over. He keeps chasing me and I keep running and finally I get inside. Then what do you know? There's the car bashing through walls!! Then this starts to become a game of hide and go seek. Eventually the car goes away and my dream comes to an end.

My grandma has this reoccuring dream that's very weird. She says that there's two pieces of parchament paper held up parallel with a string connecting the two in the middle. The string has two weights that move back and fourth randomly. Each weight stays on it's own side of the paper. When both weights touch the end or each other at the same time something absolutely terrible would happen. So my grandma's just there in some world watching these two weights all night and then they would get closer, and closer, and closer, and closer while her adrenalin starts pumpin' and then move away from each other. Then when they finally touch or touch the ends she wakes up with quite a scream. Very scary. :n:

I'll think of more I g2g

Well, since I just woke up, I remember my dream, well at least the last part of it . . . I was here at George Mason when we're told a hurricane is coming, but there's not enough time to evacuate. So we all head for this building that never existed before and line up in the halls. I see my friends and teachers from high school and elementary school there. My past teachers set up orange traffic cones in the hall directing people where to go. We are constantly ask to move back to create more room, but it's simply too crowded. We finally reach one part of the hall that one of my friends from high school has decided to blockade for himself, and somehow he has a big strong security gaurd working for him so I can't get by. Meanwhile the rest of the crowd behind me is getting mad that I don't keep moving back. Argh! Then I woke up.

The Dream is always the same.

The walls are mirrors, there is grass growing on the floor, and the soft trill of crickets somewhere nearby. I am asleep. I awaken, and drift/walk around for a while watching people in my apartment. I know them, they know me, but I don't know their names.

They start to dance in this hopping, twirling way that makes me want to run, cry, hide. I realize I'm in a large dance club, and am myself doing this same dance, but the people in my apartment are gone, and the denizens of this dance club are beautiful, smart, strange, exciting. The dance is still scary, but less so, and it seems to be a means to an end, not a dance any more, really. I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm not afraid.

There is a girl trying to talk to me, and she seems like she's going to give up soon if I don't answer, so I try, and she stops dancing when I speak, and the music stops, everything goes dark, everything stops. The girl is gone, but I spend the next couple hours looking for the source of the music - I can't find it, but I really, really need to find it. I hear the exciting party people behind doors, but when I open the doors, they're not there - or more accurately, they are there for a split second, but they blink away.

I'm left with a feeling of bittersweet loss, and an itchy/ansty need to find that music, or the people, and I wake up.

Usually I try to get back to sleep to continue the dream, but it never works.

I figure I may as well join in. I've had some weird ones for sure but I'm not sure I've reached the point of creepy that some of you have reached. But I've had some really funny ones......

When I was younger apparently I did some sleep walking. One night my mother woke me up (younger as in like 13!) and I was banging on the wall. She said I had woken her up cause I was screaming at the top of my lungs "I can't get this hole drilled in the wall... I can't get this hole drilled in the wall". That was odd...

On another occassion when I was young (again, around 13) I had been planning a fishing trip with my grand dad the next day. Being the young excited whipper snapper I was (then) I spent several hours the night before sorting through all my tackle. Apparently I left my tackle box open, not something uncommon for a teenager, and in the middle of the night my mom heard me once again making a huge noise. She came in my room and found I had rolled out of be and hooked myself in the tummy with none other than my favorite lure. Apparently it catches large mouth bass and me! She woke me up and it took hours to get that hook out... if I recall I didn't go fishing the next day...

But by far one of the funniest dreams I had was in college (about 8 years ago). I was in conducting class, and being a comp student I spent most of my time awake, not asleep. So mornings were very difficult for me. I often would sleep through my alarm...sometimes for hours. It got really bad so I had 2 or 3 alarms set, and I'd still sleep through them. One day one of the guys in my hall decided he'd help me out a bit, so when my alarms went off he came in and cranked Beethoven's 5th as loud as it could play. He thought for sure it would wake me up. Instead Beethoven's 5th simply entered my dream. I dreamed I was conducting it, and instead of waking up, I conducted the entire symphony, all 4 movements. At the end I finished conducting it and no one clapped... I turned around to see why no one was clapping and I met my cell block dorm wall.... then I woke up.

That actually seems like an awesome dream! Did you get to count it as practice hours? It would have been really bad if they had played the symphony from a vinyl record that skipped . . . :D

One of my faves: I was in a theater watching a movie, and also a minor character in the movie; the viewpoint shifted back and forth. It was a fairly dull King Arthur pic, until my heel started spewing stuff, and the hero said, "It is a virus from outer space. We must stop it, or all humanity will perish." Back in the theater, I thought that would be a good thing, as the movie would finally end. That's just what happened, and it only took a few seconds of film to make the point. After a second of darkness and silence, silly, fast calliope music started, and they ran the credits for the end of the world. The sun and planets appeared as themselves, God got major billing, and millions of names flew past in half a minute. Back in the theater, I was laughing my head off.

I had another one of my recurring dreams last night:
I'm back at college, and I simply cannot figure out what my schedule is. I've got a feeling I'm late for class, but I can't remember where or what it is. I'm walking/running around campus trying desperatley to find my class or my schedule. I can't remember when I've last been to any of my classes, but I think I've got a test in one of them. And there's always a feeling of "I haven't really needed to go to class because I know the material already".
