Always did make music. Even as a toddler I was plunking away at the piano. I seem to be hardwired for it. Sure, I can do other things but it just doesn't feel the same - even considered going into medicine but realized I can't stand the sight of blood! Oh well, back to making music...

I'm working on being rich and famous so that I can then get back to making music. :)

Worse yet, there are others that wonder why I bother trying.

oh come on Markelford :)

I think making music is something that is very good for the soul.
Now, whether it is good for anyone else's soul, that's just OT (off topic)

I type "off topic" because I didn't know what the heck OT meant for a long time. :)

Well that pretty much sums it up for all the rockers that I used to hang out with. :)

Silly me. I thought it was band leader's shorthand for starting on the pickup notes of a waltz.

Okay, On Three, boys... :)

I make music because sometimes I get bored with what other people write and I change it (usually make it worse :p ) or just write my own. Just for personal listening, because I REALLY like listening to music!

I have a similar drive for writing music. I don't write to make any great artistic or philosophical statement - others do that far better than I. My writing is actually very sporadic because I do it for my own enjoyment. When I feel something, I write. If others enjoy it that's great, but I do it just for the joy of expressing my feelings.

Another thing that helped with my writing is a decision I made years ago. I gave myself permission to write bad songs. Up till then, I had lots and lots of unfinished pieces because I couldn't come up with anything "good enough" to finish the song. Once I quit caring about whether or not it was good, I started finishing songs. Some are better than others, but at least I was completing the tunes. And of course, I just didn't play the bad ones for people. :)

I want to leave something behind besides old photgraphs when I'm gone.
I think music is the purest expression of the soul there is.
And, of course, I want to be famous. :)

Thought OT was off track -- as in betting?

I cannot consider myself a music maker as much as a music assembler. My dexterity has never met my mind's ablity to run ahead. Much of my work has been putting together other people's product in some semblence of order for variety/dramatic venue and acts. Very occassionally I got to "compose" rather than assemble.

I got rid of my hardware rigs about 6-7 years ago - and discovered the new virtual instruments of computer assembled music with my own Virtual Orchestra starting with Garritan and Garagebend. Now I treat my iMac G% as a TOTAL intergrated VI that is harder to learn to play than any previous instrument that I have known.

So I started back into music again to prove that even we who are handicapped by little musical dexterity on the real-time world can bring together beautiful and unusual works in virtual time(almost infinite) and hopefully find an audience via the virtual community of the net.

I am 65 - and had one melody running in my mind unfulfilled since I was 14. I had plans to compose and write the libretto for a virtual orchestra opera 20 years ago when I become involved with E music. Now the tools are available in my computer and samples to solidify those plans...if I can afford them.

Why am I in music as a dislectic, uncoordinated and mildly intellegent person? Because it helps me dream and keeps me active in pursuing the dream -- not of fame and fortune -- but with the happiness music brings.
