Has anyone tried using one of those external Firewire/USB 2.0 hard drives with the 16mb cache for streaming? Need more space and some backup real-estate. I think Kays mentioned this earlier, just wondering if anyone has tried it.

Thanks,

…2112:)

Hi Brian

I use both, but only with 8mb cache, and both seem to work for me. Where are you seeing the 16mb cache drives sold?

I've been using a usb 2.0 hard drive for some time now, and it works swimmingly... Mine also just has an 8 meg cache...

He Alex? (2112)

My entire studio is running on USB 2.0. They smoke. They are slightly faster then Firewire and less expensive.

Im using the Maxtor Touch II 300g external drive 16m cache. Using Firewire 400 on laptop, which has better sustain rate . Works great w/ EWQLSO Gold!

What's the DMA situation with USB drives? I always assumed they weren't DMA'd. If they work in a DAW situation I must be wrong.

Will this also work with Kontakt 2 streaming piano sounds? I would love to use my laptop for this.

There is also FW800, which is faster.
