Intel Chipsets?

Howdy!

I've been having a problem with my CPU spiking every two minutes, causing sputtering in audio when this happens. I read a post on the RME website that said this is not uncommon with Dell 8400s with the Intel 925X chipset, which is what I have.

I suppose I need to get a new motherboard, but am unsure which one to get for a DAW. I've read that the Intel 875 chipset is good.

Any advice?

I'd be taking a good look at the new dual core processors. The AMD Athlon 64 4x00 duals are turning in good DAW performance numbers (http://www.adkproaudio.com/benchmarks.cfm).
