Sounds quite interesting. I once owned the AO library but sold it 2 years ago as I wasnīt too much into orchestral instruments at that time. The library is a bit outdated but still sounds very good (and you get smart violins as well in additionTotal Piano!!). Sounds like a good deal to me. Could be a tough competitor for Kirk Hunterīs Emerald library.
Good times for customerīs though. Now I got enough stuff for my christmas wish list...

Does anyone have any info on how "complete" this package is? Have they cut down on anything? Velocity layers - dynamic crossfading? I'm trying to figure out what I should buy with all these options popping up all the time :)

Rico

Smart Violins seem to be a big collection of phrases (recorded to click track for accurate tempos) that you piece together to form lines. Sounds good.

Itīs quite amazing that there arenīt more comments on this new release. But maybe currently there are just too many interesting releases (just thinking of Kirk Hunterīs Emerald library (which maybe even better as K2 version)

It's probably a very very new release. The upgrade version from Advanced Orchestra is a nice deal. But I would not upgrade for something only a little better than the Giga version.

Well we'll surely see reviews and comments in the coming weeks.

GPO Advanced
Kirk Hunter Emerald
Kirk Hunter Sapphire
EWQL Platinum (+pro)
EWQL Gold (+pro)
EWQL Silver (+pro)
Opus 1
Opus 2
VSLO
Edirol Orchestra
Mach 5 Orch (MOTU?)

Help me out here... Am I missing any?

Not to mention the various Akai, Roland, etc CD's
And the Korg, Roland, etc sound expansion cards for hardware.

Those of you that own multiple orch libraries do you use them all? Do they blend well? Is this market reaching a point of saturation? It's a great tiime to be shopping for orchestral libraries!

All the very best,

Darren

Sonic Implants
Synful (does that count yet, it's only solo instruments...?)

Surely you can't count each product from each manufacturer, otherwise the VSL list would be lengthy on it's own? Opus 1 + 2, First Edition (now discontinued) Pro Edition, Chamber Strings, blah blah...

To answer the Q above on how well libs blend together.. I'd say they work out pretty well. I usually mix Opus 1 with True Strike and SAM brass. Epic Horns has a much more intense, fuller sound than SAM Horns.. but SAM Horns is good for certain things.. it has a warmer tone to it, and is more "rounded at the edges." Opus 1 trumpets have more bite to them than SAM Trumpets. For intense passages using trumpet staccatos, Opus 1 is the way to go. Each lib has its strong points, and sometimes you're just looking for a different sound. I don't care much for True Strike's celesta.. but the Opus 1 celesta is incredible for soft stuff, sounds just like the one in the Harry Potter soundtrack.

But all of this mixed together sounds fine.. it sounds like it's just all one library.

the new siedlazcek-plugin looks (and sounds) like something i'll need to be sitting on top of my christmas-table of presents given from me to myself :-)

oh, and from the sound of it it looks like it should blend well with the EW libraries... to answer the initial question (and to get my post-count up so i can finally post some attachments, darn it). ;)

Anyone has an idea how the Siedlaczek library compares to Kirk Hunterīs Emerald library (which would be my current favourite to complement GPO). Iīm looking for some more intimate stuff, but I think both libraries supply those.
Any opinion by the orchestral "affinados"?

..Yes, EMU now has "Modern Orchestra" (not from Seattle Symphony sessions but Kirk Hunter also I thinkhttp://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif).

I own the original AO (and "Upgrade 97") and while it still has a few very useful things in it, I would be VERY surprised if it could compete with any of the Kirk Hunter libs.

It would be nice to have it in a VSTi plugin with some better multisampling, but I have already bought the retread of my old Miro library (NICE one!) in a nice plugin and I would not spend anymore such libs if it's the same old AO samples.

Too bad Siedlaczak didn't continue with the great sound of his earlier effort "Orchestra". That massed string sound is still great and the orchestra is still useful imo. I have done my own 'remastering' of the original library and it sounds quite nicehttp://www.northernsounds.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

I still use the Siedlaczek English Horn from my Akai sample discs but I like its reediness (is that a word??). Many libs really fall down on that particular instrument in my opinion. There are a lot of great sounds from that lib in fact.
