Here is a clip with x-factor! (http://www.postpiano.com/howland/guess.mp3)The composer did his best to explore the quartet, touching Col Legno and Pizzacato in a piece that has both Bartok and Haydn influences.

Any idea what the library is that was used?

Easy! It's 'Der Michiel Post Quartet in Full Surround', your up and coming sample library.

No, sorry. I have no plans to do key-less instruments.

What is x-factor?
The sustained notes have invariant vibratos......

The 'x-factor' is a sort of hype statement of the Dutch Idols jury.. It means that a artist with a x-factor has charisma, performance quality, the looks etc. to become a (international) popstar. Someone else who can exactly sings the same but lacks the so-called x-factor, will forever stay a local celebrity :)

It sounds really nice.

1) A trial copy of Garritan's new Strad library
or
2) VSL Solo Strings

That's a really great piece! I hear Stravinsky in it too, which isn't all that far from Bartok I guess.

It's not any library, it's real. The only things that make me question that are that the 2nd vln pizz attacks at the beginning *could* be the same samples twice in a row, the cello could be sucking in the legato section near the beginning, and its dynamics a little later could be a little abrupt on a couple of notes.

But I just don't think those are samples. Or maybe it's real first violin and the cello is Synful.

Whatever it is, it's frikking great playing and writing.

This is the correct answer - check out the demo page.

It is samples.... As has been said already. I listened to both this demo below and the link above and they're exactly the same.

Well, at least on the computer-grade speakers I heard it on, there's absolutely nothing that gives it away. Congratulations to Antongiulio Frulio.

And itīs ONLY $3311.10 :)That's reasonable considering that it includes samples and...samples. I don't want to pay three grand for samples! Well I have but not all at once. Panic attack!

Way out of my range as a non-pro musician but it really sounds good. Tough choice for the sample affinados these days.......

Two Grand!! Bah. I could get that sound with GPO and other stuff I already have for a tenth of that (with the exception of the slides, those would be tricky.)

In fact, I work with live string players that would record it for $50 a piece.

The library is obviously very good, but it's the skill of the operator that really makes that piece.

Hmmm...I'd think you could get within 75-80% of that sound with GPO. It's that last 25%--pristine recording, hall ambience, mixing flexibility, variety of dynamics and articulations--that cost the big bucks. GPO's a great lib, but duplicating the level of realism there would be just about impossible.

That's why I threw in "and other stuff" :D I agree with you but I don't think it's $1,800 worth of difference. Also I think the sonic morphing instruments are going to radically change the playing feild, depending on how long it takes to realize all the string family.

Well there are always the Silver ($206) or Gold ($696) versions, too. Platinum isn't the only way to get into ProXP.

I also have to ask how much you people think a huge, professional orchestral library should cost.

ArsNova

Nick,

I think if you're fairly well along in your career then the current highend price is acceptable.

Other than that. The Gold and the opus 1 will really be all you need to get a professional product. And, those are affordable for everybody if you really want it.

So, I actually think these libraries priced as is are a bargain really.

Fair enough. I was just reacting to the raised eyebrows about the price of this library, which is essentially in line with the other huge libraries. To me they're all a bargain, frankly.

Excellent results!

But you could always use this and it would probably sound much better.
