Don't know if this has been mentioned here before, but I just got a press release from NI regarding their new integrated sound system, KORE:

when was V-stack discontinued?
it's never been easy to get (element5 online sales only) but unless there is something I don't know you still can purchase it:
http://shop.element5.com/product.html?productid=528828&cart=1&sessionid=325621442&random=8c46259a6ce2c548c13a8c2ad0d94fd2
... if you mean that the code is dead on the other hand you're right (but who cares).
still one more simple host is always good news in my book.

I'm confused. Is KORE just a s/w based host with a nice h/w interface or does it actually host the VSTs on the h/w as well - to reduce processing power on your host PC/MAC?
Anyone who's seen it at NAMM please can you let everyone know?
TIA

this is great news - perhaps we'll finally get a cpu efficient app for running multiple instances of K2 - vstack is servicable, BUT it doensn't speak MIDI clock - I'm sure NI will put this in Kore, given how many of their plugs track tempo - it make the poss of hosting a few VIs that track tempo info on a seperate computer from our main sequencer - pretty cool.
Did anybody see it at Namm??

Last year in a thread about VST hosts I said:
"I'm really surprised that a company like Native Instruments doesn't come out with a VSTi host. I would imagine if a company like that came forward and made a good looking, easy to use, VSTi host with a Rack-like interface they could sell a ton of copies."
I'm glad they were listening! :)
I just hope that NI takes their time and releases this when it is stable and with no major bugs. I was bitten by GuitarRig 2. I bought it when first came out, in early Dec. and it was completely unusable on a Mac. The drivers for the RigKontroller simply didn't work. They released new drivers and update last week that have ironed out most of the bugs but the RigKontroller still won't write automation!
It happens far too often that software companies announce a new product with great hype, release it too soon and have paying customers beta test their product for them. Hopefully, this won't be the case with Kore.

NI is one of the most annoying companies going because their software is BRILLIANT and often very forward thinking, yet they have some of the worst tech support in the world.
From now on, I'm only going to buy their stuff once I know its stable, I can't take chances on buying software from them as soon as it comes out. Their track record is just too poor, hopefully in 2006 they'll change this!

Agree that their products are brill though...

Whenever Logic crashes, I can often trace it back to some NI-based product....they really should stop innovating for a while and make their products as stable and friendly to use as others (such as Spectrasonics in particular).
The Kontakt browser is a horrid thing for the job it has to do.....and the essential database scan function has yet to work fully for me, which is pretty dumb for a system which is trying to establish itself as a universal format. I would use Kontakt a lot more if those aspects worked properly.

I just hope Kore can do two things - allow sync-to-tempo, which V-Stack does not, and run stand-alone without the hardware unit; for live use it's just another piece of gear to caryy, have cables for, set up, and come unplugged during the set... That's why I have presets, so I don't need more gear!

It seems to me that most of the problems I read here, about things not working properly, come from Logic users.
Why does anyone bother? Escpecially when you have wonderful alternatives like Sonar and Cubase and Nuendo?

The upgrade deal this year from Komplete 2 to 3 was really good.
You should check out Reaktor 5, it's a serious kit. Forget the rest, Reaktor will keep you busy until the white coats come for you

I forgot how bad a deal that was for some!
I luckily decided to forgo Komplete care and wait 12 months until the next update, which does work rather well. There's already too many options, so 12 months is really no wait.
Hindsight, and smart arses are a pain in the bum!

I use NI stuff all the time in Logic and it works extremely well, Nigel. It sounds like you have other problems with your system.
I'm confused. Is KORE just a s/w based host with a nice h/w interface or does it actually host the VSTs on the h/w as well - to reduce processing power on your host PC/MAC?
The first - it's a s/w-based host and then some with a very nice h/w controller that has an audio and MIDI interface built in. And it also works as a plug-in that hosts other plug-ins.
The controller lets you access synth parameters. Obviously it's set up for NI products out of the box, but it's an open system - other plugs and V.I.s can use it too.
