A friend of mine made as a joke this cover of a very famous song.
We can't use in any commercial way, it's original and copyrighted as you imagine: just listen for a while what the stradi can do in a pop funky mix!
What do you think?

That is outstanding!
It brings to mind the jazz violinists of the twenties and thirties including Stephane Grappelli, Joe Venuti and others. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
Thanks for posting it.

Hold on a minute . . . that's not a sampled violin, is it? I don't claim to have the best ears in the world, but if it is, it's darn good!
Cool version of the song, either way!

NICE!! There are a couple weak spots if one is being very critical but I would say that for at least 80% of this I could close my eyes and believe I was hearing a real violin. Some very cool licks going on in there!! The second solo especially sounds right on. All the slides/glisses sound very natural. The vibratos do too. Great job.

Lovely!
Cool new changes.
You should send that to Stevie!
I am sure he would love this version.
Whats next?
Superstitious on a harpsichord?

Wonderful Fabio. Shows how IMPORTANT the 'pitch bend' wheel is for playing this instrument.
Very nice. (love the double stops)

If this is what it takes to sound real, then I prefer it not to sound real. You did a great job Fabio, and yes it does sound "real", but why does something have to sound "real?" It just doesnt sound good to my ears. The techniques and technical performance is excellent! Especially the fast double stops. I guess we cannot make everyone happy, but my preference is to rather have it sound less real and in tune. Especially for an exposed part, Id prefer in tune. If you mixed with other instruments like an ensemble, then it could come in handy. This is very subjective as we all interpret things differently. I just couldnt enjoy this piece because of the tuning, but the piece itself you did fantastic!
Although it was not my cup of tea, I do want to say you did a great job with this. Would it be possible to get do another take in tune, so that we can compare? I think it will still sound real, but yet be sweeter sounding.
Thanks

It's a good point, and in all my post, I told that the matter of tuning is of course a personal opinion field.
This work has born in an accurate (pernickety?) research of the real player imitation: to let you imagine how accurate, it respect for instance the difference between the high register and the lower. When you move the finger on upper high positions, a very little different pressure produce an higher tuning difference (the duble for every octave, as Pythagora say). The upper positions are then less accurate in tuning than lower.
The aim has been to get the feeling (made also by the perception of the same imperfection, I say THE SAME, not the same amount of) of a real instrument played by human performer.
But yes, from a pure musical enjoyement, probably you'r right: we will try later a more tuned arrangement, just to let enjoy.
Sincerely thank you for the constructive approach to the critics. You did a good service to the forum!

From the aim in perception of a real instrument, I think you reached your goal with flying colors!

Remember this is a pop recording. They would have run the violin through Antares :p I think you have achieved realistic intonation 90% or 95% of the time here. It does go a bit overboard on occasion though. But you are really getting the hang of playing this instrument.

Yeah, but if it was a pop cover by a symphony superstar (Yo-Yo Ma?) it would have this vibe; all the post-production tricks on the backing tracks, but complete hand-off authenticity on the lead. (Now if only we could convince Cecilia Bartoli to stop this...!)

Rob Information about the Cello will be made available soon. The instrument sampled is a cello built by the great Italian cello maker Matteo Gofriller (18th century). Gary Garritan
