So when are you going to sample it? The new Styxx 5G all-flexitone library. 32 velocity layers! Miced from both sides of the beater in 7.1 surround...
Of course, once it is just one specific recorded articulation, it's no longer a Flexitone, ti's just a Monotone (or is that just one channel?)

What the heck is a flexatone? Some new weight machine with stretchy metal that builds muscle and music skill? :p :p
I finally got me a Flexatone! :D
Now, is that the little soprano flexatone, or the big contrabass one that takes two people to flex? :D

Depends on who you ask:

Although this one is spelled "Flextone"

Actually, it's the largest of the two sizes, small and large. Gee Wally ... ! I would like to ask Gary if he can do some morphing samples of this twangy thangy!:D

Come to think of it, a flexatone should be pretty simple to synthesize, no?
(Too bad I don't have a modular system nearby...)

Wow.
I've never known anyone who actually owned a Flexatone.
In fact, I thought there was only one in existence, and everybody just rented it when they needed it.
Some interesting history and sound samples over at WikiPedia, here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexatone).

Maessains Tarantula symphony uses Flexitone a lot! - and an ondes martenot...
I just got back from a BSO rehersal where they played an all Schoenberg program. I didn't know until today that he used a flexitone in his Variations for Orchestra. At least that was what the program notes said... Great concert, BTW.
Edit - I just looked at the Wikipeida article linked in David's poat and found it lists Schoenberg's Variations for Orchestra as a piece that uses the flexitone.

Yes, but if you don't happen to have a flexatone available,
Shoenberg felt it was equally suitable to just strangle a
few geese.

But you really meant a guitar amp - never even occurred to me... I hate it when a pun is punned back before I get to pun upun it... :D

Why not just buy a Theremin? (or an old tubed radio will do with a bit of tinkering!)
Just wondered, Styxx, when is the Concerto for Flexatone going to be posted?

Check out the demos (sound files). There is a distinct difference in timbre between the saw and the theremin. I can strongly say the same for the Flexatone which is harder to play with a bow than the saw and much higher in pitch.
