Or wait until Gary pulls a solo cello out of his ear. He's going to do that, you know.

There is also Kirk Hunter solo string that are cheaper, and you should know that most of it is included in KHSO Emerald;) .

Another vote for Kirk Hunter. The solo stuff (both in Emerald and the solo strings) are really great. Nice, close, gritty samples. The slides on the solo violins and cellos are really great as are the aggressive short bows.

KHSO Emerald - cannot go wrong. The strings and cello(s) are incredible sounding and will fit your bill to a "T".
At the price it's offered, you cannot possibly find a better orchestral collection of it's quality level for less.

Thanks to all for your respective recommendations. I probably would not have investigated the Kirk Hunter stuff, but will certainly give it a good listen.

I also recommend the Kirk Hunter Emerald library... The only other thing that will be better without spending a fortune is when Gary Garritan comes out with the solo cello...

I really appreciate the obvious time and thought put into Gary's libraries; and yes, I would snatch it up if available. I might even wait awhile if I new when it was to be released.

I don't think any of these sample libraries can do a decent job with solo 'cello. You could hire a real cellist (e.g., me) to record the parts for you.

How does the Kirk Hunter Emerald perform on gigastudio compared with Kontakt?

That's what I'd do (above). Unless you're mocking up for later production...

Thanks for the suggestion. I will make a note for further reference.
Right now, I'm looking for a really good mock-up instrument. I may relax and wait a couple of months and see if Garritan can fit the bill. To my ears, he has a knack for producing some incredibly inspirational instruments with the least amount of strain on the CPU and HPU (human processing unit), and deserves a fair listen before deciding.

Fitch it is a pro. She's played for one of my tunes before.
Go for it. The real thing almost never disappoints.
As for libraries to sketch with, I got the Kirk Hunter solo strings and I'm not disappointed at all. Nice solo strings across the board.
