View Full Version : OT: Update on my Father's Health

I wanted to take a second and make a post to thank everyone who has wished us well during this very difficult time. The emails and PM's have been of great comfort to myself and Dawn. For those of you who may not be aware, my Father suffered a heart attack. He is still in ICU but is doing well. He is no longer in any real danger.
Thank you again. NSS is more then just a forum. It can be another family at times.
Best to all,
Francis and Dawn Belardino

PS. I have the laptop with me so I can take care of our users while I am away ;)

That's all that matters - nothing else is important. Helath is all we really have that one needs to keep.
It is great to hear that your Father is improving and will make a full recovery.

Hey Francis
Somehow I've missed this altogether...
Thinking of you and your family in much the same way as you did with me a couple of years ago.

Oh My Frank  I'm so sorry to hear the news :( I'm very happy and relieved to know that the danger is over and that he'll be ok. :) Please know that your dad, you and your family are in my prayers. I've been through what you've been going through and it's not easy. Please take care, and if there's anything else that I can do to help, please let me know.
God bless you all,
Steph

There are so many events that happen that remind us there are more important things than music.
I'm happy to hear the update Frank and I hope your father continues to get better.
Best wishes,

Thank you for letting us know Frank. I trust he will be stronger very soon. Make sure and help him get his diet in order. That is so important.
Best regards Frank,

Hi again,
We just got back from the hospital. 2 hour drive. I printed out your comments and read it to my Father. He was smiling. Of course, he had to toss in, "I still don't understand what it is you do for a living" but ... LOL
Also, he has been downgraded from ICU and gets to go home this Saturday.
Once again, I know this is a very OT thread and I hope I did not bring anyone down. Thank you again for your kindness!!

Great to hear Frank!
Speaking for myself, hearing everything's ok with your dad, gives the day a decidedly better sheen.
However, you may be less than enthusiastic about returning back to work, when you see what Alan and Aaron have 'done' to the studio while you've been away.
Oh my..............

Well, I know I'd drive two hours to see *MY* dad in the hospital... :) Heck, if my dad were still around, I'd drive just about anywhere to see him...
I drive about two hours at least every other weekend to see my parents and it's not a strain at all- I can't imagine how I'd feel if I couldn't even make that effort and then it would up being too late.
Our studio is in an apartment behind the garage of my business partner's house. His dad called him everyday for almost ten years just to yak and shoot the bull before he got convinced we actually were working out there :p

Hi Frank,
Best wishes to you and your family.
When your father asks what you do, just tell him that you make your customers happy. He can be very proud of his son.

Hi Francis
I am glad to see that you dad is out of ICU and getting ready to go home. This is great news. Its amazing how priority changes when something like this happens in the family. Music all of a sudden takes a backseat and does not seem all that important, as least till everything gets back to normal. I've known many people who've had heart attacks, and went though the bypass and are doing really well now. I really believe everything will work out just fine. Hang in there guy and take good care of your dad

I'd just like to say that I've been around the 'net for a long time, and I've seen web sites, email lists and newsgroups come and go, flame wars that seemed like they would never end, trolls invading lists, feuds and other things that I'd rather not remember, but every one of those situations has passed, and I'd like to think that I'm better for having survived and I believe the same potential exists for all parties involved...
I think it's really nice when we all remember that we're human here and we can reach out for, and receive, support from our fellow human beings when we're in need, no matter what the venue.
It's obvious to me that there are many people who care for you, Francis. I wish you and your father and your family and business all the best. May you enjoy many more years...

Thanks everyone for your show of support within this OT thread.

I wish your father good health. I know all too well how it feels to be the son of a heart attack patient. My father (who was 77) had a heart attack last April. They did an angioplasty and inserted 2 stints in the 2 blocked arteries. He survived the ordeal and is now doing incredibly well. Good to know your father is now home. Modern medicine can do a lot of things now days that it could not do before for heart attack patients.
They put my dad on a medical monitored exercise program 3 days a week (with doctors and everything checking his heart function through the workout). After a year of this, my dad has lost a bit of weight and says he has never felt better.

Thank you Brian for sharing that. He needs to take this scare as a serious message and take care of himself. Your story gives us hope. I really do appreciate you letting us all know.

That is exactly how my dad saw the experience...as a wake up call to take better care of himself. Now on days when he does not go to his "hospital workouts"...he walks in the evenings. Another thing that he had to change was his diet. Initially...I helped him along with that by going to Costco and buying a bunch of their prepared salmon fillets. I told him with a hug, "dad...you are going to start eating better too. And you better get use to Salmon." :)

Is/was he a smoker?
Brian W. Ralston
03-11-2006, 07:05 PM
Is/was he a smoker?
No he was not a smoker...or a drinker. Which is also another reason why it caught us all by surprise. His health was generally pretty good up to that point with a slightly elevated cholesterol level that was already being treated.
So...yeah...quitting smoking is pretty much a must after something like that...which is incredibly hard to do. And when people quit...they usually turn to food or some other oral distraction. So that makes it equally as hard when one needs to usually change their diet as well. But it is all achievable with the support of family and friends.
Is/Was your father a smoker?
I have uncles and aunts who were smokers who also suffered from hearts attacks in their later years and successfully quit smoking afterwards. I have one cousin who was a smoker for some 30 years and had to quit after she was diagnosed with diabetes. She quit cold turkey successfully. I think the shock of the diagnosis helped motivate her through the nicotine addiction "pains".
Bela D Media

Yes he is a smoker, He also retired from music (his full time job) too early and he spends his time with not much to do. Boredom equates to more smoking. He was told that he must quit. It will be hard but there are many things out there now to help.

Francis,
Why not have your father help you around the office. Have him help with shipping and what not. Nothing hard to do, but gives one purpose.

Frances,
I am very happy to hear your father is doing better. My Dad was terminallly ill a few years ago and facing the tragic illness of a parent is one of the most difficult things a person can face.
It is regretful that some vindictive people have chosen to kick you and criticize you while you were in a vulnerable position. And to use your misfortune and grief for their own agendas was unkind.
Rest assured you have many friends that are here for you. When you are a community you look out for each other. It's a good and healthy thing that we can share successes, disappointments, joy and grief with each other.
All the best to you and your family.

I'm so glad your father is getting to go home so early- that's really great.
Frances,
I wish your father a speedy recovery. Diabetes is the killer in my family. My uncle passed away from it at 50. My dad was diagnosed with it at 60 and I at 40 so I have to fight it every day but I guess it could be worse.
Cheers,
JS

Best wishes to your dad for a speedy return to good health, Frank. My dad is 82 and while he is in terrific health we had a couple of scares where it looked like something serious was perhaps wrong and thank God turned out no to be. At those times everything else I was worried about went to the back burner.

Everyone has been so kind about this and I am running out of 'thank you' (s)
I apologize if there are some who wish to question my professionalism for creating this thread to say "Thank you and update" after I received so many PMs about my father but, I believe they would be the minority. Those who wish to poke fun of this thread... well, I won't say what I think about them.
Once again, it means a great deal to me to see so many wishing others good will. Its not always just about music and samples.
