I have a dualcore 2.0 4.6gb Ram G5. Logic 7.2 I can get 2 multis of it and my system craps out. After researching it seems that GPO and macs get poor performance. My machine should eat up 8 multis fully loaded. Im tired of troubleshooting. I dont have the time.
Whats another cost effective option that runs great on macs and Logic. I was happy with the quality and price of GPO but its performance on my rig was ridiculous.
thanks.

Im interested in buying a peecee and running gpo and potentially giga hooked up to my mac and logic but wanna see if there is a quick alternate/cheaper option.

You could upgrade to kontack2($269 or $215 depends where you buy it) + Kirk Hunter Emerald also know as KHSO Emerald($250 Kontack format) you get 25 GB with KHSO.
Here is a link for the best Kontack deal: see Prince of music post....

locash - Something isn't right with that config...
What Multis are loaded? Have you checked the Performance Monitor or Activity Monitor to see what is chewing up cycles?
I get better performance than that from GPO and Logic 7.1 on a Dual 1.8Ghz.
I never use Multi's though - just run with individual instruments - i.e. one instance of the player for each instrument. Easier to do things that way in my opinion.

seriously now..i'd run EXS24 the sampler in logic .. and mayeb vsl opus if you're on a budget ..
i run massive orchestral set ups using the pro ed and exs24 and the freeze function..
i have a dual 2 gig g5 with 4.5 gigram
go with exs24 it's built into logic
there must be other exs24 libs out there too

Absolutely the way to go if you are in Logic.

garritan personal orchestra runs using the kontakt player by NI. Which i believe is the culprit of hogging my cpu. my cpu meter hits the roof and conks out 8 seconds in.
exs24 is great but cant run gpo with it.
Im running 2 multis with 8 instruments in each. Usually much better performance that way....or so i thought.

I have a template on my computer (dual 2 ghz G5, 2.5 gigs ram) that has 8 GPO Kontakt Players (most of them fully loaded and all bussed into an instance of sound designer) and it runs with no problems for me. Are you sure it's the Kontakt Player that's eating up yoru CPU?

locash - First, make sure that you're running the latest version of the player. There have been several updates. Second - make sure that in your Energy Saver preferences your processor speed is set to 'Highest'.
I run multiple instances of Kompakt players (GPO, RA, Stormdrum) and Kontakt 2, and never have CPU issues. I always max out disk and RAM before CPU. The 'myth' of multis being more efficient than individual instances has been debunked here on the Garritan forums. All you lose is a small amount of RAM each time really. And when you run individiual instances, you get the benefit of mixing each track by itself and freezing it if needed.
The experience you're having isn't normal...but buying a different app isn't going to fix the problem. Double and triple check all your apps to ensure they're current, try a re-install, etc. And use Activity Monitor to find out what is really chewing through your CPU. Perhaps it is Logic 7.2 itself that is the problem - I'm still on 7.1.1 because, well...7.2 doesn't really have anything significant that benefits non MacIntel folks, IMHO.

Go into your system preferences.... then click on 'Energy Saver'... Then click on 'Options'. Then change your processor performance from 'Automatic' to 'Higest'.

This is just a guess....
Maybe its a dual core CPU issue.
I heard that Dual core isn`t the same as Multiprocessors.
And I heard that Dual core users have some CPU spikes.
Or maybe thats just with Kontakt2. I`m not sure.
