Hey - some really nice stuff in there for film/post. The superimposition of streamers, flutters and punches is a nice add. Some of their other stuff looks like they've taken a few pages out of other apps and restored some features that I knew and loved back in the pre-digital version of Performer. Overall it looks like a really nice environment. It will be interesting to see/hear how their new synth plugins work out, too.

$195 !!?!?!?!
To just move from 4.6 to 5.0? And no intel mac support !?!
Suddenly Apple/logic's $20 upgrades look really reasonable.

Don't worry! Mac Intel support is already available for 4.5, if it's not available for version 5 yet, I'm sure it will be shortlly!

Looks nice, I wish they had updated some of the effects too.

This is making my $1000+ Logic investment seem stupid. Apple needs to get on the ball and catch up with DP in regards to workflow type features.

Not true. The Universal Binary version of DP5, scheduled later this quarter, will be the first to support MacIntel machines.

If you buy it at a distributor over here the upgrade will cost over $300,
so you look lucky to me :p
BTW, I wonder why there are no system requirments posted.
I have a feeling that this thing is going to be really heavy.
Well DP has been a heavy sequencer compared to
others, like Logic. Especially when you use virtual instruments.
So I`m worried if its more efficient then DP4 or
more heavier then DP4.
To guess this, I really need to see the system requirments.

It isn't Universal yet, even though reports are it will work, it isn't optimized. This is the advantage of Logic, as well as having distributed processing, a feature that makes me think of switching from DP.
But since I already have PTle, and just got Ableton Live, then need to upgrade Korg's Legacy collection, upgrade PT with the Music production toolkit, upgrade vst-rtas adapter, and also upgrade Sibelius, upgrade Kontakt when 2.1 comes out, just upgraded to Gigastudio 3 and Stylusrmx, need to upgrade Ivory, and then now pay the $200 to upgrade to DP5, the last thing I need is to buy another program like Logic that will need upgrading.

Intel processor support has been announced by MOTU for the end of this quarter and it will be a free update to 5.0. So my guess is the higher than usual upgrade cost for version 5 is because you are paying for that work here...it is just not ready for release yet.

I bet not.
Any takers on a gentlemens bet that DP5 for intel will be a paid upgrade?
I may be moaning about $195 upgrade but DP is my favorite DAW.
Logic 7.2 is on my computer only for certain session compatibility.
DP rules.
I just hate paying for soft synths that I will never use.
I'll catch up at 5.1.2

Care to elaborate? I just curious as to what specifically makes you feel this way.

Okay, They are MacIntel (http://www.motu.com/newsitems/atnewsitem.2006-01-10.6806188708) drivers for Motu firewire and USB midi devices that are ready for download now. Point is, Motu has already accomplished more than adobe. :D

Not that besting adobe is anything to brag about!
But it's true that Motu seems far more on this upgrade cycle than they were going from OS9 to X. (bad year +)
I'm rooting for motu in a big way.
If they really optimize DP for intel and come out with a killer stable version that plays well with VI's ...... PT may leave my hard drive. (and the bi-annual digi reaming will finally end - vasaline no longer required with Pro Tools).
Quad Core Power Mac Intel and DP 5 .........:D :D
I am also rooting for MOTU in a big way! I love the program and I use Logic and DP. DP's workflow is so much easier (IMO) and they are right in my back yard:rolleyes:
Peace

I see a real weakness in the audio workflow in Logic. In my line of work I really suffer from Logic not having convenient simple and easy Beat Detective type functions. A graphic tuning mode would be awesome. Destructive application of AU's to regions needs to be enabled. Pro Tools style playlists and Tab to Transient would be so helpful.
I love Logic, but I also see room for improvement. I don't need Garageband features, enough with consumer level stuff already.

Logic has terrible workflow, but runs really fast and handles many many tracks.
DP is much more user friendly, but slow, take up too much resource, and in the past few years, they are becoming a marketing firm instead of a software development company....
Cubase runs fast, work on PC, and workflow is great. SX rules.... (yeah, no 192).

interesting statement

It only runs fast ob PCs - so this can be considered as it does not run fast at all.
besides that there are lot of things missing - multiple tempo curves, AU support, side chain support (I mean real side-chainig of course), etc.
The interface feels fat und clumpsy, where as it is elegant in DP and Logic.
Audio and MIDI editing and retrospective recording is great though. And with Cuase you are always a second rated customer or worse, which is not the case for Logic Pro or DP users.
