Here is the picture: (I drew it myself):p . If you don’t like the music – free desktop wallpaper.:D

The picture represents connections being made in the brain – an idea, a thought, an emotion, a memory, a conclusion, and so on. In the distance, you see one that has just happened (looks like a star) and in the foreground a connection that is about to happen. And look at all those spirals!:D

Based upon this picture? I'm waiting for the music you wrote for Mona Lisa or a 10 minutes action scene. :D

Really like it!

His huge amount of libraries? Well, nothing my ol' computers could deal with. :D

His huge amount of libraries? Well, nothing my computers could ever handle. :D

Cool! I heard a dash of Elton John's Funeral For A Friend (I think that's the title) and (of course) a touch of Rush.

LMFAO!!!
Still listening.
Wait maybe he's serious.

Oh.

wait. Sorry.

OK. Still LMAO. Maybe just LOL... or L.....?

Man I never know with you guys. Is this over the top? Or just really "From the heart?" I mean, I can hear that it's sounds great "right out of the box"* but is it like, deep? or what?? Why do I have a strong urge to run to Long John Silvers?

*Apparently lots of boxes. That reminds me of a joke about a girl who might lose her virginity, but she'll never lose... Oh hell I forget. Goddam synaptic spirals... if someone would just draw me a picture

I really enjoyed it, so much that I've miss 24's beginning :D . I've also sense just a little Rush influence, drums maybe...It also reminded me at time of V~~~~~~~e(I love his music). Impressive libs...jslap my favorite...got to go watch 24...Thanks for sharing, I'll keep that one...

Most Excellent! :D

Brian 2112: The Jon Anderson of southern Texas!
Ern: thank you! I thought of you during the last bit. I was going to add a bell tree but that would be a dead givaway.:)

If your brain was damaged, I would like that kind of deteriorated mind!!!

Ha! It sure comes in handy on Thursdays!:D Thanks Roberto! You are very gifted composer and I am so pleased that you like it.

Kai - Thank you! I think part of it would fit in the Da Vinci Code Movie - but those Hollywood guys aren't cool enough for me.:D

Jeffn1 - thanks as always:)

Sinkd -

Is this over the top?

Yes.:D

I mean, I can hear that it's sounds great "right out of the box"* but is it like, deep? or what??

Hehe as deep or as shallow as one wants.

Why do I have a strong urge to run to Long John Silvers?
I see it has had the desired effect.:D

Thanks Sinkd

Geronimo - Sorry I made you miss your episode, but I'm glad you like it.

Thanks again all!

Brian, This is like a trip down memory lane!

Hints of ELO, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Mike Oldfield. etc.....
The drums stand out too, for one reason. They KEEP TIME, and are PLEASANT to listen to, without being OVERPOWERING, and OTT, a welcome change from much of today's fare.

I'm with AWB on this one though, given your proud heritage.
Where's the highland warpipes?

Most enjoyable my friend,

Alex.

(I'm off to dig out the old recordings. Sigh. They were the days....:p)

Wow Brian. Long live Prog rock. Are you running all those plugs on one computer? Just curious. Great job. I do agree that there is a lack of high end energy in the mix. Even a push in the 18k range should help. I really want to know how many PCs you are running to run that many plugs. I've heard that SC is a hog. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome me friend! Cool indeed. :) I can picture a little bit of Jean-luc Ponte flavor happening, yes?

There are times when I listen to the stuff on northernsounds.com that I almost give up hope. :(

Brian, this is incredibly interesting and enjoyable. I admit lots of envy - someday, maybe, perhaps, I'll be able to come up with something even CLOSE to this enjoyable...

Hey Man! Don't give up hope! Just hang out with this crazy bunch long enough and you'll learn all kinds of neat stuff. Thanks for the kind words, but I am sure that you will post things much better than this:) . I am glad you enjoyed it.

Ern and Eric, I put up a new link that is re-mastered with more high end (the way I actually listen to it here at home). After "Vapor Trails" I am so afraid of clipping that I master everything flat so people can EQ to taste.:D

AWP and Alex, No kidding, I was going to add pipes, but nothing is in Bb - pipes sound fake if not in the right key - it was still a close call though!:D

This was done on one computer using Sonar 5.2 Producer Edition and Kontakt 2 (that helps reduce the resource hogs). I had sub-projects which I mixed in as time went along - thank god for "freeze"! I have 2 identical PCs P4 EE 3.2 GHz with 2 gigs SDRAM and over a terrabyte of HD each. But wife had her finals this week so I had to use just one computer.:D

Hey Styxx! Thanks for listening ol' buddy!:)

EDIT: Voice -over -WIFE is saying:"New Connection established-
Universal peace and enlightenment

raised to the power, 1.6180339....

(1729 is the lowest number that can be cubed in two ways) and 1.618... well, see my hint.;)

quite impressing mix! (...impressing tools BTW...)

Your mind is reverberating a rocking side of the music, in a symphonic dimension...hummm...chathedral is a good description.:)

Fabio, DPDan, Sean,

Thank you so much for the kind words. I am so thrilled that you like this. There is nothing like praise (or constructive criticism, for that matter), from colleagues whom I admire and respect so much.
And that goes for everyone else too!
Thanks again so much!
(I’m posting this early in the morning because I hate bumping my own demos)

…2112:o

P.S. Hey Hannifin, do the math – result is exactly the number of Fritos I ate while working on this and also the number of things I have left to do this week! – Coincidence? I don’t think so!

One question: what did you use for rythm/lead guitar in the part which
starts at about 2:30 min?

The clean bit at 2:30 is the Sonic Implants Fender Telecaster (single notes) - got it as a download purchase on their site. In the background (the distorted bit) is Bela D's Lyrical Distortion 1+2 and so is the lead at about 2:49 and later as well.:)

2112, That's awesome. The makers of those instruments need to use this as a demo and send you commissions on the sales. This one I need to put on a disc and go for a drive and give it the driving test with the Bose cranked way up. And those vocals were awesome as well.

Brian, long time lurker, first time poster! I just had to say that your song is amazing. Your song is an inspiration to make the best music I can.

I too hear the Rush influence, especially in the vocal samples. Reminds me of "we have assumed control" from.... well you know.

Ok, off to listen again. :)

Hi 2112!
FYI: I have just replaced my email notification sound with your Grand Cathedral HM2 mp3. Listened to the piece some 15 times now and it keeps getting better every time I hear it...
This is one of the best clips I listened to for a long long time. Thanx for sharing it. When can we hear the rest....:p

Mr. Post, thank you so much! Your “Post Organ” Library sure was the ticket for me in this tune – especially the voice over part - the connection established climax and at the end. I hope you chopped the tune a little or you have a 6:39 email notification!:D Wow! I am truly honored by your comments. Thank you!:o
The rest? by the time I was done I had to set my ASIO buffers to over 2,000 or it wouldn't play back...LOL!!!:D I think I'm done....hehehe

Awesome, absolutely awesome! The reason why I did not write a response earlier is that I keep listening to this piece obsessively.... :D

Amazing work! I can't get that wonderfully simple riff out of my head, even in the night. This thing has hit potential!

Keep it up please!

Hi Brian,

I listened to this a week ago - was writing some "original" music last night and thought, where have I heard this melody/chord combo before? I had stolen your main theme. I went back and changed things. I was able to keep the same first two chords but used a different top melody. Saved the new cubase file name as not_brian_05_19_2006.

Nice work,
Joanne

DUDE!!!!

This is huge- one of the best things I've heard in ages. Man, I'm glad I came back and had a look around. That clean strat sounds amazing- very Alex :D :D I love all the little production ear candy you've added. Can I give a thought- for me the ride cymbal is too loud and I'd love to hear the drums even MORE compressed, like a Tood Rundgren Wizard.True Star thing, really floating in on the ether. That's just personal taste- you've done great on this. (Sweet nod to Van-jell-is at the end- what synth was that??) Great!!

...I love all the little production ear candy you've added.
That's to make up for the fact that my composing sucks.:D

what synth was that??)

I hate when that happens! It's like "Pass Intercepted!" I know that you would have done better with this melody.

Hehe I like it! Catchy hook!:D
BTW Joanne thats the SI Fender Telecaster in there that we were talking about earlier.

Thanks everyone so much for listening/commenting. Now I hope this thread will sink (I'm sure everyone is sick of it by now...lol):p

Go listen to Fred's demo - It Rocks!
