To all users of Kontakt-Player librarys like Peter Siedlaczeks String Essentials or Chris Hein - Horns:
Do you have problem loading the instruments from those librarys into the newest Kontakt 2.1.1?
I get different reports from users. some say it works fine, some say K2 crashes.
I try to find out the reason.

thanks,

Chris Hein

well, i have GPO , and it crashes K2 randomly, when i hit a key, it goes into cpu overload. something to do with looping and dfd i assumed, but i have no clue really.
but then again, half of my other sound libs also crashes K2 so....:D
it works much better in older kontakt 2 versions.
dont know if that helps?.

Chris,

I bought Kontakt 2 at Sam Ash a while ago (over a year) and, at the time, read many horror stories about it crashing and giving major headaches after the latest update, so I never updated it.

Honestly, it works great - but that's because I refuse to update it. It may lack some bug fixes and features, but the horror stories keep coming and my K2 works great with Emerald, Monzter Guitars, EWQLSO, StormDrums, The Emperor, etc.

I will probably never update it. Funny thing is, I update almost all my software and am aware of the importance of doing so. However, one cannot ignore how unhappy and unpleasant people have become over the NI updates.

I also find their website repressive and insulting. They never seem to answer anyone's questions and seem to not care about their customers at all.

I just stay away.

Thanks for your answers,

Yes, its a shame, every version fixes some bugs and includes some new.
But I know 2.1.1 is not the last version. I'm shure new versions will come very soon.
And the good thing is, the guys at NI listen to bug reports.
They have a lot of beta testers, but if you find a bug, why not post it here or send me a pm,
I can forward it to the programmer in germany.

Some of the bugs I discovered only appear with big instruments.
I can imagine, a programmer does not realize those things because
he makes his tests only with small instruments.
An example: when you drag one sample in the editor, everything is fine.
When you drag more than three samples on one key,
not all velocities are covered and the order of samples 1,2,3 has changed to 3,2,1.
This has been fixed, two weeks after I told them.

So, please tell me if you find any bug with any library that is reproducable.

thanks again,

Chris Hein

Mike,
there is an elegant way to update without a risk.
(At least on a Mac, I don't know how this works on PC)
Simply remane the application file and do the update.
If the update-installer does not find the program-file with
its correct name, it installs a second version.
Updating this way, you can choose the version you want to work with.
If you don't rename, the old version is gone.

Some showstoppers are fixed in 2.1.1 , some new are build in.
So, it really depends on the library at the moment wich version works best.
I still use some librarys in K1.5.3.

Hope this helps,

Chris,

That will not work. Windows requires, in many and most cases, library files to be over written. .dll and .ocx files are library files that the main executeable calls to for certain functions, and those are added, taken away or altered in some way.

Just copying the program is sometimes done, but I think Kontakt 2 is too massive for that.

Either way, that does not alter the fact that every time they come out with new fixes, the new bugs are worse than the fixes from the bugs before.

It works for me as is.

Sorry, I simply forgot the word DUBLICATE and rename...
This is an official advice directly from NI to keep the old version.

Yes, thats the impression one could get from various posts, but kontakt is getting better and better.
Its just that the shouting is louder for bugs than for new features or fixes.

Thats fine, but newer scripts won't run one K2.0
so, one day you may want to update, and the above way is my suggestion.
I think thats works with every update of any program.

You must always rebuild the database whenever you upgrade Kontakt otherwise the player will search the entire sample drive for all relevant samples the first timethat particular sample instrument is chosen.
