I used to have several MP3s here of the bells over at The Kiski School. They ring those bells every hour and it gets annoying, so I decided to record them and annoy people with them. Unfortunately, I used a crappy tape recorder so there is too much noise to hear a clean bell from it.

Here is something that might tide you over until you find the real deal:

http://www.tweakbench.com/instruments.php?id=19

The plug-in is called Carillon and is described as a "a physically modelled bell and chime synthesizer."

My previous searches were fruitless, so when I needed to use Church bells, I used GPO Tubular bells, with a bit of eq and processing.

Gap in the market? Midi controller with ropes anyone?

Hm, seems I used some excellent samples for The Sound of Music a few years ago. Since I never toss any of my work away I should have them on file. I shall check sir and let you know ASAP.

Here are some. They're not totally in tune, but I like them. Click on the "beiaardsamples.zip" to download them.

Michel Post has a church bell package in Giga format. You can download it here (http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/736712) for $10.

His website (http://www.postpiano.com/products/prod_subCategory.php?subCat=Church+Bells) also lists it in other formats, but I don't see them on the download site.

Any idea why my Tubular Bells do not respond to score notations? They have only one volume. I can't make them louder or softer.

Perhaps you are trying to use CC1 (modwheel values) to control them? Tubular bells operate on velocity values. The dynamic markings might be set to send modwheel values instead of velocities.

Post Musical Instruments also has a Carillion sample. It sounds great....but I had to go through and manually edit about 25 of the samples in Sound Forge to remove weird clicks/pops/snaps. They looked like some kind of digital/processing distortions....most less than 10 samples long, but VERY loud. I cleaned them up in SF and the Carillion sounds great now. This was rather a surprise for a commercial library, especially since the PMI Bosendorfer 290 sounds FABULOUS. I almost wonder if this is download issue....
