I'm writing orchestral pieces with usually between 15 and 20 instruments with Kompact through Nuendo 3.1.
It all sounds nice to me through my Mackie HR824's without compression.

So I was wondering if there is a 'rule of thumb' for adding a bit across the mix for orchestral stuff.

Is it down to personal taste?

I love composing but I'm a real dunce when it comes to mastering

here (http://sonetbruit.com/downloads/Mein%20Toot.mp3)
is a link to and example of my stuff.

Can you help?

Always open to criticism

Jim

Gotta say I liked that Jim. I liked it right up to the point when some God awful string type patch appeared and it sounded like you were playing chords on a keyboard. But after that - I liked it again.

The sound in general is good to me through these headphones - I wouldn't get too worried about what an orchestral sound is supposed to sound like when using samples. Pretty good sound all in all.

Cheers paul,
I have not had the nerve to bare all on this forum before as the quality is so high.
I shall address the strings and get god out of the equation.
